  • Heard this album a million times... still sounds fresh.

  • QUALITY

  • Why are people moaning about them using one of Aphrodite's Child's chord progressions? The Verve made no secret of the fact they are huge Aphrodite's Child fans and highly influenced by them.

  • This song was playing the first time I got high. I was 16 and I was smoking in my bedroom by myself like 10 years ago before 9/11. This song brings back so many memories.

  • @IndyWatch my first time i got high only like 6 years ago much after 9/11 cause im not old like you =P i walked in my house and my dad had this song blasting I loved it haha

  • @Dezmoinesss Your Dad obviously has Taste and a Good Sense of Humour. Swap? :)

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhm cause death has no plaaaaaaans

  • the best front to back album EVER!

  • Probably the best song on the urban hymns album

  • @Burt472 easily the best

  • "The drugstore wives"

  • the solo gets me every time

  • @thebevaneffect7 Yea. Nick is a god no doubt about it.!!!

  • ...this is BRACHIAAAAAAL...GREAT....

  • un temonnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!

  • so fucking immense

  • Dis song is like havin the sexez with hoes, dope and shit, yo.

  • as cool as...

  • It's 2.30 am. I just carcked another ale for this.

  • Tis the biz!

  • This is the jam to chill to! Classic shit! The Verve rules

  • I can't help myself of sing this song out of my lungs!!!

  • 6 dislikes? Seriously? You people either had a group epilepsy fit and didn't know what you were clicking or you need to be checked into the nearest psych ward asap . . .

  • @MatthewByronMktg

or we just realized that the chorus is a deliberate theft of a highlight of one of the greatest albums of all time

  • @Daltonn0810 Because of the same letters? Haha. This is modern, the other stuff is old, not saying it' not good tho. But you go and live in the 60s. I prefer this song. =)

  • @MatthewByronMktg

Why resort to people who dislike a tune as having a medical problem? Are you saying that epileptics have bad taste in music? What's your considered diagnosis of cancer patients? Are they Justin Bieber fans?

A friend of mine is epileptic, a Verve fan and a lover of this particular song. I think that invalidates your hypothesis.

  • I love the Verve but this chorus is a direct and knowing rip from Aphrodite's Child's song called 'The Four Horsemen.' Check it out and expand youuur heeeeaaaaddd, maaaaan.

  • @postyesterdayman yeah man!noticed that one ages ago, its a shame not that many people know about that track! its insane!!!

  • @postyesterdayman

I would say an homage rather than a rip. The Verve have been pretty open about their love for the gods of Greek psychedelia.

Also the title "The Rolling People" comes from an Aphrodite's Child song called "Altamont" I believe. I bought the 666 album recently and you are right it's a work of genius like nothing I have ever heard. I hope Demis Roussos is getting royalties for it!

  • So come alive with the rolling people....

  • Love this song. Love this album. All thrillers, no fillers.

  • the drum beat leads you into a rock saga, then sends you into euphoria man, bloody awesome tune, ashcroft, pure genius, doe's not even have to try to write song's,it just flows, comes natural, I Frigennnn love this song. Northern Soul and Urban Hymns, definite best albums..And since 1999 not one group nor album comes close to this guy....thanks so much for uploading this, well appreciated mate..again what a drum roll to a classic

  • @148eric

is that to show how good they are just an insult?

  • @148eric Sorry man, you truly are a fuckwit of epic proportions

  • @ohdear1964 hahaha nice comment,i like that phrase

  • @148eric dude, the verve aint got a ''worst song'' as you say, all of their songs are just 110% pure class

  • They did good with letting Porter produce the album, In 1997 The Verve blew Oasis off stage

  • ashcroft is the rolling people.... sooooooooo much passion in this, hearing it live..is just the best..

  • the verve piss all over the chqvs that are oasis, noel on is own would be ok but liam is just a total muppet

  • the verve are a trillion times better than Oasis, these guys play there instruments better and the songs have more interesting advanced music changes to those bunch of dead eyed potato heads :)

  • oh my fucking god this is great

  • Oasis were a great band as were the Verve.

