  • This took more than a little nerve =oD

  • Love the part where the two chicks sneak by him then start running.

  • @Ready4Freddy and then he proceeds to chase them. soooo good

  • Lol couldnt stop laughing. That was awesome! I think my fav part was when he was being chased by the car. =D That totally made my day.

  • this was the BEST show on Tv all week. i couldn't wait for Saturday to roll around so i could see Bandstand. Barry u rock dude.

  • tre404@ - here's what i got from wikipedia: "Bandstand originally used "High Society" by Artie Shaw as its theme song, but by the time the show went national, it had been replaced by various arrangements of "Bandstand Boogie" composed by Charles Albertine, including the big-band version performed by Les Elgart" - if it was called something else than Bandstand Boogie, do you know what it was? Wiki could have it wrong, and could be corrected...

  • It's such a shame American Bandstand isn't on the air anymore. Loved watching this show every Saturday morning. This brought back memories.

  • @gladfan1989 .... Yes, but if it were, imagine the "talent" that would be "performing!" I shudder to think... best that "Bandstand" lives in our memories as a program that showcased mostly GOOD music. I think it ended when it was supposed to, in 1989. Clark had turned over hosting duties to others anyway... and it ain't "Bandstand" without Mr. Clark.

  • The Tune is actually called "Bandstand Boogie", written in 1952 by Charles Albertine , and found on youtube by the Les Elgart big band, playing from the 40s into the 60s. Barry Manilow then collaborated with Bruce Sussman and wrote the lyrics, which heavily referred to the show and it's great elements - like "...it's got a great beat and i can dance to it", and probably for the first time included - "I really dig the lyrics - it's all about ME on TV"....

  • @bluzdawg ... It wasn't called "Bandstand Boogie" until Manilow and Sussman got their hands on it in 1975. The last part of your comment is fuzzy... not sure what you're on about there, but... (I think you're referring to the lyric, "my baby's swoonin' ... in front of all of TV.")

  • @Tre404 - oh, and the reference to "ME on TV" was about several places in the lyrics, that offered insight into the situation where a person was seen on national television "..mom and dad are so proud...", "..the phones are ringin'.. "; the tune is littered with remarks about performing - "...handstand, grandstand..." , and at the end, "...I'm IN, I'm ON..". and many others.

  • @bluzdawg ...You're Wrong, Pal. The original Columbia record #40180, released in 1954, clearly states, "Bandstand Boogie", it is also called that on the 1955 Les Elgart Band of the Year Lp, which I own. "When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba" was the original flipside. Incidently, I despise Manilow's version of this song.

  • LOVE THE DANCING THIS VIDEO MADE ME LAUGH and also just made me smile all day

  • Love <3

  • I love this guy he is so "Jerry Lewis" like and I love Jerry..this made me LOL and good choice of music

  • I love this old stuff!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • I love him, whoever he is!

  • im dancing the swing to this song i love it!!!!!!

  • I almost died laughing! This was GREAT!! You should find a way to send this to Barry Manilow. After watching some of his concert clips, it's evident he's got a great sense of humor. He would probably get a real kick out of it!

  • man i have'nt seen dancing like thta since 1957 how come we can't cut loose like that naymore even though it sometimes hurts to cut loose like that i would still do so given a real chance and how come all those other peoples just walk on bu\y like they don't see this guy hmm weird!

  • I remember dancing around to this at my uncle's house when I was younger.

  • ministry of silly walks, anyone?

  • I LOVE this song! Not a big fan of the dancin', but I gotta give 'im props for bein' brave enough! It's a wonder no one called the funny farm to take 'im away!

  • i sang this at my graduation..

  • This show went through two generations in my family. My mom watched when it was in Philadelphia and I watched when it was in Hollywood. There'll never be another show like it.

  • i wish i could dance like that

  • i wish i could dance like that

  • Such fun. Really enjoyed it! Thanks for posting it. I have to say I was surprised at all the indifference of the people. Only guy I saw who got a kick out of it was the dude on the motorcycle. If I was there, there would have been two people digging it.

  • This is the absolute funniest thing I've seen in a long time. This is AWESOME! This guy is awesome.

  • wow, so creative. but odd

  • This video is HECKA funny!

  • my chorus is singing this :)

  • Did you do this in Salt Lake? Couldn't help but notice the Franklin Covey and the Nordstrom. . . .

  • im dancing to this song

  • Cool Vid

  • LOVE IT! that dude brought tears to my eyes laughing

  • I could remember the first 10 seconds as like the music that Dick Clark says something like,"One week from today,we're back here with Donna Summer next week. And don't forget to watch for me on the "$20,000 Pryamid during the week,as well. For now,Dick Clark,...so long!"

  • Man, thats some great dancing!

  • Cute haha, My dad Les Elgart wrote the lyric's to this song. Barry wrote the music.... I love it, alway's will!!!!!!

  • "I like my girl, but i love American Bandstand" kinda sums it up....

  • when was this vid taken???

  • i have barry manilows phone number. not sure if its really his though

  • I have always loved this song, this video is a bit silly but it is worth having to watch to listen to this song.

