Fantastic! I had only seen her sing the song during an episode in the early-mid 90s. I can't find it on youtube, is it on the net anywhere? I've been tryingto find it since I saw it! A hauntingly beautiful song, melody, and performance!
This brings back great memories of when the soaps were still good. And I agree with oldskoolkid, the 80s were probably the best time for Y&R. This is when soaps still had class, made sense, and writers actually knew how to write! Incidently, Beth Maitland, aka Traci was/is a great, understated singer in her own right, and along with Gina, among my favorite Y&R characters.
Patty Weaver aka Gina has an awesome voice. This version is in every way just as haunting as the original vocal one. Gina always rooted for Danny and Traci and encouraged them to be together . . . in spite of Lauren, Traci's nemesis at that time. Gina and Lauren also became bitter enemies later on. Lauren did a lot of mean, hurtful things to people back in the day. So her rivalry with Sheila is all but poetic justice. Lauren is proof positive that a vixen can redeem herself.
@soap1919jt I am searching for the woman who played a villan in a soap opera. I was around 4 years old and I remember her name being Gina. She was blonde I believe with a mole..she resembled Madonna in the video Open your Heart...I don't know what soap it was..but she had a mole and blondish hair.
I think you are talking about actress Robin Mattson who played Heather Webber on "General Hospital" from 1980-1983. Than she went on to play Gina Chappwell on the now defunct soap "Santa Barbra" from 1984-1990.
@MrJuly1990ish Yes. Thank you. I found her 10 days ago. After 25 years I found her. It brought back that same butterfly feeling I had when I was 4. It wasn't easy asking around and nobody seemed to know..so after searching countless sources, I found Santa Barbara and it rang a bell so I checked some videos out and behold there she was. I had the biggest grin on my face. It made sense that I had a crush on this woman back then.
LYRICS: Come, dreams of the past Come with a love that moves so fast Come, those shiny days Caught in a young and restless haze Why did we love Then run away So little time So much left to say And now its come Young and Restless dream You'll never pass this way again Treat the summer wise. Reach for the stars while you have time Your restless dreams Will lead the way So dream your dream And live for each day
Wow... I remember watching this clip in Summer 1983 as Y&R celebrated 10 years on the air. Patty Weaver (like Jerry Douglas aka John Abbott) is a magnificent, under rated singer who was justly featured here and when she sang the theme for another anniversary. Not only did I love her understated acting and singing; this clip is special. It reminds me of old Y&R-- very classy, adult, sophisticated... etc. The look on her face as she sings the final note to the somewhat sad theme is timeless.
Patty Weaver is a great singer, isn't she? I am DYING to find someone who has any footage of Traci singing. Especially when she did "The Rose", and "You Needed Me" with Danny.
I remember when she used to be on all the time. I always felt bad for her because they never gave her a boyfriend. I remember when the show first came on and she had rooms upstairs at her club and the first guy that played Jack lived there. ( the current Jack was Cliff on all My Children then) Gina was crazy about him and his wild ways and he only thought of her as a great friend! I guess that was it for her : )
Wow I love this. I never knew the song actually had lyrics. Gina looked so different back them most of the cast have gotten bigger in the waist line. Gina sure can sing.
I recall that Gina sang "Lost" at the restaurant in the late 80s, I believe it was 1989, and Nina and David Kimble were in the audience. I did not know she had sung it previously - thanks a lot for this clip!
They should've had the closing credits playing while she was singing. Or at least had all the characters there and listed who played them, etc. (similar to a particular "Growing Pains" episode).
I have this scene on tape, but my quality isn't good, glad to see a better quality. The song has lyrics, the lyrics played over the end credits from about 1974 to about 1975.
I love the way she sings this! It should be recorded and put on iTunes.

@ernmitch1968 I agree. I remember thinking what a "grown-up" show it was. Now when I watch it, I feel it is really kind of boring and lame.
I think the 1980's were pretty awesome for this show.....now its a bit ridiculous

Wow. Who knew Gina's restaurant had such good acoustics/sound quality?
I think this clip was when the place was still called The Jonas Club and Danny was a singing waiter.