  • @slakslaksil There's is one big difference. The Verve kicks ass live and Oasis is sloppy. Saw them both in the 90's and there was no comparison.

  • Oasis is shite. They had one decent song. They never amounted to shit.

  • wanker

  • god, his voice is so similar to the one of liam g.(oasis)...it's incridible..

  • @Lin6161 I agree but these are two completly different people with different approaches to music but as a lead singer, Ashcroft can write his own music but that does not make Liam Gallagher a bad singer even if he wrote less songs than brother Noel.

  • love this song

    love this band

  • Run to the Sun...Newquay 96?97?98???????????????? LOL!!!! Everyone had radio 1 full blast this on at Hiegh Hall live in Wigan....... The Verve brought that gig 200 miles down the coast... What a moment in HISTORY!!!!!!!!

  • man, i've changed my mind, this is the best song on this album, heavy ,beutiful, brooding, dark, it has everything. wicked!!!!

  • @flyvibe71 i agree. this is the song i can rewind the most

  • reverb abuse

  • you only ripped yourself off with any lame comments on this page buddy...

next to 'Slide Away' all time Verve favs here

  • What a Tune =D

  • best album they ever did!!

  • this song is a rippoff, check out the funkadelic i got a thing

  • Only the opening riff...and do you really think they ripped it off? There is so much out there now, it's hard not come up with some cords copied from somewhere. In an interview Paul McCartney said it's becoming a bigger issue every year with song writers and since they were deep pockets getting sued for it was one of his and Lennon's fears.

  • valid point :)

  • @northernlimit

True, it's "only the opening riff", as you said. Still, an obvious similarity ---intended or not --- is an obvious similarity. Even George Harrison couldn't escape that. I assume you know what that comment refers to. I've always felt that Clarence Haskins should've received at least a co-writing credit for this tune and that The Verve have been fortunate the last 12+ years that he/his attorney hasn't been on the ball about this sort of thing like Allen Klein was.

  • @bledge123 Who the fuck compares modern music to ancient history?

  • yeeeeahh !!!!

  • I got a thing you got a thing everybody's got a thing. Way to completely copy the intro.

  • Big Shout Out !!! .......

  • Great song, album-always thought the cover's Abercrombie look detracted

  • yeah yeah we know you love it..

  • @DavidAncer85 what a wankbag

  • Hammer-Song!!!

  • i bet the bhoys hav heard the 4 horsemen by aphoridite's child...

  • Big shout oooooout!!!!!

  • the second half of this song is one of the best pieces music ive ever heard, epic

  • Nick McCabe is a god.

  • love them

    really

music can sometimes be more than just

  • 3:54 fav part love the verve

  • so good ROCK N ROLL

THE BEST ALBUM by the verve very good the new album FORTH

    GREETINGS FROM THE PERÚ

  • arriba Peru =)

  • The Verve, Perú need you!!

  • Im on a big jet plane with a briefcase of crime in my veins

  • I got one more life

Can you see it wasting away?

    But I got a plan

    Do you understand?

  • great song love it

  • I'm in the wrong fucking country!!!

  • The Drums in beginning are awesome!

  • was any of you eds at the gigs oasis shared with the verve back in 93 with a northern soul it blew oasis back to fookin burnage no ammount of coke could save noel and his pubrock .verve man steam roll ya!!!

  • yeah i was, but noel being the star he is came out on stage at the gig i was at and quoted " how the fuck are we suposed to follow that " even oasis knew that the verve were the truth!!!!

  • Nick McCabe is god!

  • One of the best album covers ever!

  • this is my best verve song there fuckin amazin this urban hymns and defintley maybe are the best albums ever

  • unbelievable that it is 12 years since urban hymns came out!! its the best album ever made!! followed by oasis' definitely maybe!

  • my sentiments exactly.....

  • these guys and oasis are great - Verve for getting 'psychadelic', Oasis for getting fucking mental to

  • even if the verve were not a band ,they would still be amazing

  • ...what?

  • Comment removed

  • This song was either a tribute to or a ripoff of the end/chorus of "Four Horsemen" by Aphrodite's Child, and the intro of Funkadelic's "I Got A Thing"...

