Can somebody please punch me for enjoying this? WHY do I enjoy this SHIT?! WTF?! It's like the only song that I enjoy on this album. I half way like another 2, but Lou's even worse singing on those songs fuck it up. Plus the lyrics are horrid anyhow. I really only like this one, and tbh it's not good enough to be called even mediocre. But for some reason, I can listen and enjoy it all the way through. I'm not right in the head, and this just proves it.
this happens when you really don't have any ideas or be in the mood for music and the music industries push you for something to sell. this is capitalism. sell shit, souls etc
@chrysmanchu I'd say it's the opposite... Metallica could just do a 'thrash-by-numbers' album but they chose to risk their neck by making something more divisive.
its ok... it is like lou reed with metallica arrangements... i really respect the bravery to do this... but for me (fan of both), lou reed's music cannot be metaled, just because it is oldschool rock&roll pure and simple. metallica instead... they are best know because of their progressive forms and variety of very good riffs all in one song.
Song is decent. I mean like metallica has been through thrash, heavy, mainstream metal. I can understand why they want a change in style after all these years i mean it is understandable.
Then why not try jazz, classical, psychedelic... I dunno man, there are about thousand or so music genres out there, soo I totally understand a band wanting to change the phase of the game... but this just sounds like left over metallica riffs with lou reed talking in the backround
What the hell happened to James Hetfield? He used to be a total badass, now with short spiked hair and all those tats he looks like total white trash.
@ZX2ManDave hey, thats not true.. I'm a big Metallica and Reed fan, and I think the music is quite good! I think its interesting to see two acts so different work together
Am I the only person in the universe who thinks "Lulu" is a great album ? It's an amazing collision of two different styles that makes for a ground breaking and challenging collection of songs, I guess some people would rather Metallica just made the same album again and again, credit to them for trying something new and stretching their boundaries. Lou Reed is still one of the most gifted musicians I have ever seen.
If you think all Metallica albums sound the same, I guarantee you've never listened to them. They've gone from speed metal to progressive thrash to alternative rock with hints of country, to nu metal garage rock, and back to thrash again. If you think Kill em All even sounds like the same band as Load, you are a liar.
@binabinacat If you read my comment correctly you will see I never said all Metallica albums sound the same. I accused some people of wanting all Metallica albums to sound the same. I have been following Metallica since the "Justice" album, so no I am not a liar. I've also seen Metallica live 4 times so I think I know what I am talking about.
Also I have listened to all of the Metallica albums and know they don't all sound the same and have been actively listening to music as a fan for nearly 30 years and welcome new sounds and challenging ideas, hence the fact I think Lulu is a great album. I just feel sad for people who just want to hear the same thing over and over again, but I don't consider you to be one of them,
@matdelta1 Ok, That's something I obviously should've first considered before commenting but, my comment was based more on hearing Death Magnetic, when it was released, thinking they'd righted the wrongs of St Anger (which has some alright stuff but I agree with the general consensus that it wasn't a great album), then I heard this mix of poetry and metal, and felt like a new mistake had been made after Metallica had done so brilliantly to right their sound with Death Magnetic.
Gosh all of us who can play some chords and bullshit something into it at the same time can go replace lou reed lol XD Doesn't even need melodic sense XDD
I've only heard 'The View' (dislike) 'Dragon' (like), and...most of this track, but I feel that, if the collaboration had stopped at Lou Reed not singing anything and, instead, if not James, someone younger had stepped in and sung Lou Reed's part instead - it would sound alright. Metallica's instrumentals, I think, are just too much of a contradiction to Lou Reeds voice, which hides under overly repeated riffs. Change the vocalist and the album might be alright (I think).
This is, without question, the best thing Metallica has ever done. They should see if they can recruit Lou as a full-time frontman, so James can concentrate on gurning and shaping his goatee more.
well i think it a good album another good song successive by metallica and lou reed. mostly people dont like it because sound and the vocals. lou reed does all kind of Genes. And Metallica Choose it. nobody said nothing when they play together at the rock and roll hall of fame in 2009.
I hafta get this of my chest. It's a Lou Reed conspired Album...way over Metallica's fans head's. Metallica Did well though..Kudos to them. An Album hard to swallow for the majority. Metal Machine Music maybe top 40 in the next 50 Years, who knows?
@streethassled I have honestly tried to give this a chance. I appreciate music from many genres, this isn't over my head. It sounds sloppy, monotonous and lacks any sort of a groove. This is like a modern art piece where paint is splashed all over a canvas and called art when in reality it looks like a kindergartner's doodles. I understand art is subjective to the audience, that is what makes it interesting. This album took balls to put out though, I will give them that.
Please Metallica Fans, "Lulu" is obviously a Lou Reed album with Metallica as backing band along with other musicians, so if you don't like it don't beat the shit out of it and just listen to Metallica albums. Okay?
@CollectiveVentures1 Art is a quite big concept....Anyways I like the artistic way they're proposing this poetry: I think it's something quite unusual (not new, but unusual), and to hear some heavy riffs (I don't find em "bad", but these are just personal tastes!) mixed with a theatrical pièce is a brave decision, cause is something NOT commercial and, for this reason, not for all. Lou Reed ('cause this is a Reed album) has always been an experimental, that's what I like!

