I just bought my very first Vita-Mix. I so completely understand your pause and deep love for it. LOL I loved the Shameless indoctrination with your daughter, as I too am trying to convert my youngest of 3 kids...The older two are 18 and 16 and are just so darned stubborn. The youngest one is 11 and not HAS stubborn. The very last part showing the comment from the hubby was a awesome!

I had one, but after watching popular mechanics review on blenders. I purchased a kitchenaid 56 oz blender instead. I worked faster and blended better than my old vita mix

The vitamix is a good product if your interested in obtaining high density nutrition in liquid form. Personally, I found that after awhile I missed eating actual fruits and veggies...and in fact prefer them over drinking liquid. The one main problem with the Vitamix 5200 is the fact that if you pulverize fruits and veggies to the point of complete liquid...you no longer reap the benfits of fiber within those foods. There are too many other foods other than fruits and veggies that havefiber.

Incorrect. The fiber is still there when blending whole fruits/veggies. Unlike juicers. The Vitamix may pulverize them into liquid form, but even in this form your body cannot digest the fiber. The inability to digest fiber...is what makes it fiber.

Fiber is simply the part of the plant cell wall ( cellulose) that we cannot digest. The vitamix claims it completely pulverizes the plant cell wall. If that is indeed the case then you will not be getting a fiber particle size large enough to produce the fiber ( increase bowel transit effects) of undigested groupings of plant cell walls...that you get from eating fruits and veggies. Example corn. That is why fiber is sometimes called roughage.

Vitamix is not exactly juicing. You use the entire (or 90%) fruit/veg. Juicing usually just extracts the juice from the plant, and you discard the rest (which, is usually good for you as well). Juicers make it easy to get way too much sugar. Fiber, and the other parts of fruits/veggies help slow the insulin spike.

@CSFP123 Vitamix is pretty much the bets blender available, other than the blendtec, that is. A juicer removes the 'pulp' or fiber from the fruit/vegetable, so you only get the liquid (water and sugar) from the foods. The stems, seeds and skins are left out.

The Vitamix pulverizes everything into a smooth puree, and chops down the stems and seeds down to very VERY small pieces,

i noticed that the stainless steel blades can need sharpening on occasion. Nice thing about the Vitamix over the blendtec, is that the blandes can be removed from the jar for blade sharpening.

Wow. That Vitamix actually lasted 20 years!!! I am pleased with my choice now. I just got mine this week.  I struggled between getting it or the Blendtec, but knowing yours lasted so long gives me confirmation that I made the right choice. Hope your new purchase out lasts your previous one.
