The way i did it was to run wires to power the glow plugs, run solenoid on the injection pump, and starter. Leave 12 volts connected to the run solenoid. Power the glow plugs for a few seconds and then bump the starter by applying 12 volts to the starter. After you get it cranking spray some wd40 in the intake to help it start.

If it's an XD2 (it seems so) it's a 2,3 litre, 70 Hp engine.

The gear box is attached but it doesn't need to be. The starter is installed on the block itself.

I guess the gearbox was still attached to allow the starter to be bolted on?! or what did you do to get around it?
