my mom was near there and got to watch it. I am so happy they are rubuilding it. But i still miss the old times. That place was so fun to go into and everyone there was happy and smiling.
I only live eleven miles north, but not having a car, I don't get by there often. Went past last week, and am glad to see the rebuilding process. It will be nice when it is open again.
This is really sad. I went to Landmark College from 1987 - 1989. I would go to the General Store almost every day. Every weekend, my roommate & I would hang-out at the counter. I have a lot of great memories of the place. The Putney General will be missed.
This is almost too sad to watch. Kind of like watching the death of a good friend. I've been visiting the General Store for as long as I can remember, and it will never be the same.
I remeber coming back from skiing and we got lost, and I saw the building next to it burn up...then a year later I went to the greenwood school not far from putney school
My family owned the General Store for 30 years. My cousins and myself worked there growing up- it was our home away from home. My grandfather & grandmother dedicated their lives to the store and it's customers. So many local faces passed through there daily. Very hard to see this video. I hope the current owners are able to recover from this loss.
I haven't shopped there for years because of the new owner and how he treated staff and customers. The Co-op is so much nicer. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the result of faulty electrical. Its very sad, a town landmark being lost like that. I heard that it was for sale again, so maybe there is hope for it to be restored.
How devastating to the owners to have worked day and night to bring the general store to the best it has been in the 30 years I have been a customer. Expecting your staff to work hard and to be honest is a good thing and something we could all learn from.
One of the "victims," Micah McTaggart, is a first class bum. He has a judgment against him for unpaid bills he's been ducking for over a year.

I've also been at the store many times since the early 1990s. So sad that it's gone.

Yea, I've heard about the owner, but, I've stopped at the Gen Store since 1973, hard to believe it's gone.
