Not sure if you know this or not......

F1 cars are usually small displacement V8 motors with ~15,000rpm redlines... A small multi-cylinder engine revved to the moon can typically sound like an F1 car..

am gonna correct u, F1 engines are capable of revvin beyond 21k RPM, but the FIA have limited them to 18k for 2009 season to save costs and all that crap,

it is important to have the right airbox, and exhaust to be able to achieve this kind of sound from a say a v8, but ur right they are small displacement, otherwise the internal components would be to heavy to achieve high RPM's

Well correct me if I am wrong to but... Formula 1 engines are designed to work within a range that being upward for 18000 rpm... I doubt that an F1 car could run an entire grand prix with a red line around 21 grand. In any case I seem to remember that lightweight small displacement high powered high revving engines have problems with harmonix at certain RPMs and the high you go the more the problem is present so wouldn't that make 21k useless and counter productive to an F1 driver?