I LOVE the album, I think it's because I'm more a fan of Lou Reed than Metallica...I'd go as far as to say that if he'd done it with another, more obscure metal band, it would've been hailed as innovative and courageous. The main issue is that Metallica fans simply don't "get" Reed.
WOW!!Seriously?? I never thought that METALLICA would actually sellout quite like this??Heehee!!The Like/Dislike bar is almost even with only a 64 vote difference!
@sammylane21 I despise the album, but how are they selling out? They are collaborating with a guy that has a tiny cult following and is slaughtered by music listeners and critics non stop! They guy hasn't had a hit since the early 70s.
@sammylane21 jesus you are retarded, i think lulu is awful but this is the oppisate of selling out, collaborating with lou reed to make possibly the least possible commercially succesful album ever?
@wasurai This is an excellent theme and you may take 20 years to understand the true meaning of art and why metallica with more than 30 years continues to be successful
@ericksardinas1 I'll get back to you in 20 years when I've managed to understand the true meaning of art then. I was certain I'd figured it out at university, but back then they didn't have this album to show us as an example.
@wasurai Intelligence and knowledge are two different things, your confusion begins in the time to collect information that you think is synonymous with intelligence, but it is not, intelligence is the ability to use these data and constructive use of them ... if metallica had continued to record albums like "kill em all" would still be playing in bars to 100 drunk ... I love thrash metal, but also applaud the capability maturity of the band.
@ericksardinas1 Why are you pretending to be smart? Why are you pretending to know anything about me? I was being sarcastic. Did you miss that? Who mentioned 'Kill 'em All'? Actually I don't care for the band. This is garbage. Sorry.
"We do what we wanna do, if they call that selling out then whatever" Quoth the great Cliff Burton. Though I agree that this isn't Metallica's style AT ALL. Yes, they've had "easier" songs, ballads, but they were always in their style. This album is a great way to show their creativity in other styles of music, but it's all it is. Nothing more. Metallica's new album will probably be their huge comeback after they've seen the criticism regarding this project. And Lou's singing is just talking lol
I almost feel sorry for metallica..im so sure the crowd inside was thinking, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS GARBAGE" oh how the mighty have fallen..and I almost feel sorry for metallica but I dont cause they make more money in 30 seconds than i will ever make in my life, but man this is HORRIBLE, this makes reload and st anger seem like master of puppets and and justice for all, BY THE WAY..Megadeths new album is amazingly bad ass!!
@TheFantasticMrHell wtf does attaching a name mean? A band that has succesfully released metal albums does not have the right to experiment with other kinds of music? eg marty friedman or beatles. lemmy claims motorhead is a hard rock band, fans consider him metal. fuck labels, they wanted to do it so they did it. it would be wrong if they didn't cause they are fucking MUSICIANS!
and personally, i obviously prefer the old metallica, but my point is that it doesn't matter
@Must7Rock what kind of music is this? i hate this, because metallica started out as fire brathing "destroy posers" band. look at james now, look at him! instead of "ice honeeeeeeeeeeeea", he should sing, "more moneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaah!
It sounds like a decent band are playing at someones wedding and the brides drunk uncle gets up to sing and the band are like, I suppose they are paying for it, so lets humour him.
i love the riff of just this song but, lou reed reminds me with the guys in American idol who tried 2 cover a song with voice to show his talent ( like the guys who think they are really talented)
I'm sure this is the best Lou Reed Album ever! However it still sucks. While I can appreciate the artistic side of this idea and venture for all parties involved it simply doesn't make up for the fact that this horrendous. That said, as a metallica fan I'm not even suprised anymore. The alienation from the fanbase that made them who they are began with the black album and has slowly but surely descended to this....this! what the hell is this!?!?!?
Can somebody please punch me for enjoying this? WHY do I enjoy this SHIT?! WTF?! It's like the only song that I enjoy on this album. I half way like another 2, but Lou's even worse singing on those songs fuck it up. Plus the lyrics are horrid anyhow.

And Lou's singing is just talking lol

im happy to see lou reed getting the respect he deserves from metallica. But I think he needs to retire, he just doesn't have it in him anymore.

Lou Reed is a great musician but in this video looks like a big loser. Totally fail.

Lulu is the worst thing that has happened to music for a very long time. I'd rather listen to "Rebecca Black" than this...

Must7Rock 2 months ago
@Must7Rock what kind of music is this? i hate this, because metallica started out as fire brathing "destroy posers" band. look at james now, look at him! instead of "ice honeeeeeeeeeeeea", he should sing, "more moneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaah!

It sounds like a decent band are playing at someones wedding and the brides drunk uncle gets up to sing and the band are like, I suppose they are paying for it, so lets humour him.

i love the riff of just this song but, lou reed reminds me with the guys in American idol who tried 2 cover a song with voice to show his talent ( like the guys who think they are really talented)
shavi306 2 months ago
I'm sure this is the best Lou Reed Album ever! However it still sucks. While I can appreciate the artistic side of this idea and venture for all parties involved it simply doesn't make up for the fact that this horrendous. That said, as a metallica fan I'm not even suprised anymore. The alienation from the fanbase that made them who they are began with the black album and has slowly but surely descended to this....this! what the hell is this!?!?!?

1. THIS IS NOT A METALLICA ALBUM
2. HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE A LOU REED ALBUM WITHOUT KNOWING THE LYRICS? THAT'S THE POINT OF HIS MUSIC.
3. It is being judged by people who expect a thrash album.
you can dislike it all you want but PLEASE dislike it for the right reasons.
-a tallica and reed fan
