TVC from the Raptor might even get unistalled in later development in the engine to farther increase stealth. I wouldn't surprised to see a YF-23 kind of nozzle in the back. TVC might sound great but it's not that great if you ONLY aim at BVR fights.

fuel storage lost to weapons bays is probably made up for by the reduced drag, after all you no longer have weapons hanging on the wings. & if you need alot of fire power & low observables isn't needed you could hang weapons on the wings + the weapons in the CFTs. for ground attack you could probably carry quite a few of the small diameter bombs that are becoming very popular.
I wouldn't disagree that you'd obviously reduce a lot of drag taking off the weapons from the wings.
I'm just wondering whether it can hold the same amount of weapons and/or if its capable of loading up weapons on the underbody.
I just know thats a major plus for the F15 and a plus is that extra fuel tanks can replace weapons..I just wonder whether this plane has that capability. Its a beaut, just wish I knew more of its capabilities and capacity.
Still has plenty of external hard points, plus greater fuel capacity. So if you need it for ground pounding the potential is still there. Air to Air capacity is unchanged, and that is when you would be using it in stealthy configuration.
I think the reason this is being developed is because of the current economy. The price of F-22 and F-35 will just increas and F-15SE might be a cheeper alternative for a stealthy fighter plane

F-4 wasn't shitty, it was far superior to the Mig-21.
The majority of losses were due to unreliable missiles in jungle environment, terrible tactics used and Shitty rules of Engagements that prevented BvR shots.

The F-4 was simply not designed as a dogfighter; a heavy weight beyond-visual-range interceptor, built instead around unwarranted faith in missile technology of the period. Within visual range, the F-4 had to rely on boom and zoom tactics as it was never the better of "any" MiG in the realm of true dogfighting performance/agility.

Compared to the F-22, this is semi-stealth, you can tell by the shape of the nose. It is good for close dogfights, but in stealth missions, only the F-22 and 35.
Right now is it is expensive, but in the long run, when the financial crisis will end the Raptor will be totally inexpensive. And you know why? Cause if you are not stealth (Again, stealth, and not stealthy), and you are going on a mission, you'd probably be shot down by an AA system. The cost of each shot plane is much higher than the cost of maintaining the raptor for five years.
When You use ECM the enemy is aware that you're present and just need to look for you either electronically or visually while Stealth when planned and used well won't even noticed you are flying deep into their territory!!!
You needn't tell that to me, really. I've got pretty much knowledge about that... But it's US Propaganda that you can enter the air space of a highly industrialised country without being seen... Stealth may help, but in the end, AWACS and ground radar get you. Even if it has a radar signature like a bird, it can be identified, especially when flying at 1000 mph...
And for countries like iraq you don't need stealth, ECM are enough...
RCS as big as bird will be hard to distinguish from background radar clutter, your radar won't recognise a Stealth Aircraft which radar sees as intermittently flying 1000 mph

I don't say that it isn't effective against small, old-fashioned countries attacked for oil reasons... but they had no (!) losses of F-15C/D, for example. But i'd like to see a stealth aircraft capable to break into US, Europe or Russian airspace undetectedly...
Neither the U.S. or europe has a heavily guarded airspace. not like you'd see in other places. there are no sam sites scattered around. you'd be blown out of the sky over the atlantic in the ADIZ.
you can't shoot down something that you can't detect. by the time the raptor is detected, you've already ate an antiradiation missile. plus with it supercruising any missile you get off would run out of fuel before it could catch up.
Overall this is a very impressive modernization of the F-15. The ability to only carry four AIM-120s internally is somewhat lacking, but it is better than nothing. Really this should be compared to 4.5th generation aircraft and not true 5th generation designs like the F-22 and F-35.
Due to budget cuts I imagine the US could end up upgrading F-15s to this standard, although we may just go with regular conformal fuel tanks.
Well, it's stealthy, not stealth...the shape of the nose alone means it will still be detectable, just not as easily as F-15E's. The question is whether the payload, range, and performance over the f-35 is worth the loss in stealhy-ness.
WOW this plane is SEXI!!! um um!!! I think we should bump the F-35As and use this bad boy. Because one its an D-15 and 2, it is slightly stealthy. COme on this is AWESOME, did i mention this is a sexi plane. Yea not only do we need to export it but we need to use it ourselves. Since many find the F-35 too slow (1200 mph) the silent Eagle may fit their needs. This is a perfect aircraft for both Japan and Isreal. Japan wants a fighter with 2 engines since they are surrounded by the ocean.
@akear Also with the weight issues the F-35 has, & the escalating cost making the aircraft nearly unaffordable the F-35 may not even enter service. I've heard the British are considering the Super Hornet instead for their new Queen Elizabeth class carriers, & that other nations starting to eye alternative airframes just in case.
@akear While I believe the F-35 definately has its niche, I would personally consider it to be the wrong aircraft for Canadian procurement... their most critical stated need being the "defense of national airspace from Sino/Russian incursion." The F-35 is an outstanding VSTOL-capable multi-role, but there are other aircraft which would offer superior performance and near-equal flexibility (e.g., rough-field capability) at vastly less cost; allowing for more operational units.

The F15 is the only undeafeated fighter in history. Every engagement the F15 has had with a Russian/Soviet fighter it has shot it down.
The F15's record stands at 101 kills 0 losses. No other plane record even compares.
The only thing that can shoot this down is an F22.

