De loused was made so it could be played differently everytime, because although we might not get tired of it, they want to hear something different, and it gives a live performance its special own sound.
theodore astounds me, just leaves me speechless everytime. these guys have been known to play 3 and a half our gigs straight before and jon mannages to hit every beat perfectly from start to finish with no fuck ups! as well as hitting the last beat as hard as the first, he has immense energy, technicality, speed and just on the spot jamming. Volta will never be the same without him!

You know Omar is a genius and I believe he has all these melodic ideas floating around in his head live. He just doesn't know what he's doing live sometimes. Sure improv is cool and taking it in different directions is awesome I just don't think he can actually keep that main guitar line up in the verses through the entire length of the song. Please, just let me see him play it clean once.
I appreciate Pridgedon's playing just because he does a lot of technical stuff, sticking wise. But Pridgedon can't keep a solid groove like Jon could.
Ive seenthe 4 different times and all were different experiences.saw them atthe greek in LA after frances. amazing. saw the open for chilis. good. saw them with prigden after goliath came out and most crowd contact ever. cedric and omar were up to par craziness with their ATDI days.
Dont watch them open or at festivals if you have a choice. watching them on tour themselves is best.
I never got to watch the Volta during this era like the whole 5 man band . Pretty upsetting cause I thought their 2008 sbhow was gonna be like my last chance to see any de loused songs live and they dident even play any. So im just crushed now that ill never see Roulette Dares or Cicatraz live
I guess this is wrong... I really love deloused (maybe it is their best album), but all cds of TMV are fucking amazing... always a new and different style... love them all:D I am going to see them live in two weeks and I hope they will have the same power as five years ago, when i saw them the first time...
Most of the recordings make cedric sound way more out of tune, and their performance sound shittier in general live, but I was blown away when I saw them. If you ever go take earplugs though. Parts of the show were too loud for me to make out noted. Oh, and as far as their live show NOW, Thomas Pridgen is Jesus on drums.
if you saw them open for system then i can understand, ever since cedric started using that new mike its been better, either way the music is freakin sick live, im dissapointed tho that not many people go as crazy at the shows as me and the ppl i go with.
What's NOT with the guitar? It's his song, he can do what he wants with it. And there's not really many errors, it's just sloppy, and it's to give a different effect. He's an amazing guitarist.
I wish i could see this TMV, not the actual... i love their albums, frances the mute and The lused in the comatorium, but the new albums aren't bad but they don't have it strenght...
I did not think Eriatarka could get any better... I was wrong.
Juan and Jon are so amazing in this performance.

Do you guys think the hardest instrument to play in TMV are the drums?
StofferZero 6 months ago
@StofferZero no. the guitar is harder. I'm a drummer and guitar player.

Jon Theodore blows my mind every time. Such power behind his technicality. I appreciate him way more than Pridgeon.

i've heard one live performance, it was ok.. i've heard others say they're rubbish live... but they definitely don't have any audience contact
snehesten 3 years ago
That and Omar can't improv to save his life.
msa1985 2 years ago
his improv owns!! partly becuase his own style is to play notes out of scale and then come back in and it sounds siiiiick, omar is a god
kanecountykevin 2 years ago
No his style is to crappily pick random notes because he can't think of anything on the spot.
