  • "We watch the lightning crack over cane fields....." I lived in Cairns for over 2 years and never once saw lightning crack over cane fields. Guess I just wasn't in the right place at the right time.

  • proud to b a aussie... except the way this place is run shame on u goverment...moving to u.s.a

  • This is Sex.

  • AWW still looking for the vid from the 80's which reminded me of growing up in northern nsw - the air so thick you could eat it, the towering canefields (hey i was a kid) , the spectacular cracking tropical storms ... maybe it doesn't exist - is it just what my memory created from the song??? This clip is nice but ummm - a bit sanitized .... I can't believe i've been on here 4 HOURS!! LOOKING FOR IT! hehe

  • @seekinside The original clip was them playing live on the tv show Rock Arena. This clip was made in the early 90s by a guy in Perth. And a more recent clip was made 5 years ago! So unless you're thinking of the Coke ad which used the song in the mid-late 80s (which may well be it!) the clip you're thinking of doesn't exist - except the one your memory created :-)

  • Oh YEAH! Lovin it. This song is TOTALLY RAD. You can almost smell the aussie air through the very SOUNDS in this song. I love our country.

  • @JCUproductions

Yeah I feel the heat in the air with this song! Incredible!

  • Australia is very diverse. lots of beaches, desert, forests, hills, snow fields, along with the drought and bushfires and floods...yet its our land...and as long as we are allowed to keep our politicians honest and moral by the democratic vote, God is on our side.

  • "Waltzing Matilda"...a charming song about a thief who commits suicide when he is about to be caught...always amuses me when people wnat it for a National Anthem. Almost as funny as people who say "Every Step You Take" by the Police is a "love song"...have they ever listened to the words of these songs? Doubt it...

  • hey- what other country has a story like that as a candidate for the national anthem?- thats what makes australia unique. its the larrakin, survivor, anti establishment, freedom, live off the land of great bounty mentality. i cant think of a more appropriate song.

  • ' "waltzing Matilda"...a charming song about a thief who commits suicide when he is about to be caught...a '

    from wiki ...

"The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker making a drink of tea at a bush camp and stealing a sheep to eat. When the sheep's owner arrives with three police officers to arrest the worker, he drowns himself in a small watering hole and goes on to haunt the site."

    almooost ...

  • Why does an idiot scientology wannabe care about this video? Robyonder is one complete IDIOT.

  • i think the second verse could remove "cane fields" and replace it with "cane toads"...would remove the repetition and make it even more "real"..

  • LOL

  • the only bit i dont get is the humidity part...oh and the cane fields...not much of that 'round here...more like "and the red dust, we breath, and all the salt bush we see..."...unfortunately i remember when this song was released..does that mean im old?

    lol.

  • THIS IS AN AUSTRALIAN LEGEND.

I first heard this song in a Irish pub in England 2 years ago whren my family went to england for a holiday, and the barman said "Are you guys Australian" and we said yes and he went into the backroom, and got out this CD, whacked it into the CD player and played it, and the whole pub enjoyed it.

    Awesome song!!!

  • Luv this song!

  • Am sure all the Perth ppl recognize where the clip was filmed :) not many cane fields round here lol.

  • As an Auussie, i really love that song! This song should be used for Australia tourism for the world.

  • Anyone wanting to hear this fantastic song live - jump on board GANGgajang's mailing list to find out where and when they're playing and other news! Write to me at lisa @ ganggajang. com. Cheers...

  • This must be one of the best one hit wonders of all time!

  • New National Anthem...yes?...no? Maybe? Just throwin it out there.

Lightning crack ove rthe cane field...reminds me of the drive up the Bruce HW from Brizzy to Townsville.

  • Absolutely!!!

  • U mean about our National anthem or the drive up the Bruce Highway?

And I'd just like to add, with the national anthem, it's either this or Thunderstruck aye?

  • Both - I'm from Queensland and I love Sounds of Then and Ganggajang!

  • Top notch mate. what part of The Best State ya from?

  • Whilst its an awesome song - and does represent Australia really well, i think its to "pop" to be used as the national anthum, sayign that get rid of Advance Australia Fair, and replace it with Waltzing Matilda :D

  • Why would we want to replace advance australia fair with a song about a theif? why would we want to strengthen that sterotype when around 50% of the country nowdays cant trace and convict heratige? i for example came from Austria

  • this is Australia............ rocks

  • one of the best songs of the 80's for me

  • Ganggajang rules!!!

  • Ever since I first saw the movie Mad Wax I've wanted to see this.Excellent.
