As I studied Japanese, I was taught as a "monotonic language" As I am studying Chinese, a "crazy-tonic" language, I've realized that there are many words in Japanese that can change the meaning by saying it a different tone.

蜂　vs　八　－The first one sound more monotonic, while HA is emphasized when saying the number eight.

Utteiru- being sold - sounds more monotonic

Utteiru- to shoot - sounds just like you said!
