you need a 5.1 or 7.1 home theater soundsystem to hear the real sound of gran turismo 5, with normal speakers sounds like a vacuum cleaner. forza is good too but is not the"final simulator" has some bugs and IA fails, Gran Turismo 5 takes too much time, but in overall is a great game, needs a lot of patches... anyway both games are great to play if you are a real fan of the racing games.
thats one big reason why ive turned away from Gran Turismo...GT 1,2,3,and 4-where i finally got fed up, is with the exhaust nodes of about 95% of the cars. they were completely awful. not even close to what the car actually sounded like. my 1st time playing Forza 2, i was immediately impressed. @Makron5 well even if it was in a real car it probably had less downforce than a mclaren f1 with a spoiler. Unless of course you were in a real mclaren in which case you're right and gt5 must have something wrong with their physics.
@kungfuninja55 Try a Star Mazda car as well as an onboard of a C6R Corvette. Watched a Radical SR8, drove it in a Mazda mx5 roadster. Also I'm not sure if this happened in the video, but it sounds like he got on the power VERY quick. You're usually very cautious doing that turn because if you get a little airborne it will ruin you totally.
Although im a fan of GT series, i really hated the engine sound of this car... i mean, its one of the most amazing ever, and sounds kinda bad compared to the original

I actually like the way the engine noises sound different. It just shows how creative polyphony is at producing their own car sounds. You cant expect all car noises to be spot on now can you.
Growing up with the GT series, I couldnt care less if the game was as shit. uve gotta appreciate the fact that they released it. Probably knowing Kaz, he wouldnt have released the game for another 2 years.
@DIEHARDERXIX The McLaren F1 has a screaming fire breathing V12, it sounds like a sick civic in GT5 along with almost every other car, 1000 cars and only 200 cars have interiors, 800 are just updated carry overs from GT4? And the damage..or lack there of. But I just had my expectations too high! Still has the best graphics of any racing game yet.
It definately looks like more work was put into the track on gran turismo 5. I've played all forza games and when gran turismo came out I switched back to PS3. Forza feels like an arcade game compared to gran turismo 5. At times Laguna Seca just looks real on GT5. (on a 1080p 120hz 42") If you don't have a good TV, you probably won't notice a huge difference.
@TheOriginalFalcon I'd say the graphics on GT5 are about 10% better (at most) than Forza 3 (on a new 50" 1080p, 600hz) but the sound is about 50% worse (a McLaren F1 sounds NOTHING like that!). And I've driven around the real Laguna Seca and BOTH games fail to bring the place to life!
The car and track list in Forza also totally puts GT to shame (unless you actualy enjoy vast amounts of bland jap crap?!). I'll take quality over quantity any day.
Yeah my buddy who drives a 07 Z06 said he didn't like GT5 that much. He's a huge car enthusiast but he told me the exhaust upgrades in GT5 made his Z06 sound like a ricer. He also said the 'feeling' of cockpit view was messed up with all that junk piling all around the screen. He also said the cockpit view was disappointing. Like in real life you can hear his engine clearly in cockpit view, in the game it somehow gets louder if you look back and quieter looking forward.. gay

@TheOriginalFalcon Yeah, the physics in GT are probably slightly better but it's just not enough to make up for the games other glaring faults for me. It's pretty much impossible to feel completely immersed in the game with that ridiculous HUD shat all over the screen and an engine sounding like a cheap food mixer (any TRUE car fanatic will tell you the sounds of a race engine are at least half the love).
And two standards of car in a game is just plain weird and shows PD had MAJOR problems.
To be honest I am very dissapointed with the look of GT5, visually it is stunning, but the handling from gameplay just reminds me of the arcade vision of Forza and PGR. The jump from GT2 to GT3 on PS1 to PS2 really does not do the jump to from PS2 to PS3 with a long wait any good. Disappointed with the development.
Also as always the engine notes really do not sound at all real, no growl, no deep bass nothing to comprehend the excitement of the driven vehicle, and of course, still no damage.
@Pederzen100 Here's a hint: GT5 is the loser of this generation if we count the PC's driving sims. iRacing is the new lord of the race. Put yourself in the NASCAR vehicles around any of the ovals and then put it in an oval around iracing and you'll notice the difference straight off the bat if you have a wheel setup. (which all racing sim enthusiasts do)
@Makron5 I think it's not convenient to compare console sims and PC sims. On PC, simulation games are a whole different universe. Also, iRacing felt insufficient for me, in fact, even SimRaceway felt more solid (though it almost lacks support). I think that when it comes to sim racers, you need to separate the ones on console (GT, Forza, RacePro and some older games that are still respectable, like Enthusia), from the ones on PC (rFactor, iRacing, LFS, SimRaceway)

