The very definition of a hero. Thank you Maj. Winters for the example you were and will continue to be! Heaven is blessed to have you back. I can only imagine the kind of reunion there was when he passed. Soldiers, friends, and family waiting with open arms!
Wow great peice! Major Winters had a huge impact on me. Im glad I found out about him while I'm still young. I've read all his books including Ambrose's "Band of Brothers" He is my role model and has changed the way I look at life. Being a wild guitarist it baffles people around me that I dont drink, smoke,& remain humble & down to earth. It's all because of Major Winters. Character,Competence, and lead from the front is Major Winters motto in a nut shell. And that's what I always say to myself.
He truly is the real Captain America! And every day, when the big problems and the small problems arise, I always just remember, "Hang Tough!" Thank you for changing the world Maj WInters.
i only hope that i can be half the man he was, is, and forever will be. in my family you will never die, i will see to it that my children know your name and your story. sir, thank you for the opportunity to hang tough.
its sad to think that only a few men from the greatest generation are still alive. If your grandfather or great grandfather served in WW2 and you hate his war stories, stop and listen. They arent just stories to them, they were there, they watched their friends die. They want you t no how fortunate you are to have your freedoms and not have to experience what they had to.
R.I.P. Maj. Winters, you will be missed... I want to become an officer in the United States Army in a couple of years, and although I know I will never be as great as you, I will always aspire to try to be like you, and I will do my best everyday
My eyes are wet now that I know this man died. The true heroism is about being human in an un-human circumstances like the WW2. We won't see this kind of men anymore. Hooah for all who fought in what they belieaved. R.I.P Mr. Winters!
I've read book "Band of brothers", and I'm impressed about heroism of Mr Winters. I can't express what I exactly feeling, because my English is poor, but Mr Winters was really hero. Not only American hero, but the world hero.
@rafalus87 He was batman. Anyways if u haven't watched the HBO show "Band of brothers" then u really should. It's about the 101 airborn and mr.winters and his squad. Best show i've ever watched. 9.6/10 on imdb.
Major Dick Winters was always a humble and gentle person - even during the most terrifying circumstances, he stayed humane. He was one of the finest soldiers and greatest leaders in military history. When i learned of his death following his year-long struggle against Parkinson's disease, i got teary-eyed. We all have an obligation towards this man to remember him for what he has done for all freedom-loving people in the world. R.I.P. Major Winters - you will never be forgotten. From Germany...
@Hellpig ..Now I know you are truly a stupid, hate filled bastard.. How can you spoil this special tribute to a great man by spreading hate.. same thing Major Dick Winters fought against.. Please bastard do not get on here again, go to your racist site to post.. IDIOT..
Ive read the book, been to bastogne, and seen the series....and can honestly say, that his leadership is incredibly inspiring to me...something I will always take with me wherever I go. Cannot imagine being put under that much pressure and coming out alive every time being at the front, leading from the front. Its the greatest story of heroism ive ever heard of.
I didnt even know he died until today, I am very saddened, I always wanted to meet him in person, and now I will never have tht chance
To all of those who joined and fought withe the intention of making life better for others........from the dawn of time untill the end of time......past, present, future.......no one mentioned no one forgotten!
America and the world has lost a idol of a man who fights not for oil, minerals or over relegion, he faught for his country in it's time of need, showing the true meaning of a American. I hope god is proud of what you did Major, R.I.P.
As a German i have to say that this makes me very emotional. Seeing a man who became nearly 93 years old and who fought for freedom and peace in Europe and Germany. The people who fought in WW2 know what it does mean to live in times of war. They gave their lifes so that we can live in peaceful times. We should keep his saying in our minds.
From a big fan of Band of Brothers. Band of Brothers made me open my eyes clearly and to understand what you guys went through, you are clearly a company of heroes!
By looking at the films over and over again, you get a different understanding.
