A beautiful story with a bitter ending. Lets remember Jerry as a man who did what he loved and lived life to the fullest. Id take 40 Jerry Quarry years over 1000 Joe Shmoe years any day. Great man.
Beautifully done. Jerry's skills were underrated at the time and like most great athletes, has been given his due after his time. His lightening combinations were a thing to behold. Thanks for the tribute.
Great video! Jerry Quarry is my favorite fighter of ALL TIME! He was the hard-scrabble, tough luck, scrappy fighter with a big heart that draws people to the sport of boxing and a true class act and gentleman outside the ring. It just simply doesn't get any better than this man. My only regret was that I never had the opportunity to meet him and tell him how great he was and how much I admire him. Great tribute to a great man!
One of the baddest whiteboys to ever step into the ring. Was fuckin' up brothas' with skillz and was talking shit while he was doing it. If he was fighting today, the Klitchko brothers would be on their knees sucking his dick!! Dude was FIERCE!!!
quarry was a great fighter and a great man, it is very funny because some fanboys retards pick a pussy like roy jones to beat quarry lol, quarry would ko this muppet easy
This is the best video I've seen on Youtube, fucking heartbreaking, I was in tears all the way through. This is so good it should be the basis of a movie.
Jerry was a good fighter and had the heart of a lion. He just wasn't quite good enough to beat the likes of Ali or Frazier. That is nothing to be ashamed of, and if he were fighting today, he probably would become champion.
I knew he was abit "battlescarred" when he died, but i had no idea he was this far gone. The saddest moment was when his brother had to tell him how to draw a Q.when signing that glove.Great tribute to a great fighter and a great man.Thank you
hey thank you so much for this, made me cry, just started the book with that great back photo of his. wish this sport well...no one deserves to be hit in the head, not once, not twice, not ever. thanks again for a work of art .
Just yesterday I decided to go out to the cemetary in Shafter, Ca. and pay my respects to both Jerry and his brother Mike. Making the trip on my motorcycle I decided to ask around about the 'Quarry's' and was directed by an an elderly gentleman to pay a visit to Abernathy's (a local wrecking yard) once locating the place I saw an old man in a wheelchair gazing at me as I walked up. I asked about the Quarry's - He looked at me and smiled - 'If you messed with a Quarry, you were just plain dumb'
Jerry Quarry was a terrific fighter and though his story is a sad one--a very sad one, indeed--I shall choose to recall him as not a doddering punch-drunk fighter but a vigorous warrior who fought his ass off and gave as good as he got. He was a good man, a proper sportsman; and was a skilled, sharp punching, world class prizefighter who fought the best and gave 'em all hell. He's a SoCal legend, the Bellflower Bomber, and is fondly remembered here.
jerry quarry fought and beat many big punching heavyweights that had great records and were undefeated.a lot of those fighters were ducked by other top fighters in the division.mac foster, ron lyle and ernie shavers come to mind.
Great fighter , with very short left hook and uppercut . Its a great pity the price boxers pay for success . I knew a fighter here in lancashire who was a pedigree amatuer and a professional with just 8 pro fights but @ just 26 was punchy , with eyes that looked through you and slurred speech but 10 years before was normal - great shame that these honest warriors suffer so
Tremendous job on this video. Quarry was a fine man and decent soul. They don't make them like they used to. He truly was The Last of the Great Fighting Irishmen. God Bless you Jerry. I loved your book 'Hard Luck'. Aint that the truth.
Great vidio. Thank you. I saw the first Frazier-Quarry fight in 1969, and haven't seen a heaveyweight battle as savage as that sinse then. Quarry was an decent and intellegent man, who deserved better. Most fighters have damage to the brain from taking all those shots. Quarry,Frazier.Ali, the list goes on. May Jerry not be forgotten, and rest in peace.

Coulda been heavyweight king, unfortunately in his times there was only one champ. Today he could be king of the cruisers for 10 years.
