I think sometimes Dexter is too harsh to himself. He thinks that he's a monster, but despite of his lack of feelings he always kind to others and help if he can (which is not really a "normal" person). Also, he saved a kid in s1 and insisted to stay when he was in the Trinity killers home on Thankgiving trying to protect them (which wasn't a necessary step to disguise himself normal). I think Dexter's is good as much as he able.

@GenderBender201 Yes, you right. But his childhood damage makes Dexter like this, so it's not his fault. Harry taught a code and the way to never got caught. But when Harry saw what Dexter done, he couldn't bear it, and no matter how many secrets revealed from Harry, Dexter still follow this code. In the earlier 5th season, he accidently saved a girl from his victim and his Harry-side wanted to kill her as a witness, he done everything to avoid killing her.

The music for Dexter is perfect This song was perfect for the end of the episode, It's suppose to show that things are starting to work out for Dexter and that he's gonna finally be free to live his life with Rita and the kids, since Trinity is dead, but in the end it turns out otherwise, so it's a happy song but also forshadowing in a way.