    Still a fucking great song.

  • Total ripoff of "The Four Horsemen". Don't know how they got away with it, it's a direct lift in parts.

  • @stmirren1877 Yeah I am glad they polished up that, for our times, boring tune. Let them steal all they want, they're some of the best modern musicians and surely did honor to them by getting inspired by their song.

  • What is the best drug to take, while listening to The Verve? It's ammmmazing on marijuana. I always hear something different.. Like, last night I was really focusing on Pete's drumming on "The Rolling People". It's so fucking good!

I can't get over The Verve.

    BEST BAND EVER.

  • yeah mate your right!!!! im glad i read that fucking guitar effects are nice too

  • McCabe is mindblowing on record, and simply God live.

  • defo i saw ages ago during the urban hymns era

  • Music is awesome on weed. Listen to RADIOHEAD after burning one. You will hear some serious shit. THE VERVE is completely badass!!Rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Rolling People" and "Weeping Willow" are my two favorites from the Urban Hymns album!!

  • Mad for it !!! (8OD)

  • Great song and either an obvious homage to Aphrodite's Child's "Four Horseman" or a blatant rip off. :-P

  • also check out aphrodites people the verve ripped off this song by there band check them out

  • fuck me oasis r better but the verve still rock enjoy both bands fuck me

  • I always thought The Verve was a one hit wonder until I heard this song, plus the others on the CD. They're all amazing! This is my favorite track on the CD, besides "Bittersweet Symphony".

  • Most Americans think that, but The Verve were big in England for many, many years before they broke mainstream Statside.

  • check out a bands back catalogue before you comment, FYI this is music

  • Oasis and The Verve are great

  • Verve are everything ahead of sheer excellence.

Love the Guitar in their Tracks, correct me if i'm wrong, but very 60's sounding. ANd that's what we like to hear.

  • You're corrected.

  • This is an amazing track live...

  • these where around same time as oasis and at the time i allways choose oasis to rock out to.. and the verve to chill out to.. his voice calms at an instant and the music soothes the verve are fantastic!

  • i agree ^^,

    very relaxing

  • Their new single with that inane chorus is just SO banal. I think it is time for Richard to go back on his own again. A genius wasted.

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER

  • simple fact.

if you dont like the verve or oasis you have no taste in music!

    x

  • AGREE

  • its not written stone that if you like the verve you like oasis.definately maybe is good and that about it,one or two songs of the next album.give me nirvana and radiohead any day

  • :) you cant say that

  • Oasis has no soul compared to Verve

  • brom 24 ur a knob oasis r ace fuck you!!!!!!!!

  • sure wish you would upload all the songs on URBAN HYMNS.

  • yeah me too...:(

  • imagine the world without oasis or the verve; what a shit place it would be

  • Two of my favourite bands ^^ Along with RHCP too :P

  • max harper is such a dick head

  • Dont forget Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller to that list (and the bluetones??) and you've got the truth right their.

  • umm not really there are better bands than oasis and the verve but thats just my opinion graham coxon ftw! for the win.

  • @maxharper27 try reading their lyrics some time, they're saying how shitty a place the world is

  • It's a fairly close copy of the Aphrodite's Child song "The Four Horsemen" which is on their "666 The Apocalypse of John" album. The rolling people indeed...

  • Not that close, but interesting similarity all the same...Aphrodite was ahead of it's time

  • Yep...Definitely a big Rousoss and Vangelis thing goin' on there...but great in it's own write (a Lennon thing)

  • Fucking awesome song. Like a bitchslap song

  • love this tune cudda bin great even a favourite chourus sux though and goes on too long with no latter verses to back up the catchy initial ones an if ya say well its the music that makes it'catching the butterfly' does that better. what a mean is a can listen to all of that tune but this one a cant.

  • I think the chorus is awesome. That and the riff in between verses totally make the song. The best on urban hymns imho.

  • what a great fucking tune, one of the best on urban hymns..a true gem..

  • What the hell? How is this related?

  • the guy with the original comments name is gbfan only a faggot would leave a comment about the name like that
