  • we have to sing this in our chourus

  • When the navy is docked who's still out there doing there job. SEMPER PARARUS

  • Absolutely the best arrangement of this march I have ever heard!

  • So here's the coast guard marching song, we sing on land or sea, through surf and storm and howling gale, high shall our purpose be! SEMPER PARATUS IS OUR GUIDE!!!! Our fame, our glory too! To fight to save or fight to die. Aye Coast Guard we are for you!

  • Veteran, US COAST GUARD, 1991-1995 USCGC LAUREL (WLB-291)

  • this is my schools fight song

  • Here we go again, this march is NOT by Sousa, it is by Francis Van Boskirk, USCG. The OP has no business claiming any knowledge of American military music.

  • I love this song! Gets me pumped for work every time I listen to it!

  • My Dad is in the Coast Guard.. he is stationed 790 miles away from me. Miss you Daddy! ♥My Hero

  • @MissOrcaLover I live in Holland so I'm many more miles away, but even so, I salute your dad! Semper Paratus!

  • John Phillip Sousa DID NOT write this march. Captain Francis Saltus Van Boserick, U. S. Coast Guard wrote the songs and the music.

  • @Willredd94 The Coast Guard is in the Department Of Homeland Security where it belongs. It can't be part of the DOD because of the Posse Comitatus Act which prevents DOD military services from performing civilian law enforcement under most circumstances. One of the CG's primary missions is Maritime Law Enforcement on the water.

  • I'm going thru basic training this summer! IM PUMPED!

  • why is the coast guard not in the Dept of Defense, it makes a lot of idiots forget about them. I say transfer them from the Dept of Homeland Security and send them to the DoD.

  • @Willredd94 exactly and USCG defends the country from intruders.

  • @Willredd94 They've never been DoD. The Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Lifesaving Service to create the Coast Guard. They've been under the Department of Transportation and also with the Treasury, but never DoD. They have been merged with the Navy several times during wartime, but have always maintained a distinctive flair.

  • @Willredd94 ever heard of the "posse commitatus act"?? the DOD CAN NOT perform civillian law enforcement according to the constitution... THAT is why the CG is not DOD... and btw, I did my time, and all of you who can't take a joke, well, ya'll know the saying...

  • Anyone have a good quality stereo version of the CGMarchingSong I can download? v1rotate61@yahoo.com In turn, I have some great renditions of AnchorsAweigh, Caissons, Zoomeys, and Marines.

  • Still my favorite of all the military anthems.

  • I know I would want to see those white and orange trim ships come racing to my rescue. They've got to be the best Coast Guard in the world and the brightest colored too. I've see the Italians and they use Army Green in their Coast Guard it would appear the same for the Swedes too.

Plus the US Coast Guard motto is, 'To go out, knowing there might be no return.'

  • @TheNaughtiusmaximus you seem to be good at disrespecting the United States Military, as is anyone who thinks that your comment is funny.

  • @TheNaughtiusmaximus Disgrace.

  • @TheNaughtiusmaximus jackass

  • 2 people need to be "Semper Paratus"

  • Verse 1 From Aztec Shore to Arctic Zone, To Europe and Far East, The Flag is carried by our ships In times of war and peace; And never have we struck it yet, In spite of foemen's might, Who cheered our crews and cheered again For showing how to fight.

  • Chorus We're always ready for the call, We place our trust in Thee.

Through surf and storm and howling gale, High shall our purpose be, "Semper Paratus" is our guide, Our fame, our glory, too. To fight to save or fight and die! Aye! Coast Guard, we are for you.

  • Verse 2 "Surveyor" and "Narcissus," The "Eagle" and "Dispatch," The "Hudson" and the "Tampa," These names are hard to match; From Barrow's shores to Paraguay, Great Lakes or Ocean's wave, The Coast Guard fights through storms and winds To punish or to save.

    Chorus

  • Verse 3 Aye! We've been "Always Ready" To do, to fight, or die! Write glory to the shield we wear In letters to the sky. To sink the foe or save the maimed Our mission and our pride. We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come Ideals for which we've died.

  • OORAH

  • does anybody know what Semper Paratus means right off the top of their head?

It is Latin and means "Always Ready"

  • Sousa did not compose SEMPER PARATUS. Captain Francis S. Van Boskerck, USCG DID in 1923!!! SEMPER PARATUS has the distinction of being the ONLY US service song composed by an active duty member of the service. TELL THAT TO THE MARINES!

    An old CWO (BOSN) sends!

  • To go knowing that you might not return... no different form the other branches except the Coast Guard does it daily and in worst conditions.

Then after all that they go convoy escort duties, sub hunting assignments, and invasion support duties as well as mine sweeping and now counter terror duties.

    Busy folks they are.

  • @letusarise they have it on the helmsman, you can download it from the coast guard website. USCG.mil

  • Sousa is great!

  • This was apparently included on a CD of Sousa marches and all got attributed to John Phillip Sousa. He did not write this nor arrange it. It is not "Sousa's Band" either. The quality alone shows it was not recorded by "his band" unless you want to consider the Marine Corps band to be his by heredity. He led it before going off on his own.

  • its his arrangment

  • SEMPER PARATUS!!!!!! the United States Coast Guard rocks

  • @kdm2r4 Thank you saying that the Coast Guards rocks. My father was only african american on an ice breaker WW2. He his 92 years young and still salty!

  • No matter who wrote it, it is one of the best renditions, and who will complain when lost as sea, 900 miles SW of San Francisco for 28 days in the middle of the Pacific when the CGC Campbell Whec-32 and the Hercules C-130 arrives on scene. SK3 Humberg USCG 1969-1978!

  • This song was written by Capt. F. S. van Boskerck in 1922. Sousa was alive at this time -- he died ten years later -- but this arrangement sounds nothing like Sousa.

  • John Phillp Sousa did not write the U.S. Coast Guard march "Semper Paratus"

  • it's his version of it you idiot

  • I'm not so sure dragoon. Zzahier has several songs attributed to Sousa that weren't written by him. Some of them were even written after Sousa's death (Off we go into the wild blue yonder). At least one was written before Sousa was born (I wish I was in the land of cotton).
