  • This is the first song of theirs that I ever heard, and still to this day, remains my favorite.

  • @ralphyboy25 first song, huh? Not knowing the lyrics surprises me....could always ask our master interpreter....

  • @laelamarie1 The lyrics for this song are available at the following video:

    watch?v=Wg1gdso23OY

Of course, we could ask our Finn friend to validate the translation. ;)

  • similar to indian music....

  • @Daideepya I think you know the indian harp played mainly in Paraguay , don1t you ?It1s really a little similar

  • I just listened to one album. I Hope I Can Find more about Loituma, it's a very good quartet of folk

  • it's not "L"evan Polkka, it's called "i"evan Polkka

  • i always thought that timo and sari were in love but this pic makes me think differntly(timo is the guy, sari has the glasses, hanni marie is the girl standing with a violin, and anita is the one with timo.)

  • @rainbowpeach56 I didn't know you could draw conclusions regarding love interests merely from posed photographs.

  • the 5 ppl who disliked this video theyre kanteles BLEW UP

  • Kiitos!

  • Anita is so beautiful with such a beautiful voice! <3

    Love from Canada!

  • This is good music but it kinda makes me a lil sleepy

  • Greetings from Philippines :D

    So pretty~

    Are they still active?

  • @pichapichapie AFAIK they are all active musicians with their own projects. Seems though that they still occasionally get together and do a gig as Loituma - at least they did a couple of years ago.

  • @pichapichapie philippines is cool :3 i have 3 filipino friends theyre really sweet!! greetings from polish america

  • greetings from greece

  • @PaulinaPrzybysz Just found an answer!

Ne varsin valehtelevat, (Those indeed tell lies)

tuiki tyhjeä panevat, (are saying just empty words)

jotka soittoa sanovat, (those who judge the playing)

    arvoavat kanteletta (claiming the kantele)

Väinämöisen veistämäksi, (being crafted by Väinämöinen)

Jumalan kuvoamaksi, (woven by the God)

hauin suuren hartioista, (out of a great pike's shoulders)

veen koiran koukkuluista. (from the crooked bones of a water dog)

  • @PaulinaPrzybysz

Soitto on suruista tehty, (But no, music is made from grief)

murehista muovaeltu: (and moulded from sorrow)

koppa päivistä kovista, (-- its belly out of hard days)

emäpuu ikipoloista, (its soundboard from endless woes)

kielet kiusoista kerätty, (its strings gathered from torments)

naulat muista vastuksista. (and its pegs from other ills.)

  • @PaulinaPrzybysz

Sentä ei soita kanteleeni, (Therefore my kantele will not play)

ei iloitse ensinkänä, (nor will rejoice at all)

soitto ei soita suosioksi, (music will not play to please)

laske ei laatuista iloa, (give off the right sort of joy)

kun on huolista kuvattu, (for it was fashioned from worries)

    murehista muovaeltu. (moulded from sorrow)

[I'm sorry, it was too long to post it in one piece.]

  • This is just amazing, think I could listen to this all day long.

  • The song is beautiful ^^

    Please, could you put subtitles?

  • Very nice from Russia Empire

  • @PavelDubrovsky lol there is no such country as "Russia Empire" bro :) There is only Russian Federation

  • la de lentes parece retrasada mental

  • Thank you so much for posting Kantelar, kiitos, got this cd from my mom who was from suomi... Loituma has made beatifull music, the lyrics are poems from Kalevalla right?.. I agree with dolgorsurendagvadorj... Hyväa

  • oh thank god!!! so they did other songs! thank you for posting!

  • I was looking for more music than just Ievan polka. I really like this band. Greetings from Louisiana, United States.

I find this very soothing. Thank you for uploading.

  • Mukavan luontevasti kehittyvä biisi.

  • How uplifting. Listening in Gallup, New Mexico, USA.

  • Why is it so hard to find this album (Things of Beauty) for sale online? There's one copy on amazon, which is on sale for over £60, which is 96USD! Are there any reputable Nordic companies which deliver worldwide?

  • @Conway79 Have you tried the other Amazons?

  • @Conway79 Digelius Music in Helsinki (digelius . com) seems to have both their records, and I know they sell also outside Finland. However for some reason or another they have no webshop- utilities on the pages - instead you are supposed to phone them or send an email.

I'm a happy customer myself, but as I'm living in Finland, I don't know the details about the international orders.

  • @Conway79 As of today, Amazon (US) has "Things of Beauty" available for $13 USD. By your profile I am assuming you are in the UK. I have purchased several CDs from Amazon UK, for delivery to the US - and I have always been pleasantly surprised that I am never hit up for any high (out of the ordinary) shipping charges.

  • @ralphyboy25 Thanks, bought it! :-D

  • I love traditional song, and this quartet have beautiful harmony. thx for uploading it :)

  • wow amazing, greetings from mars

  • WOW....

never heard a voice like that

    greeting form PAKISTAN!!!!

  • LOITUMA is great!! I love it s sounds ,especially the levan polka, it s great, greetings from Mexico City

  • Is the lead singer for this song Sanna Kurki-Suonio?

  • @ralphyboy25

I'm sure it is Anita Lehtola singing.

Guess Sanna Kurki-Suonio wouldn't appear in Loituma...

  • @MsEkiam1 - Hello. From Wikipedia, I found out that Sanna was a founding member of Loituma, and that she is credited with this song. I do not own the CD "Things of Beauty", so I can not confirm who is credited with the version that is on the CD. To my ear, it sounded like Sanna's voice. Either way, Sanna or Anita, they both have beautiful voices......

  • @ralphyboy25 You're right. She has been a founding member. But I didn't know that she was actually singing on the CDs or at least at Things of Beauty. They have quite similar voices!!

  • @MsEkiam1 Well I don't know for sure if it is Sanna singing, or if she just wrote the song. I am just taking a guess. After listening to this song some more, and comparing it to some other Loituma songs....................... I am thinking it is in fact Anita singing.......... Perhaps someone who knows for sure can comment..

  • @ralphyboy25

Hm, yes, after listening I think it should be Anita.

  • How to find more Loituma on youtube?

    I'm tired of levan polkka.

I hope Hungarians are welcomed in Finland.

  • Try to get both of their albums: "Things of Beauty" and the progressive "In the Moonlight. You will not be sorry as you have to hear them in good quality. I do not see why Hungarians would not be welcomed in Finland? They are generally welcoming people by nature, a little stiff and serious sometimes but great people.

  • Please still watch my channel. I'll add more Loituma songs in a future :)

  • OK thanks!

I got the album already. It is surprisingly good (I prefer metal)

  • You can look in myspace too. They have own page there. Good luck

  • @DolgorsurenDagvadorj

    You are allways welcome, systerfolks!

  • kaunista tämä on.
