i got a collie her name is Mot. she is great with herding geese.. i also have a irish setter that i hunt duck with.. hes dumb as all get it out.. found him sleeping in the field one day on a hunt.. his name is Nacho.. i love em both.
no joke, border collies have to be the smartest dogs ever. my boy Blue is was only trained on thing, DON'T POOP OR PEE IN THE HOUSE! all the other tricks like fetching, pickin up his toys (and putin them back in his toy bin when he's done with em), helpin rangle loose chickens, never steal food, find my cell phone when it rings, and plenty of other things (includin the basics: sit, stay, lie down). i dont know how, but he just caught on i guess. wouldnt trade him for the world :)

It's important to know that this dog's are NOT responsible - OWNERS are. The dogs are victims. 75% of bad breeds are considered bad because of the ignorant owners who chose them. If it was popular for some drug dealing dog fighter to have a poodle all poodles would be considered evil. Don't generalize and blame the owner, always, not the dog. 600 dogs are killed in EACH state EACH month. It's the cruel owners who should be gassed.
A friend of mine has a cat they spent $900 on and it was the dumbest most useless thing ever put on the planet. I got my BC for $100 and it is the best dog I have ever owned or known. And it is 10^2^2^10000 times better than that stupid cat.
I love my Border Collie! She's so sweet and she's so smart! Plus she's always on the go...3 1/2 years old but still has the energy & enthusiasm of a 6 month old puppy :)

I've got a border/Samoyed mix. She's really high energy but she's really loyal to the family and a great watch dog. Both are herder dogs so it's really funny how she herds smaller dogs and even kids. She's kind of bossy with other animals, especially younger ones, but she's never bitten anyone.
i have a border collie she is crazy and hyper but she is not tied because we live in the woods by a beach and she wont run away . so she can run all day. but she loves chasing the waves lol :)

sounds like a dalmation from your description, but if some people say she isn't purebred (and a dalmation is pretty recognisable) then there must be something. I am pretty good at knowing dog breeds....so if you put some pics.a vid on youtube, message me ;- )
@fairfieldftballcaleb you know you can take your dog a dna test to determine if its a purebreed and will tell you what breed it is :) Talk to your vet, I do not know if your vet has it or not. It is worth it to know what kind breed it is
It's like a hyper person with OCD. They are great on a farm or with an athletic person where they can get adequate excercise. A housepet this is not! They need lots of hard work to do, otherwise they'll tear up your house.

its sad the amount of collies that end up at our local dog rescue, people get them expecting a soft toy i think, when they realise the cute little puppy they bought now needs tons of attention, long walks, regular play fights, intensive training for the first 2 years and a stable family structure they feel equals in, then its throw em away down the dogs home, the more i see it the more i feel sickened by our "throw away" attitude alot have nowadays. wankers.

It will give you such an insight into them and are full of good advice on what you can expect to be getting into if you decide to get one! I did and im picking my BC up in 3 weeks - can't wait... but then i live near the coast and can dedicate a LOT of time to training and having fun with my little girl when she arrives! seriously bud - breed book! they are cheap + full of good info 2 see if a BC is right for u

My dog is half border collie and half Alsatian and it is very intelligent compared to other dogs I have had. It does look a lot more like a Border Collie than an Alsatian, its a weird mix but a really clever dog, like if you open a door it never just bolts through like most dogs, it waits until you tell it to.

they are high energy and can destroy stuff if bored - but they are my no. 1 fav breed! i would recommend to anybody who has a bit of spare time and a garden bigger than a pea-size ;- )

There is a nice BC at the humane society (1 year old) I always go take him out for two hour walks. Poor guy shouldn't be locked up all the time. Wish i could adopt him but i've got a 12 year old american eskimo that wouldn't like it very much.
I had my border collie max for 18 yrs, we had to put him down just the other day when he was tipping over and not able to get back up on his own. He was the BEST and we will miss him so much!!!

This breed is incredible. If I were superstitious I would think they were either demigods or demons. They are so intelligent, so energetic and when they stare at you, you feel like they're reading your mind. Creepy awesomeness.

@benny266698 I had to put Benny my 16 y.o. Border Collie mix down on May 22.. For two yrs he was on medication to help the muscular degeneration in his hind legs. He was such a brave boy.. never complained.. loved his long, slow walks everyday.. He was in pain, lost weight and could no longer get up and stay up on his own.. I cry every day that he's gone.
@DivineMoments I know how you feel. My Border Collie, Quincy, died three weeks ago from kidney failure caused by a leptospirosis infection. He was only ten.
We hoped that we could bring him up to our cottage for one last weekend (he loved the place) before we put him down and buried him there, but he died the day we came up. He seemed alright earlier in the day, but he declined quickly in the evening. Mom's a nurse, so she was able to give him drugs to keep him from dying in pain.

