I drove through an ice storm alone as a young teen in Ohio to see this movie, which wasn't very well promoted, and I sat alone and was just amazed. Not for all tastes, "Day of the Locust" is a dark, disturbing, nightmarish look at 1930 Hollywood's underside. I discovered this movie last year and it got under my skin, big time.

The book is so damn good it goes without saying, but this is actually one of the better translations of literature-into-film that I've seen. But yeah, in the book: Adore (the kid) is forced into his perverse clothing and performances by his mother. He doesn't deserve to get stomped to death.

I 've actually only seen this scene, caught this part once while flipping through channels when I was much younger. It was really disturbing. It appears that Homer is mentally disturbed at this point, and not only was the kid annoying, but once the kid busted the unstable looking timebomb Homer in the head, he lost it.
