the platform timing is one of the worst parts. You can kind of wait on the upper of the two by getting to the edge and hopping as it goes into the spikes.
You can jump on the left side of the second platform tvice, before next platform come and if you'll be good at timing, you will not be hit by spikes on the right.
@Tranceryl Yeah, the game keeps a good feeling of solitude, which is good for absorbing the player into the world. I'll admit I was a bit creeped out my first run through as well.
Hmm, alright. I don't know if it'd make for a good video but you can do a Debug mode run... Just press Delete, gives you infinite HP. But then again the game isn't as hard/fun as it's supposed to be and probably won't be as interesting to watch. Meh.
So what's the ending text? There's no way in hell I'm playing this thing just to find out, or for any reason really, but even if you don't bother to put the text in a video, what IS it?
I actually would have liked to see the rest of the ending text if it's not just credits. My curiosity gets the better of me, but I don't have the patience to run through the gauntlet.
You should try Cave Story (Dokutsu Monogatari) if you thought Holdover was good.
Imo Holdover is very lacking. It gave me the impression that the creator(s) just gave up halfway through the game development. There was minimal character/story development, minimal enemies/combat, and overuse of spikes and water.
Trust me, the ending text isn't so cool, it just gives the game a more incomplete feeling, I might post it up one day, but really, that picture is the only thing worth seeing.
Played Cave Story about 2 years ago, it was pretty fun, especially the hidden dungeon, just Holdover has an odd, short charm to it.
Yeah, the creator(s) seemed to have gotten lazy at some parts, but overall, its much better than most games being published these days = /.
I see, and well you know what I'm talking about when comparing the two.
I wouldn't know about Holdover being better than mainstream games overall, but it does have it's retro, risque, and precision jumping/diving aspects that makes it novel/unique.
@ShoMakahari I disagree that the end text isn't interesting. I don't remember the blogger, but someone once said that if there's a moral to the game, it's "never give up," and the last bit from Maria is a really good way to drive that home.
At least it was in the version I played, with better English.
@originalph00tbag Yeah, I should probably replay it now that there's a better English ending, since the bad translation at the end made me cringe a bit that I just disregarded it.
Kuwait's right! Beautiful:) * Thanks لعبه جميله

Also, why don't you get all the harts and go to the secret room? It's not so hard.

@konstantintenko Might have forgotten about it? Dunno, its been a while since I've played this.

Thanks for saving me the hours of frustration! They should make a tv channel dedicated to playthroughs of old games!

goodness jump while the moving platform is at least halfway out lol

Impressive. I'd play this game, but it looks too hard for my meager platforming skills.

You really suck at timing jumps

yes i do

i think i used camstudio for this one, for voices, go to options and choose record from microphone
if you don't have a microphone, then that's your problem entirely

Have you guys seen my blankblood boss videos?
The controls maybe wonky, but you'll get used to it - either that or I'm ambidextrous.
chumsy84 2 years ago
I'll probably check them out, just to see, thanks.
ShoMakahari 2 years ago
Blank Blood makes this look soft. Seriously.
lKajiol 2 years ago
god, I was thinking of playing that game too, but the controls were too wacky for me
ShoMakahari 2 years ago
As in the game itself or the way the controls are set up? Isn't there a config for the latter?
lKajiol 2 years ago
the game itself, like the jumping was really wonky the first few times i tried it, then again i'm not that good at platformers

Well, that's interesting actually, didn't know that.
If the game had loads of secrets, that might be worth doing, just 'cause of how brutal the game gets sometimes.
ShoMakahari 2 years ago
True, but be careful, even if you have Debug mode on, insta kills will still own you and those inescapable death trap rooms will too.

The freaking platforms of death, I'm sure, took me at least 30 minutes the first time lol, if not more
neowired 2 years ago
Its only platforms of death because you have to be somewhat psychic as to know when that damn 4th platform is gonna be placed when you jump for it
but yeah, i can see why it took you a while