  • DON CORNELIUS AND SOUL TRAIN

  • well, really it's the expressions that people have that makes you laugh LOL. Good job guy..

  • i am singing this in chorus

  • i like the song but, the moves are kinda stupid

  • Loved it! So much fun! Only critique is the sibg's called "Bandstand Boogie" not "American Bandstand" so you might miss some viewers.

  • omg u need to make videos on how to do ur dances!!!!!!!! i could impress my friends with ur awesome moves!!!1

  • My dad Les Elgart wrote Bandstand Boogie, for Dick Clark's show, later Barry wrote the word's , I still love it !!!!!!!!!!.......

  • @TexasAdmirer It's funny, I was born in 1986, and the show ended three years later. Having never seen an episode until the VH1 reruns in '96, I could still hear your dad's version of the theme and recognize it right away. I guess it's one of those themes where even if you NEVER seen the show, you can immediately go "Bandstand Theme". Your dad definitely wrote one of the classics.

  • you know he had to be enjoying himself doing this. You cant help but enjoy yourself!

  • This is actually called Bandstand Boogie on Manilow's CD. He plays and sings it with Donny & Marie Osmond at the end of the video of him with them I put up here.

  • this is where i learned to dance. i spent many Sat afternoons watch Bandstand. Barry Manilow is great, even now. i hope to go to Vegas and see him live before i die

  • LOL.

  • who is this dude ! took a lot of guts to do this! LOL can these people here the music? Hes Great!

  • lolllllllllllll

  • Is he at Roosevelt Field mall on Long Island?

  • Oh man this shit is epic

  • Pokechoppah93- If I understand correctly , you are 15 years old. Also for being open to music to the past that helped shape the here & now. I also commend you for respecting yourself by standing up for what you like, even though you might get laughed at by other your age. I am a 47 yr male in Ks. I also listen to a lot of stuff that was made or remade before I was born. Even I still learn new things. Like the group that did the Shrek theme song was Smash Mouth, not Smash Mouth Pumpkins..lol

  • i love barry manilow and i love american bandstand. they were both huge parts of my growing up.

  • LOL...too funny!

  • Comment removed

  • This is a Jacked up video but I LOVE this song!!

  • I promise I would have been out there dancing with you...

  • Happy 66th Birthday Barry-June 17, 1943

  • hahaha!! This guy cracks me up! I love this song!! I remember watching bandstand as a kid.

  • Very good, My dad wrote this song, American Bandstand!!!!!!!

  • how could anyone not want to get silly with this guy? he is a trip!

  • your salutation to stupidity wins

  • That was really funny!

  • I LOVE this song....I love old music way more than that crap they call rap xDDDDD

My mom thinks it's weird for a 13 year old to like this :P

  • You're on the right track, kid. Keep your head on straight. :P I'm only 15. I love all Barry Manilow songs.. as well as Johnny Cash, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Conway Twitty, etc. I hate all the modern stuff, minus Alan Jackson and George Strait. They're the only real singers left. God bless them, and you.

  • Agree about all of the older music, and I would suggest some Chuck Berry, Dion, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin among others. But I also suggest some good newer bands like Trapt, Buckcherry, Chevelle, Charm City Devils, Black Robot, Rise Against, The Last Vegas and Them Crooked Vultures. There's still some good new music, it just doesn't get much radio time, so you have to really look for it.

  • I'd say this a bit of an insane video. it is the most unusual music video I have seen

  • heroes.

  • it's too funny!

  • The video is amusing at best. Your comments over there ---> make me want to ask why you even bothered if you hated this song and tv show so much?

And because you're probably much too young to know, the American Bandstand was around a LONG time before music video and Jay Leno were even thought of. Those "buffoons" as you call them were part of the entertainment and showed kids the latest dance crazes, at least back in the 1950s and 1960s.

  • The video is absolutely the funniest video I have seen in a long time. You have a great and fun imagination!!! Thanks for sharing your dancing and comic talents with the world. from, Darren

  • <3333333333

  • Damn, this dude has MASSIVE balls to make something like this. Good job. LOL!

  • Happy New Year to all you Barry Manilow fans.

  • LOL! Everyone keeps walking by one of two ways:

1: Like they never saw anything...

2: Like the guy's mentally retarded and they don't want to mess with him...

Awesome video, and I absolutely love the song.

  • He's lucky the guys in the white coats didn't come after him! I love the guy in the red cap, sitting on the motorcycle just sitting there watching him!

  • I LOVE THIS GUY!!! YOU ROCK DUDE!!!

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! FUCK YEA DUDE!

  • you have to love this guy!

how does he actually do that in public?

we arent doing this song for the performance, but it was on the CD that our teacher gave us to practice with. Ok so Rock around the clock next, ok ok like.... YEAH!

  • It really takes guts to dance like that in public.

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with American Bandstand. I'd rather have that any day than the snarky shows we have now. Thanks anyway though- it's nice to be able to hear the theme song again.

You look like you are ACTUALLY a good dancer.

I loved the part of car chasing you, or you chasing it.

I like your choice of settings and the way people just ignored you.
