The Tales of games are pretty amazing. Great story lines and gameplay. Cool characters usually. lol. Of course, as far as character depth and story depth almost every Square Enix game can win out. Other than Bioware, I can't think of any studio that tells stories on a grander scale a really makes the player feel a part of the world. lol

As an RPG fan in general. Id say that the Tales series has a much more in depth plot than most FF games, but FF holds a special place for me because it was the 1st RPG I played (FF 1 NES). Basically when I refer to FF i refer to 1, 4,6 and 9. The others just werent my style of fantasy. All time fav RPG..Xenogears for me, for the sheer complexity of the plot. Need more RPG's on the XBOX! =)

Go to absolutezerotranslations(dot)c­om to download the patch. It comes with a readme explaining where you can get a patcher and how you can use it to apply the patch to your ROM.

On a personal note, I recently ordered a flashcart, and I must say that it royally sucks that we have to resort to piracy to play this game in English (of course we could just buy the game and make a backup copy with an expensive piece of equipment, but nah.)

Just started the translation and its the perfect game ive been looking for. I love the battle system and the item customization. Only con is that sometimes a lot of encounters and not a lot of save spots(but i use a AR and now i can save anywhere XD lol.). But other than that Great game. 9/10

@keyinregulus3 I just started playing the translated version, and it's fantastic so far. A little slow (I almost thought there was a bug because you can't save until you get past the first couple cut scenes) but there are great options for how you want names translated.

Easily one of the best Tales of titles around, not just "for the DS". Hell, one of the best RPGs, period. The cutscenes could be a little dry at times, but it was really charming and a lot of fun.

Vesperia's opening, for instance, is a synergetic visual/audial orgasm that is solely responsible for getting me through that game. When I played it, I needed to get pumped up by the opening or else it was impossible. As for the "Hollywood" comment, I don't even know if I should humor it it's so stupid.

Of course the battle systems aren't perfect...but you seem as if you're judging from the eyes of a perfectionist. Tales of Symphonia is my all-time favorite JRPG not because of it's battle system alone, but because of the freedom, plot and many many optional goodies.

If you actually are going to pay for it, you will most likely regret it. Because this is pretty much nothing like the other Tales series. And especially if you play ToH first, you will feel that the battle system of this game sucks real bad since ToH is real good.

But isn't the character designs (which include personality) made by Mutsumi Inomata, the same person who designed the characters of ToD, ToD2, ToH, & ToG? ToD & ToD2 both got higher ranks than ToS apparently. Though I miss Kosuke Fujishima-san...

Ya, I think it's the same artist. Not sure about manga, but hell, you will know how messed up this game really is. Personally, the worst storyline I have ever seen in all Tales series(Didn't play TotT yet, so no idea which one is worse)

And the battle is just average.

If you want to play a decent NDS Tales, do not look back and just choose Tales of Hearts.

Most of Japanese reviews I've read said just "ok" but to me, this is just "worse than average" compared to other Tales.

@FerrariandBMW dude, the battle is not "average." and the storyline is pretty dark and pretty unexpected in a lot of parts. It's quite amazing how a lot of the part of the story unfolds. The only bad part of this game is the world map and the encounter rate and some of the dungeons. But other than that, this is way more than a game worth playing. You might wanna play it past the one hour mark dude, and stop paying any attention to reviews
