aaalayna says shes stuck in the past with The Cardigans lol. Early 90s isnt that long ago. Im stuck in the late 60s early 70s Atomic Rooster, King Crimson, Alice Cooper, Budgie, Bloodrock, Lucifers Friend....the list goes on n on! I was into Venom, Mercyful Fate, Exodus, Hellhammer in the 80s the 90s not much of anything as for the 21st century I listen to retro sounding Stoner rock bands and I always detested syrupy pop music but I really dig the Cardigans must be Ninas looks and silky voice!
One of their first hits, and one of their best... my favorite ... the retro sound and the dark texts, is the Cardigans trademark. Nina Persson when on to a solo project with her husband forming A-camp. Very good also ... she continues to sing ... recently survived breast cancer ... and was feature in the documentary " I am my own Dolly Parton" Great artist !
The funny thing about the Cardigans to me is that I only just found out about them about a year ago. I guess that isn't that funny, seeing it in writing. The song that turned me onto them was Losers. I heard it and just had to figure out who it was. The Cardigans? What the hell? Don't they sing that Lovefool song? Sure enough, it was the same Cardigans. Now I can't stop. Really. I think I'm sick. Coming from a huge metal fan, it must say something that I think their version of (cont.)
@SillySantaHat (cont.) Mr. Crowley is way better than Ozzy's. Then again, I was done with Ozzy ages ago. Not to mention all of their Black Sabbath covers. Seriously, I think I'm ill.
@SillySantaHat wow i'm really surprised right now, I expected I'd be the only huge metal fan who all of a sudden couldn't stop listening to the Cardigans.....
@SillySantaHat I remember when I first listened the Cardigans in radio in the 90ties, the broadcaster saying that its musicians came from a heavy metal group, so you shouldn't be too much surprised :)
@RenaTToCV What I make out of it, it's about memories from the past (probably the seventies, if you look at the posters etc.) and an old love that has vanished. The good ol' days, which are better then the cold present. I could be wrong, of course. When I discovered Emmerdale in the nineties, I could really rely on the lyrics.
@robin14669 yep maybe! actually i realized about the period of time that it was done from posters but the lyric with video damn! i can not find the relation!!! that´s what i like a lot that video and music...
I remember buying the album just for Carnival but was amazed at the rest. It sounded very different from a lot of crap that was apparently the norm back in 1995-1996, and to this day I still listen to it regularly. Later they evolved into more mainstream music, but this first album made me feel like the fact they were so separated from the american continent gave them something special, something like being free from the boring standarization of the rest of the music world.
its amazing how few people have an original way of singing most sing the same ,people who are different that come to mind is morrisey,Dylan and cohen and Nina ! of course great voice fantastic band ,skilled songwriters .
when I hear this amazing voice I feel in love in anything. This is exactly why the cardigans were the first non-metal album I bought. Yeah, quite a change,. That was twelve yrs ago, I heard them on the radio, fell in love and bought the album with "carnival" where "tomorrow" was my favourite. Later I bought a couple of more albums of theirs and today they put "rise and shine" in the radio so I had to listen to some more cardigans
@Efis1979 I'm a metal head too and recently got into them. This album in particular is great music, and the next couple ones up to Gran Tourismo, but I don't think their new country stuff after that quite compares.
@phunkyboy I thought only one of the guitarists and the bassist were metal musicians, not that the whole band played metal... where are there metal songs by The Cardigans?
It may be more glorious days as the poster says, but their later stuff has its meaning too; it is simply not the perfection of lounge-bossa nova-dream pop-Bacharach-Spector revivalism that this era is. First Band On the Moon is even better in my opinion. But that might be due to memories affiliated with their 1996 work
Unbeatable. The cardigans were my first favorite band when I was like ten. I still listen and love today - but now I appreciate how effective these swedes are, not offensive like today's music. I'm stuck in the past with Nina persson. Hey, worse places to be :) glad for YouTube so I can see things like this I didn't have access to ten years ago.
Nice Nina, Nice song, Just Nice :) Even for a MetalFan like me.
Good music has no special genres. Its found everywhere (almost) Just spare my ears for Hard Style Techno ( thats not music, but programming) and a lot of the music from the states, cause the big companies, BUY airtime, and let their lousy music, like westcoast-rap, R' n B, and all that shit that havent evolved the last 10 years, play.Just boring and killing the small bands & new styles, who deserve airtime, but no big company behind
I still search which band & artist can sing as perfect as Nina. I love thier music & still prefer 'Life' album as the best Cardigans album to me. I can feel the grow of their music by album, from innocent 60's to hippy 70's ..i wish they could back to retro 60's again...like, this "Sick & Tired".. - Peace from Malaysia =)
Yeah, Me too ! I prefer this sound, they had reached almost pure perfection if you ask me, still today it's mindblowing, just beautifull ! Although it's good they sound different on each album ... they constantly try to re-invent themself , wich i can admire !!!
I like so much this period of the Cardigans (my favourite) such a great melodies sweet and sour. One of my favourite band of all times ! Ph. from France
yes I agree, Nina's voice is very versatile, here you can hear hers is very thin and sweet but nowadays she performs stronger, more rock, and more power..but still very very soothing for her fans, like me! Love you Nina!!
You probably haven't listened to the Cardigans and A camp last albums because Nina has been extending and stretching her vocal range as years past by. Now her voice can be very sweet but also very strong and she possesses it totally.
Thank you very much for the explanation of ATTIC withlovefromcologne, I only study english language, iniapadecua is a word that I used to hear from a cousin during my childhood. Saludos desde México!
Hi, I'm studying english language and I have a doubt in this lyric, when Nina said "You can always say my ATTIC has its charm" I can`t understand the word ATTIC, Could someone help me with the meaning of that word or the complete phrase please, thank you very much.
This song is so marvelous. Nina looks so charming in this video. I can't believe it is from 1994. She was only twenty in this clip. If I could (erase&)rewind this amazing years :)))
my favorite part is at 2:35. For some reason it just reminds of the simple good old days.