@rebelsouljaz petshops do not breed purebred dogs....they breed with mutt which thats NOT good! Also petshops puppy often has health problems which you will end up paying more for vet bills. Petshop are very greedy and they only care about the money, not the dogs.
If you wanted a mixed breed, go to a animal shelter!!!!! they have many of them.
@scenexbam There is nothing wrong with breeding with mutts. Mutts are generally healthier than purebreeds. The border collie is such a healthy, long lived dog because they aren't breed for color/markings, which is stupid. The AKC has destroyed plenty of dog breeds because of this.
@rebornmoo Thats not true, when u have a mutt, u don't know what kind health problems that mutt has, purebred are more healthier because u know the family background, what illness this purebred dog don't have and purebred breeders don't breed dog who has one or two illness or bad problems. Mutt, people don't care if this mutt has bad hips and they breed it so they make quick cash. ? @scenexbam in the long run mixing breeds will create healthier dogs, think about it you are just inbreeding the pedigrees and narrowing the gene pool.
@rebornmoo I know right, friggin AKC. And that whole mindset lead to the breeding of "teacups" in other breeds which while adorable as all hell, are just time bombs when it comes to health problems.. and whats crazy is its now spreading to non-dogs, now theres bloody micro pigs.

Petshops are in it for money, and they give a bad name to breeders. No responsible breeder would sell to a pet shop, with all my puppies an owner would have to contact me if they were thinking of giving it up. You will never see one of my dogs in a shelter.

My Whippet mix had puppies with a pure bred Border Collie.
I kept one of the puppies.
Nioh is a pain in the butt.
Now that she's 4 months we're starting the hardcore training.
I've never been much of an early start person with dogs. At that time they should be taught how to at least sit and stay, walk on and off a leash, and not to make mess in the house. :3
@RavenBlaze some border collies have their tails docked i docked my border collie because it gets in the way. so not all border collies have their tails.
My BC's tail was docked because we got her in Arizona, where a long tail could get snagged easily in cactus spines. So I can understand why they would dock it in certain situations
@xistencex working Yes i agree. Dogs in the past pulled carts and the tail WAS a nuisance. Nowdays though, there is no reason for a dog to have his tail cut.

My dog is half border collie and half Alsatian and it is very intelligent compared to other dogs I have had. It does look a lot more like a Border Collie than an Alsatian, its a weird mix but a really clever dog, like if you open a door it never just bolts through like most dogs, it waits until you tell it to.

they are high energy and can destroy stuff if bored - but they are my no. 1 fav breed! i would recommend to anybody who has a bit of spare time and a garden bigger than a pea-size ;- )

There is a nice BC at the humane society (1 year old) I always go take him out for two hour walks. Poor guy shouldn't be locked up all the time. Wish i could adopt him but i've got a 12 year old american eskimo that wouldn't like it very much.

I had my border collie max for 18 yrs, we had to put him down just the other day when he was tipping over and not able to get back up on his own. He was the BEST and we will miss him so much!!!

This breed is incredible. If I were superstitious I would think they were either demigods or demons. They are so intelligent, so energetic and when they stare at you, you feel like they're reading your mind. Creepy awesomeness.

@benny266698 I had to put Benny my 16 y.o. Border Collie mix down on May 22.. For two yrs he was on medication to help the muscular degeneration in his hind legs. He was such a brave boy.. never complained.. loved his long, slow walks everyday.. He was in pain, lost weight and could no longer get up and stay up on his own.. I cry every day that he's gone.

@DivineMoments I know how you feel. My Border Collie, Quincy, died three weeks ago from kidney failure caused by a leptospirosis infection. He was only ten.
We hoped that we could bring him up to our cottage for one last weekend (he loved the place) before we put him down and buried him there, but he died the day we came up. He seemed alright earlier in the day, but he declined quickly in the evening. Mom's a nurse, so she was able to give him drugs to keep him from dying in pain.

@rebelsouljaz petshops do not breed purebred dogs....they breed with mutt which thats NOT good! Also petshops puppy often has health problems which you will end up paying more for vet bills. Petshop are very greedy and they only care about the money, not the dogs.
If you wanted a mixed breed, go to a animal shelter!!!!! they have many of them.

@scenexbam There is nothing wrong with breeding with mutts. Mutts are generally healthier than purebreeds. The border collie is such a healthy, long lived dog because they aren't breed for color/markings, which is stupid. The AKC has destroyed plenty of dog breeds because of this.

@rebornmoo Thats not true, when u have a mutt, u don't know what kind health problems that mutt has, purebred are more healthier because u know the family background, what illness this purebred dog don't have and purebred breeders don't breed dog who has one or two illness or bad problems. Mutt, people don't care if this mutt has bad hips and they breed it so they make quick cash. ? LOLOL u make me laugh...so u want a yorkie mixed with lab breed? hahah its good thing they limited the breed

@rebelsouljaz Responsible breeders actually evaluate potential owners, and generally you can see the tests that were done on them, hips, elbows, collie eye, border collie collapse . . Petshops are in it for money, and they give a bad name to breeders. No responsible breeder would sell to a pet shop, with all my puppies an owner would have to contact me if they were thinking of giving it up. You will never see one of my dogs in a shelter.

My Whippet mix had puppies with a pure bred Border Collie.
I kept one of the puppies.
Nioh is a pain in the butt.
Now that she's 4 months we're starting the hardcore training.
I've never been much of an early start person with dogs. At that time they should be taught how to at least sit and stay, walk on and off a leash, and not to make mess in the house. :3
BC is totally a cool breed.

My BC's tail was docked because we got her in Arizona, where a long tail could get snagged easily in cactus spines. So I can understand why they would dock it in certain situations

@xistencex working Yes i agree. Dogs in the past pulled carts and the tail WAS a nuisance. Nowdays though, there is no reason for a dog to have his tail cut.