I understand the idea and think the plane looks beautiful but a couple questions..
1. How much longer do you think a pilot needs for the weapon to engage than on the older model F/15?
2. Isn't one of the best and/or most popular aspects of the F/15 its large space to stuff lots of weapons and fuel?
3. Would this plane be able to hold as much firepower?
I see the benefits of this design but wondering how these questions iron out the trade off..if there is one.

fuel storage lost to weapons bays is probably made up for by the reduced drag, after all you no longer have weapons hanging on the wings. & if you need alot of fire power & low observables isn't needed you could hang weapons on the wings + the weapons in the CFTs. for ground attack you could probably carry quite a few of the small diameter bombs that are becoming very popular.

I wouldn't disagree that you'd obviously reduce a lot of drag taking off the weapons from the wings.
I'm just wondering whether it can hold the same amount of weapons and/or if its capable of loading up weapons on the underbody.
I just know thats a major plus for the F15 and a plus is that extra fuel tanks can replace weapons..I just wonder whether this plane has that capability. Its a beaut, just wish I knew more of its capabilities and capacity.

Still has plenty of external hard points, plus greater fuel capacity. So if you need it for ground pounding the potential is still there. Air to Air capacity is unchanged, and that is when you would be using it in stealthy configuration.

I think the reason this is being developed is because of the current economy. The price of F-22 and F-35 will just increas and F-15SE might be a cheeper alternative for a stealthy fighter plane

Operation red flag,nevada a few years ago, F - 18 super hornet pilot found himself behind 2 F -22's (got lucky) blinding them with it's radar jaming capability (designed for ground radar jaming) the hornet took both out with guns before the Raptor pilots had any idea what was going on!!! Believable? I'm quoting a boeing technition here, I met at the avalon internation airshow 09, so I have real evidence to back it up, but something to think about! and in his word. F-4 wasn't shitty, it was far superior to the Mig-21.
The majority of losses were due to unreliable missiles in jungle environment, terrible tactics used and Shitty rules of Engagements that prevented BvR shots.
Right now, the F-4 in the hands of the Israelis, and Japanese pilots can out do Su-27s, and Mig-29s.
You got to look at the bigger picture.

@cr9527 I know more than a few who've flown both the F-4 and MiG-21, and each have said they'd prefer the MiG in a turning fight, any day. The F-4 was simply not designed as a dogfighter; a heavy weight beyond-visual-range interceptor, built instead around unwarranted faith in missile technology of the period. Within visual range, the F-4 had to rely on boom and zoom tactics as it was never the better of "any" MiG in the realm of true dogfighting performance/agility.

Compared to the F-22, this is semi-stealth, you can tell by the shape of the nose. It is good for close dogfights, but in stealth missions, only the F-22 and 35.

Right now is it is expensive, but in the long run, when the financial crisis will end the Raptor will be totally inexpensive. And you know why? Cause if you are not stealth (Again, stealth, and not stealthy), and you are going on a mission, you'd probably be shot down by an AA system. The cost of each shot plane is much higher than the cost of maintaining the raptor for five years.

When You use ECM the enemy is aware that you're present and just need to look for you either electronically or visually while Stealth when planned and used well won't even noticed you are flying deep into their territory!!!

You needn't tell that to me, really. I've got pretty much knowledge about that... But it's US Propaganda that you can enter the air space of a highly industrialised country without being seen... Stealth may help, but in the end, AWACS and ground radar get you. Even if it has a radar signature like a bird, it can be identified, especially when flying at 1000 mph...
And for countries like iraq you don't need stealth, ECM are enough...

RCS as big as bird will be hard to distinguish from background radar clutter, your radar won't recognise a Stealth Aircraft which radar sees as intermittently flying 1000 mph

you can't shoot down something that you can't detect. by the time the raptor is detected, you've already ate an antiradiation missile. plus with it supercruising any missile you get off would run out of fuel before it could catch up.

Overall this is a very impressive modernization of the F-15. The ability to only carry four AIM-120s internally is somewhat lacking, but it is better than nothing. Really this should be compared to 4.5th generation aircraft and not true 5th generation designs like the F-22 and F-35.
Due to budget cuts I imagine the US could end up upgrading F-15s to this standard, although we may just go with regular conformal fuel tanks.

Well, it's stealthy, not stealth...the shape of the nose alone means it will still be detectable, just not as easily as F-15E's. The question is whether the payload, range, and performance over the f-35 is worth the loss in stealhy-ness.

WOW this plane is SEXI!!! um um!!! I think we should bump the F-35As and use this bad boy. Because one its an D-15 and 2, it is slightly stealthy. COme on this is AWESOME, did i mention this is a sexi plane. Yea not only do we need to export it but we need to use it ourselves. If we add thrust vectoring and canards we would have a cheaper version of an F-22 but with maneverability of a Russian Flanker. This is would be WAY better than F-35As. I wanna fly this bad baby. I love this plane already

Since many find the F-35 too slow (1200 mph) the silent Eagle may fit their needs. This is a perfect aircraft for both Japan and Isreal. Japan wants a fighter with 2 engines since they are surrounded by the ocean.

@akear Also with the weight issues the F-35 has, & the escalating cost making the aircraft nearly unaffordable the F-35 may not even enter service. I've heard the British are considering the Super Hornet instead for their new Queen Elizabeth class carriers, & that other nations starting to eye alternative airframes just in case.

@akear While I believe the F-35 definately has its niche, I would personally consider it to be the wrong aircraft for Canadian procurement... their most critical stated need being the "defense of national airspace from Sino/Russian incursion." The F-35 is an outstanding VSTOL-capable multi-role, but there are other aircraft which would offer superior performance and near-equal flexibility (e.g., rough-field capability) at vastly less cost; allowing for more operational units.

F-15SE is an upgrade kit, as well as an Export variant.
They will most likely not be used by the US, but rather by countries such as South Korea, Japan, and any other friendlies.
The US will stick with their 5th gen toys.
