Hmmmm, at first I was skeptical after reading all of the comparisons between Momoe and the beautiful Aya Ueto, but, after witnessing her singing, I have to concur...She is absolutely stunning and her voice is heaven-sent! We don't have artists like this in the United States these days. This show, being her final performance, must have sent Japan into a mourning period which it will most likely never overcome. We (the world, that is) lost The Beatles, so I know how they feel...Thank god for Aya!

This song is for a campaign "Discover Japan" by JNR (Japanes National Railways) in 1970.

In the Year 1970, I took a sleeping car only express named Ginga (Milky Way) at Tokyo to Kyoto in order to enjoy "Mary Hopkin Show" at Expo Hall, Osaka-Suita.

Later, maybe in around 1980s this song is selected as all-day platform music in Sendai Sta where my raising a glass or two tavern...

I hear the Expo Hall and the Ginga not available today.

Yes it is categorized as Fork, quite different from traditional Japanese folks though. Rather European taste.

Enka singers usually wear kimono/ wa-huku, Japanese traditional formal dress.

In my mind this song is one of JNR (Japanese National Railways) CM songs. Many many times I heard this at platform 4 (up bound-for Tokyo limited express departures) in Sendai Station around 1980s when getting the Hibari (Skylark). It made me fast return to home.
