  • One of the "victims," Micah McTaggart, is a first class bum. He has a judgment against him for unpaid bills he's been ducking for over a year.

  • SO terribly sad, all those memories, up in smoke.

  • 4 banger last night in the same store, burnt to the ground

  • wow thats so sad i used to go there alot...on way to highschool for a warm drink in winter

  • There was another Fire at the store tonight. Sounds like it was destroyed once again

  • i was in that bulding bout 20 minutes before it caught fire...So Sad

  • wow i was at mountain paul's with a friend in the appartments when that happend and it really sucked the store has been there since the 1700's

  • Oh man i remember the fire we passed it on the way back from indian love cove. that was awful. Im glad its being rebuilt now.

  • This is up the street from where my cousin and her family live.

  • my mom was near there and got to watch it. I am so happy they are rubuilding it. But i still miss the old times. That place was so fun to go into and everyone there was happy and smiling.

  • It's the second time if you haven't figured it out, this happened last night.

Don't get your hopes up on it being rebuilt.

  • this one didnt happen last night, this one happened in 2008. if u type in putney general store fire 11/2/09 then u can see the one that happened..

  • I only live eleven miles north, but not having a car, I don't get by there often. Went past last week, and am glad to see the rebuilding process. It will be nice when it is open again.

  • death of another beautiful ande friendly landmark. I will miss the old store. Even rebuilding, it will never have the same character. :(

  • my cousin lived up the street from them...

whos house burnt down in feb 07.

    lol ironyyy

  • This is really sad. I went to Landmark College from 1987 - 1989. I would go to the General Store almost every day. Every weekend, my roommate & I would hang-out at the counter. I have a lot of great memories of the place. The Putney General will be missed.

  • i used to go to putney skool and i saw that it was pretty bad

  • This is horrible!

I went to the Putney school and used to eat there every weekend...a real tragedy.

  • This is almost too sad to watch. Kind of like watching the death of a good friend. I've been visiting the General Store for as long as I can remember, and it will never be the same.

  • if i remember correctly the building next to it had a similar upper floor fire while i was a student at putney several years ago.

  • I remeber coming back from skiing and we got lost, and I saw the building next to it burn up...then a year later I went to the greenwood school not far from putney school

  • it's sounds like a canadian show called putnam's prairie emporium--it was a lame show

  • thats a weird comment to make about somone's business burning down. Rude, and irrelevant.

  • This is real. Not a show.

  • My cousin Nancy Gagnon Burch and her Husband, Bob and Children live not to far from there.

  • hah, I know them, they are my neighbors.

  • i go to school with nancys daughter anna. And yeah not to far from there. I dont live far from there either

  • My family owned the General Store for 30 years. My cousins and myself worked there growing up- it was our home away from home. My grandfather & grandmother dedicated their lives to the store and it's customers. So many local faces passed through there daily. Very hard to see this video. I hope the current owners are able to recover from this loss.

  • You must be one of the Fairchilds. I liked the store when you guys ran it. I grew up there,

am Brian's age. Its terrible to see this! I hope they can restore it.

  • You just never know who you're going to meet here,

I used to play on the Brandywine softball team with Bob and the Casabonas

  • bob burch? he owns now bradywine glassworks

  • my department was covering Putney's station during this fire. As i was told Putney's response time to this fire was perfect.

  • I've also been at the store many times since the early 1990s. So sad that it's gone.

  • Yea, I've heard about the owner, but, I've stopped at the Gen Store since 1973, hard to believe it's gone.

  • I haven't shopped there for years because of the new owner and how he treated staff and customers. The Co-op is so much nicer. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the result of faulty electrical. Its very sad, a town landmark being lost like that. I heard that it was for sale again, so maybe there is hope for it to be restored.

  • How devastating to the owners to have worked day and night to bring the general store to the best it has been in the 30 years I have been a customer. Expecting your staff to work hard and to be honest is a good thing and something we could all learn from.

  • NOOOO omg I cant belive it its so hard to watch. *cries*

  • NOOOOOOO I was just there!.... Hey is that you Kali (kalico99kat)?
