I am watching it because my basement flooded with my $375,000.00 home theatre and I didn't have a backup sump pump. Luckily I only lost $20,000.00 in damages.
If you have city water look into getting a water system backup sump pump. They use no power. that is what I have in my house. If power goes out I am safe as long as I have water pressure, which I always should have. The battery backups don't last that long. Just my $.02 worth. Good luck and sorry to see all these losers posts.

it looks like there probabaly is a check valve above the main pump, but I'm guessing that backup pump is teed in above that. plumbing fail.

Install a spring loaded check valve not a flapper type valve to stop the thumping sound and dripping.
