almost every sprite is using the colours of mario's sprite. its kinda the same as in super mario rpg when you use a cheat you can use any of the character's special attack with any character and for example if you use like jump (mario's attack) with peach after the attack has been done peach will be all red and blue.

Game Genie is in HEX, meaning it cant read U and S in USAUSA, so basically all it sees it as is 00A00A, type in that and I am pretty sure you get the same results.

The reason why Mario has all the colors and the rest of the stage no is because the memory map for Mario is different than the rest of the stage and it became unaltered.

Game Genie is about altering memory values.

I also tried USEUSE and others. I have about 100 codes made by me but all makes the game stuck at some point. I think with this USAUSA code, you cant pass level 1 on world 8. I think it gets stuck but I dont remember. Cheers!

I used game genie for the nes with this game and I remember mmisdoing a code one time.

Either it was mega jump or more likely an "always stay as" code for mario (sledge hammer I think) and I got an always stay as small mario glitch. Side effect: mario sprite was B/W grayscale. Being 9 or 10 at the time I though nothing of it. Now I know I stumbled on something.
