One of mine walked around with a mouse in his mouth for heaven knows how long before I could tell he had something in there and I told him to spit it out and out ran this mouse he had been stalking all day.

Only problem I see with a Newfie, is that if someone broke in the house, the dog would only want to be petted by the intruder ....they are lousy guard dogs, because they are just too nice!
I own a Newfie ( 135 lb Female), and it is, without a doubt, the nicest dog I've ever owned. I have absolutely no problem or fear letting my 1 year old play with it. My daughter pulls on his fur/ears/tail, and that dog loves it. My kid can even take food out of the dogs dish while shes eating, and "Loki" dont care. I trust that dog 100%.

@gizmosav the website was dogsforless or something like that so they sell HEALTHY newfy puppies cheaper than most and people buy more so really they make greater income by doing this.... its a great sales trick

@oneperipatetic to be sure you are buying from a responsible breeder that screens for health problems and has the right to breed, you should be paying around $2000. If you really want a newf though......this is the way to go. Could you imagine a 150lb+ dog with hip and joint problems.......you'll be spending way more than $2000 on vet bills.
@UndercoverPegasus You could look into rescuing a Newfie. Lots of Newfies get abandoned because some people don't properly anticipate how big they get. It'd be win-win: a Newfie for you and a lost dog gets a new, loving home. :)

OMG wow he's HUGE !! and ADORABLE !!! I am in the process of getting one to use as a service dog for my son who has autism. As the child gets older and starts to weigh more, for the dog to anchor down if he bolts. He currently knows no danger. Scares me to death at times.I think this will be what we need to help keep my little one safe at all times.

always great to see a beautiful Newfie- although all are Newfoundlands, with the white bib and markings do they not call them Landseers anymore? The female we had for 14 years was only 130 lbs and just as playful and kind. She was glossy black with bronze highlights in her coat, something that has been selected for particularly in the Hungarian and Finnish chocolate Newfoundlands I have seen at the International shows in Poland where we found our Newfi back in1974.
Newfs - No one can say enough about a Newf! I purchased my first one 3 years ago (Maddie, Black, 90 lbs.) and my second 16 months old (Samson, Brown,150 lbs). The Newf is the largest lap dog you can own and GREAT cuddlers! Family orientated! Low Engery, but when they play...they play like a child, incredible spunk!

i got a newfy and hes called beau (u say it like bow ) hes a boy and is black we he was bout to our house from a amasing breeder and hes like a brother to me , me and him wrestle like this and we are meant to be with each other because he was born on the day my old dog was born , btw my dog is not fully grown , hes 7 month old and hes 9 and a half stone so hes a big boy !!!!!!!!!!!! lol
oh boy, that brought tears to my eyes. my newfie died in january . absolutely the best dog ever. he was not as big only 135 .he lived 15 years which is really unusual. i just don't think he wanted to leave us . your dog is clearly loved . may you have 15 years too

Typical fun loving newf. I miss my grandparents 2 newfs, they had to be put down a year and two years ago. Ill get one once I have a bigger place. Best companion ever.

Imagine a 7 month old puppy galloping towards you like a freight train, with all good intentions of hugs and dripping kisses! Of course that's for those who haven't owned one yet. Did you see or read the article about Rosie? She made the mistake of jumping her 6 foot fence while mom and dad were away. You'll to read it but it'll rip your heart out. Cops ended up tazing her 2, and shooting 4 times.

i got a newfy and hes called beau (u say it like bow ) hes a boy and is black we he was bout to our house from a amasing breeder and hes like a brother to me , me and him wrestle like this and we are meant to be with each other because he was born on the day my old dog was born , btw my dog is not fully grown , hes 7 month old and hes 9 and a half stone so hes a big boy !!!!!!!!!!!! lol

oh boy, that brought tears to my eyes. my newfie died in january . absolutely the best dog ever. he was not as big only 135 .he lived 15 years which is really unusual. i just don't think he wanted to leave us . your dog is clearly loved . may you have 15 years too

I have been researching these dogs for awhile now but i rather hear from actual newfie owners what they are like. So can you tell me all about newfies since you own one? what special needs do they require? do they need experienced owners or would they be suitable for a novice owner? Typical fun loving newf. I miss my grandparents 2 newfs, they had to be put down a year and two years ago. Ill get one once I have a bigger place. Best companion ever.

@gizmosav I have a seven month old male. He's just awesome! I'd say he weighs about 125+. Imagine a 7 month old puppy galloping towards you like a freight train, with all good intentions of hugs and dripping kisses! Of course that's for those who haven't owned one yet. Did you see or read the article about Rosie? She made the mistake of jumping her 6 foot fence while mom and dad were away. You'll to read it but it'll rip your heart out. Cops ended up tazing her 2, and shooting 4 times.

@smackely Yes!! Newfies are friends with everyone!! I live in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada! Its great to have 2 dogs that are so well behaved from my home Provence!! if oyu ever get a newfie, take them swimming with you!! They are known for there webbed paws and are known for saving people!!

LOVE your dog! Always had Golden Retrievers but owning a Newfie is a dream! Hubby says I can get one on the way home from his funeral! I think that means "no" to a Newfie! LOL

i have a newfieee ;} They are very Bright and Positive And most of all gentle, they call them the keepers of nature/gentle giants. :) they are the coolest dogs on the planet!