Maybe it is because I have always been a fanatic for Gran Turismo, when you love something you want it to always be perfect, god knows how many hours I put into each version, hell I know the new NSX concept is the same as the HSC concept from GT3 Prologue ^^ Oh and I did try sniffing the rubber scratch pad on the GT2 disc :)

Yes, it does look like an F1 GTR, but I think that it's just a modified version of the standard, road-legal F1 (yes, F1, not F1 LM). I believe this is one of the special exclusive cars you'll get from the Signature Edition of the game, if I don't remember wrong - I read it on GTP. The livery and added parts of the car (for example, the rear spoiler) are designed by Polyphony Digital themselves, I think.
I've played GT and Forza. Forza's physics are bad. All the cars slide around. Super grippy RWD race cars torque steer like crappy FWD hatchbacks. The graphics are cartoon-like. The sounds are nothing like the real car sounds. It may have damage, but the damage is also crappy. And it doesn't pay attention to details like GT does. And there isn't as much variety as GT5 will have. Not being a fanboy, Forza is the int bad Xbox exclusive

@Makron5 I think it's not convenient to compare console sims and PC sims. On PC, simulation games are a whole different universe. Also, iRacing felt insufficient for me, in fact, even SimRaceway felt more solid (though it almost lacks support). I think that when it comes to sim racers, you need to separate the ones on console (GT, Forza, RacePro and some older games that are still respectable, like Enthusia), from the ones on PC (rFactor, iRacing, LFS, SimRaceway)

@kango1170 I am not saying the game is bad, I am saying I had higher expectations. Maybe it is because I have always been a fanatic for Gran Turismo, when you love something you want it to always be perfect, god knows how many hours I put into each version, hell I know the new NSX concept is the same as the HSC concept from GT3 Prologue ^^ Oh and I did try sniffing the rubber scratch pad on the GT2 disc :)

@Maxilicious I have every gran turismo game and I am not disapointed because I dont hold polyphony accountable for making a "perfect" game. I dotn know what year it will be when we are basically playing as close to real life as possible but you and other people need to lower your expectations because if you keep them this high you're only going to be let down. I saw some reviews giving this game 6's and 7's wtf? Thats not even possible or fair. anyway enjoy your game for what its worth.

For the ones who think that this is a McLaren F1 GTR:
Yes, it does look like an F1 GTR, but I think that it's just a modified version of the standard, road-legal F1 (yes, F1, not F1 LM). I believe this is one of the special exclusive cars you'll get from the Signature Edition of the game, if I don't remember wrong - I read it on GTP. The livery and added parts of the car (for example, the rear spoiler) are designed by Polyphony Digital themselves, I think.
But still, I may be wrong.

I've played GT and Forza. Forza's physics are bad. All the cars slide around. Super grippy RWD race cars torque steer like crappy FWD hatchbacks. The graphics are cartoon-like. The sounds are nothing like the real car sounds. It may have damage, but the damage is also crappy. And it doesn't pay attention to details like GT does. And there isn't as much variety as GT5 will have. Not being a fanboy, Forza is the int bad Xbox exclusive

@sdstig it easy to believe, as well as dirt and need for speed. Have played both ONCE. None of them can´t just approach the GT. When played GT 4 for the first time was absolutely blown away and stopped playing any car games. Need for speed seems im comparison as a really bad joke. Cars don´t run on the ground, but fly little bit above tarmac. When playing GT4 you can really feel the physics and effort of the tires to hold back. I will probably buy PS3 just to play GT5!!!
