I pass this hillside on my daily commute to San Francisco. It is a silent, eerie, and powerful image. Unfortunately, as of this date (9/23/2009), the total number of dead is 5,166, with no immediate end in sight.
I feel that this depicts the harsh realities of war and hits you on a personal level when you see the over 4,000 crosses on the hillside representing fallen Americans of the "war". We as Americans are fortunate enough to be fighting a war oversees and not on our own soil, where we only see what the mainstream press allows us to and not the true devastation that is occurring every day in Iraq. The whole purpose of this is for people to be aware of the severity of the situation.
Thank you for doing this. I am saddened every time I drive by, but reminded of those men and women who have given their lives for us. For that I am forever grateful. Thank you!
I am proud of my participation in the Crosses of Lafayette, but I am saddened there remains even now, with the vast majority of Americans aware that the war in Iraq was propagated thru the deception and lies of the Bush administration, those that see the crosses as anti-American, anti-troops. We grieve along with the family & friends of these dead Americans and want an end to the killing. Can you not look at this hillside and feel the sorrow - and the shame?
I wasn't sure how to act. I am not a proponent nor am I an opponent of the war. Sometimes I wonder why we went, but my ultimate thoughts are with the troops. If they believe they need to be there, and they believe they are doing right by being there, then that's what I support. When the troops think their work is done, then bring them home. If this memorial is only for them and not for the politics, then I think it's a good thing. Remember, those soldiers died so you could do this...
WMD's were found!!!! They were the Words of Mass Deception the Zionist neo-cons defrauded America and the world with. Nobody gained from these lies but Israel, the Rothchild bankers, the oil companies and the defense contractors. They should thank these soldiers for the sacrifice they made to them. The average American only got higher gas prices and crashed economy out of this war crime that Bush and the neo-cons started.
The guy should have first put up a cross for everyone killed on 911. He doesn't want to honor the fallen. He wants to use the sacrifices of brave soldiers for his personal antiwar agenda. The families of the fallen find comfort in his words saying they gave their lives in vain. He brings no honor upon himself for doing this.
So this guys isnt honoring the fallen...he's just making a political statement because he's a pacifist. The Iraq war had been the lowest casuality rate war in history. We've been in Iraq for what...3 or 4 years now and the death toll according to this video is 4200 approx. Where in WWII 18,000 died in one campaign against the Japanese. Thank God these bleeding hearts didnt have a venue back then or we would have lost the war.
How many soldiers injured? How many lives and families ruined? How many innocent Iraqi lives lost and ruined?
I think it's possible to both protest a war (that was a mistake) AND honor the fallen. And someone that protests a war that was started based on lies isn't necessarily a pacifist. Thank God war mongers didn't get their way during the cold war...
very good I am not 100% on it but the more i watched the better it got.
some people don't like to re-live, be reminded, want their love one's death to be used for political motives, or feel its any of the public's business that their son or loved one has passed away.
Speak to one of the soldiers who served in Iraq. I do, every day, and THEY know. They also understand the risks, yet they keep signing on for extended tours of duty. That, alone, should tell you something. And, before you ask, yes... I've lost both friends and family in combat. The unfortunate fact is, too few people understand that if you're not willing to die for democracy (ours or others'), then democracy isn't important.
Why would someone threaten and vandalize such a worthy cause as theirs. I really don't understand how someone could be so mean. At any rate, I want to say very good video to it's creator and good luck on the Project Report contest. :) -David
Mankind is often, much less than kind, testing ones compassion and ability to open their heart, though i*find taking comfort in the reality that...
From the death throes of the past, shine forth the brilliant rays of the future, as those who cling to outdated doctrine and cultural obscurity are trapped beneath the burden of their own ignorance and neglect of righteous change, opening the way for truth to radiate forward.
..is of great importance to maintain ones clarity.
Thank you for reminding us that each number represents a human being. Work for peace.

I have heard this before...that the troops are in Iraq fighting for our freedoms. Do you really believe this?
