I don't think its a basement; it looks like an old chicken coop or horse stalls on a farm or something... there are windows.... probably on his upstate CA property. Some type of out-building. If I had his finances at my disposal I certainly would have a recording studio on my own property as well. Then again he records often through a boom box, so not much initial money needed. We should all take a lesson from that.
