  • nice, thanks for the video! My brakes squeak every time I let go of that brake pedal, it's been driving me crazy for so long... finally getting the drums replaced, hopefully it all goes well!

  • So I followed all the steps but when I try to put on my drum it don't fit. Also everything is loose and not tight. It seems as of the shoes are expanded outwards or something. Any suggestions. I also thought it had to do with the wheel cylinder so I bought a new one n installed it.

  • @Biohazerd2012 yeah it's got to do with your star wheel adjuster thing. You must not have done what I was talking about at 8:08 in the video.

  • thanks for making this video man... it really helped me out with my 97 civic drum repair because I didn't know shit about drums..... gotta love the "dikes" lol and also gotta say drum brakes are the worst invention ever!

  • Haha you're awesome dude such a big help.

  • good video but why do you have your text parts just flashing for 2 seconds? nobody can read those that fast and you gotta keep pausing the video to read it

  • Thanks for your video. It was definitely helpful.

  • on drum brake when u have the car rear on jackstand n the car's on park with the e- brake down n have someone step on the brake would u still be able to turn the wheels with your hands? OR IT SUPPOSE TO LOCK UP? i had people saying that u should still b able to spin it wit lil drag and other say no the wheel should lock up once step on so i'm confuse.if u or anyone know lmk...thks

  • @fuckthaworldz For future viewers (i know it's a little late for you now) you want it adjusted so that you can spin the drum approximately one full rotation.

  • @HondaHowTo1 thks for the replied...i just left it ever since.my problem was what i stated i did adjust the star key like u say but fell drag n burning smell does it suppose t be like that at first?cause i went back n adjusted to where the tire scatch lil when u spin it n didnt fell drag or smell but some how the wheels turn while i have someone step on the brakes when cars on jack stand..

  • One thing you may want to consider is resurfacing the drums, especially if you let the shoes wear down to rivets, which would have scored the drum.

  • Hi..I have followed the same process. Everything seems to be ok until now, when I brake, the steering wheel shakes. It shakes hardly when I break suddenly.

Could this be the rotors? It looks pretty bad and I know I need to replace them. Just making sure if that is the case and not anything else. Thanks.

  • my drum is so rusted out I keep hitting it, but it won't come off

  • @kosmosleha "my drum is so rusted out I keep hitting it, but it won't come off" I'm sure this won't help you now, seeing as you commented three months ago, but for others with problems getting the drum off, see those two little threaded holes not attaching anything on the front side of the drum? Go get two 8 x 1.25 bolts and thread them on in there. They press against the inner hub, pushing the drum off of the hub. Worked for me in no time!

  • @DynamicUnreality Just to add for future viewers, any 10mm bolt on your honda will work for those to little threaded holes on the drum.

  • Good Job,

One thing, the Drum has female threads to put bolt in - to screw in that will allow the drum to push off and break lose from the hub when a hammer fails.

  • I ended up getting one of those little hooks they sell at autoparts to put that spring back in place. SN: Hardest part

  • Great video - very thorough, although - sort of gave me some Max Headroom flashbacks from the 80s (bc of the editing!). Seriously though, nice job.

  • towards the end of this vid you wrote that the brake system is pneumatic. civic brakes are all hydraulic! i assume that was just a typo but it might confuse people.

gotta love the west Virginia speed wrench though!! haha

  • @midnightbreaks yeah I never noticed that, but yeah that was an accident haha. Thanks for pointing that out though I'll annotate it.

  • @HondaHowTo1 just did my first set of civic drum brakes. i'm used to doing brake jobs on semi-trucks so this was on a totally different scale. went pretty smooth though. thanks for the helpful vid

  • A good Mechanic friend show me how to chage brake shoes.. It wasn't that hard if got the right tools for it.. The spring will be the hardest something. After changing the brake shoes drum you might want to resurface it, but if you like too..

  • you should never take off the entire bolt without loosening the other bolts and when you do it you have to loose crosswise.

  • @cmcfernandes Sorry you've been misinformed, that is not true.

  • @HondaHowTo1 alright just saying what more than one technician have been telling me so all it matters it works lol thanks for the video

  • @cmcfernandes sorry for being so harsh in that first comment i removed, but yeah I've worked in two different shops, one being a Toyota dealership, and have never seen or heard of that before. Everyone working in the field uses an impact gun which wouldn't allow you to simply loosen a lug nut.

  • HAHAHA! West Virgina Speed Wrench! Thanks for the video.
