The only idea that ive heard that sounds like it could work is either, electromagnetic fusion containment engine, and the ability to wrap space-time around the spacecraft using extreme gravity, possibly using mini blackholes, so that it can move from one point in space to another distant point in a shorter time than light, but not breaking the lightspeed barrier.
