  • 'He understood the role of joy and play in reverence...' That's one of the most insightful things I've ever heard said about Bach.

  • Good music dances. Counterpoint 1 to 1, then 2 to 1, then 3 to 1, and so on.

  • I DO dance.....in my mind.

  • This is awesome. I just remember when McFerrin was in Austria to perform concert for europe as a conducter. Viennese Blood for instance. It was really awesome in my opinion even if I wasn't there but I saw it on TV.

  • I couldn't have said it better, I mean the whole dance music thing is so true, I never found words to describe it but here it is this guy who finally says it"

  • This is absolutely amazing....as someone who also plays Bach and sings as the front man of a rock band, I can't even BEGIN to imagine how challenging it is to SING BACH.

Bach keeps you on your toes, as a musician. He forces you to think as you play. I can't imagine the concentration needed to do something like what Bobby did. It's just awesome :D

  • WOW. When I first saw this I kind of laughed. The guy is going to sing Bach? but wow, he really is talented. I think to sing Bach requires you to be audacious. Good for him.

  • yes!!!!!! woops I just ate all my pretzels watching this.

  • hahahah its a black version of my music teacher!! love ya bobby

  • I bet hes got some maad beat box skillz...lol!

  • 1:52 PRLA PRLA PRLA! :D

  • this man has mastered music he ;ives on a level most will never know wow

  • American idol you can sing?!?!?!simon cowell; you have a bit of a voice like a baroque Instrument.

  • hickeye and tiuric77,two of you should indeed hit the comedy stage, lol!

  • And he seems such a kind person!

  • Didn't Bobby McFerrin fall down all those stairs in Family Guy! That was awesome! ahahahahahahahahah

  • yeah, but what that got to do with this?

  • Nothing it was just plan funny.

  • yaman

  • Bobby genious!

  • I love you bobby McFerrin

  • he really is a genius

  • this isn't "some dude", This is an amazing musician. I think it 's part of Bach's musical genius that his music can be interpreted in so many ways and still retain its beauty

  • sorry tiuric 77...i know your post is 4 months old, but your ignorance has no time limit. Thank God western art music is moving further away from people with your mentality every day.

  • So are you a musician?

I like bobby and he is great at using his voice. But singing the notes of bach is not difficult like everyone here seems to be making out to be. Going bee boo dee doo bee boo bee is not amazing at all. But if that's what floats your boat I could throw a taborine down the stairs and record the sounds for you.

  • I am a musician (who studies Bach)...not that that matters. Anyone can hear that this is beautiful and requires immense talent.

If all you hear is "bee boo dee doo" than I'm sorry.

  • Hey, man...I'm not the one who needs to be "impressed" by every piece of music I hear in order to enjoy it. I'm not the one who cuts down what another musician is doing just because I'm capable of doing the same thing. I'm not the one accusing everyone who likes Bobby McFerrins' interpretations of Bach of being naive and musically illiterate.

THAT, tiuric77, is the behavior of a "pretentious tool"

I'm sorry I woke you from your self-satisfied slumber on this page. Please don't respond.

  • Really got you going with that didn't I.

    Insecure people are hilarious.

  • Overly secure people are pretty funny too!

Maybe we should start a comedy duo...

  • You play piano I'll be the dancing monkey.

I mean you are studying bach after all.

  • Dancing monkey, eh?

so you sing Bach AND like to dance?

That's what that hack Bobby McFerrin was talking about...

You two are like one in the same!

  • I don't remember calling him a Hack. hehe

I love his vocal base lines. Have you ever heard him sing Just a little while longer? He sings it with a choir and is incredible.

  • You mean the spiritual?

Haven't heard him sing it, but I believe it's amazing.

  • Yes. Actually the song is called Hold on, yes it is a spiritual. He hits some highs and some lows that are pretty soulful.

  • God, you're an ignorant little rube, aren't you?

  • I don't think i am. I just like Bobby McFerrin a lot and felt compelled to defend him a few months ago...can't imagine how that warrants your attack, DeschetSpam.

  • @hickeye

And if all you hear is someone only talking about "bee boo dee doo" than I'm sorry for you too for you miss the intent discussion on pulse and rhythm.

  • are you aware of the context of that comment you replied to?

  • @hickeye

I see.... My sincere apologies. I am definitely man enough to admit that I saw your comment and got excited and jumped the gun.

  • @hickeye Bach is famous for his counterpoint. One singer can't sing counterpoint.

  • @tiuric, obviously, Mr. Mcferrin's music is way over your head. This is not an insult, Dear. For instance, I am old and I just don't "get" some rap singers and their music. Young people say that it is genius, in some cases. That is not what I hear. I just hear cursing and poor grammar. Its like: some people like a 40 oz and others like champagne. Bobby is champagne, at least in my old a** opinion! LOL

  • @tiuric77 once again I know your post is more than a year old, but wow... you are an asshole. can't you see that bobby mcferrin appreciates bach just as much as you and is willing to put his own spin on it despite the criticism of fools like you. maybe he's not a genius, but I don't think you can argue the fact that the guy has an incredible voice. feel free to show a little respect to other musicians. especially ones that are actually accomplished and not just a hack like you obviously are.

  • @FFloppyhat you're right, but YES, he IS a genius.

  • Wow, I didn't realize Bobby was so on point. Pretty amazing rendition.

  • what song is Bobby singing?

  • The Bach a minor violin concerto 1st movement I believe.

  • He also sang the last movement. Both excelent.... It would have been awesome if he would have sang the slow movement...

  • this is uplifting classic music , yeah

  • more and more they all are able to discover about bach these days

  • @ehmatus Bach is eternal, i discovered him in the late 60's and still am at a 30% of his work... As you say, with time everybody will appreciate his genius.
