  • Dear coloraturafan don't u have the finale also? I would like to compare hers with the frittoli's one.

  • I first saw Daniela Dessi at the Met Opera in 2002-3 in Butterfly. Although the voice was too small at that time, she gave 200% to the drama and her final scene was BREATHTAKING. It sounds like the voice is quite a lot bigger here (and lustrous!) but the orchestra of Butterfly is 3x the size of this one. She's quite an actress, nevertheless!

  • This opera forms part of Puccini's "Il trittico" each one a short one act opera, performed consecutively. Namely, Il Tabarro, Sour Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. As to why the operas are not performed very often, I dont know. Perhaps its because, apart from the famous aria from Gianni Schicchi "O mio babbino caro" or, O my beloved father, there are not really any of the beautiful arias we associate with Puccini. Just a thought.

  • Yes, you are probably right, but as soon as one discovers these operas, they count to one's favourites very fast. :-)

  • splendid! i really love this version. i adore the way daniela shades puccini's lines.

  • Oh this aria breaks me every time. The Scotto version is wonderful. In all honestly I have to control myself to get through the work. Thanks.

  • Great post! I love this opera, just discovered it and although I only know Daniela Dessi from Tosca I can already say that I really like her voice. She totally fits this role, a great suor.

Why don't they play this opera very often?
