I love the Punch Brothers just because they're all so musically talented, but I especially love when they do a good ol' traditional bluegrass number like this! Chris Thile is just amazing.

I love the TYPICAL you tube IDIOTS, that take EVERY THING to SERIOUS and SPECIFIC...every one will tell you that bluegrass was made by the G C D pattern, People have their opinions on what they learned by, there is NO NEED for any of this..so stop it..and just leave my comments a lone..
I don't think you get the IDEA of what I was meaning BY that...jeez...three finger chords AS IN Positions, G C D, those...thats what BLUEGRASS was formed FROM, My God, I am saying i DO know what it is, thats all my life is, is bluegrass, and is all I play, Don't tell me to "go out and learn more about it" when you don't know me...I would really appreciate it if you didn't do that...Thank you.
was someone complaining about the instruments being picked up? Anyone that's played in a loud room NEEDS them picked up. What a let down to be ON it and not be able to hear it. Thank the Lord the grass has only gotten better!!
I love the TYPICAL You Tube IDIOTS, With their Keyboard they become an EXPERT on EVERYTHING, and have to run someones Music down,So the ones who don't like this,GOT any of YOUR VIDEOS WE can COMMENT ON?.And JUST What do you MEAN 3 Chords? a LOT of LF&Earl Scruggs had more than 3 chords, CABIN on the HILL?,Had a MINOR,Del McCourys Music more than 3 Chords,Larry Sparks,Or do you NOT consider them BLUEGRASS,a LOTof SORRY ASS Players complain because they only KNOW 3 Chords, could this be the case?
Bluegrass is Technically three finger cords, with some times a minor or something in it, they do SOME bluegrass, but their music goes beyond that, its known as space music almost, so I have to one hundred percent agree with Burtnernie.
actually a lot of people play a G,C,F,B,Bm with 4 fingers. Covering Monroe tunes, playing bluegrass instruments with guys who were brought up playing bluegrass doesnt mean they are playing bluegrass....haha all grass isn't nine pound hammer dude, get out and play some more and listen some more.
I think I know dude, I am currently helping Tony Rice and Richard Bennett with a CD that Richard is soon to release some time this year, I have played a bit with J.D Crowe, my Dad used to be the Great Wayne Fields, I have play a lot and jam a lot with Wendy Miller and mike Lilly, so I do believe I know what is grass and what is not...i was just "SAYING" that bluegrass was originally formed from the three chord patterns a long time ago..
Bro, you said "Bluegrass is Technically three finger cords, with some times a minor or something in it, they do SOME bluegrass, but their music goes beyond that, its known as space music almost...."
So first off, you never said anything about bluegrass was originally formed from three chord patterns. You said three FINGER chords. I was pointing out that people sometimes use 4 fingers to make their chords.
I could also care less who you are helping out and who you know. To be such a seasoned veteran, as one would assume you to be by way of your father and personal experiences, that is a pretty clumsy remark. I know and have played and do play with the best of them to buddy so that is of no relevance. I just don't like to put tags on bluegrass, sure it isn't traditional sounding, but they do use traditional instruments and deep down you know they are bluegrass! haha Take it easy.
It is the same location: The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. Almost certainly they recorded the ESPN video in the hours before the concert I attended and recorded.
If they "do bluegrass" and they "do bluegrass well" -- how are they not a "bluegrass band"? These guys are bluegrass and more -- and they're exposing bluegrass to a new generation more than anyone else today! Yeehaw!
They don't fit a classification. Classifications don't always work well. Listen to Punch, not a single bluegrass song on the record. This song is definitely bluegrass, but there is no way you can classify any song on Punch as bluegrass. They play bluegrass instruments, but that doesn't make them bluegrass.
Well first of all I', a STICKLER on Authentic Music either Country or Bluegrass, this is a Bill Monroe song, their playing traditional instruments in a traditional way, I agree Nickel Creek is NOT Bluegrass but this isn't played like Nickel Creek Stuff, their just advanced Players.I bet Your one of those REAL BLUEGRASS Guys huh?. Know how many Bluegrass Guys to put in a lightbulb?, 10!, one to put bulb in 9 to Bitch because it's Electric,LOL Picked with a few like You, get over it!:)
Many thanks for the correct name. I've just made the change to the listing. Eventually I should have 8 videos from this concert posted here. Thanks again.
This song's called Molly and Tenbrooks (aka the Racehorse Song). Molly and Tenbrooks are both horses. Wikipedia suggests that this song is thought to be the first bluegrass song ever recorded.
