That video barely does justice to being there watching it! I was stuck in gridlock on my way home from work and I tell ya, that thing looks like the Millennium Falcon is landing on your head! It cast this huge shadow over highway 401, that's what totally got me to look up!
THANK´S SO MUCH.I love this airport everytime i see videos about her i Think( I WANT ONE THIS IN MY CITY WITH-THIS- BEAUTIFULL AIRCRAFTS)-Alessandro2971.
@bvivian constantly...usually on 3 parallel runways (ie: rwy 23, 24L/R) There's usually a good sequence at the airport's peak hours, and is very busy, yet very well managed
I live next to the factory that's building some of the complex avionics and instruments in Edinburgh.... The A380 did a fly-by of Edinburgh airport but couldn't land... Big bird...
that would have been the a380's 4th flight into Toronto. First one was June 1st and it came in on 6R or 6L i forget....looks amazing from the Airport Rd side!
@pr9nkaholic The 747 is certainly iconic. I saw a KLM 744 arriving to Toronto Pearson the other day from highway 407...so in the distance, and the sun was just going down and hitting the aircraft at a perfect angle...it was beautiful and graceful to watch. I really should have taken a picture =(
@MEGIDIOT Yeah, I wrote to the GTAA (Pearson Intl's airport authority) and suggested they build an observatory for the public in a safe location where you're not at risk of getting run over by cars on airport road :P .For now, this is likely the closest you'll get

@Chrisrex83 Me and my friend were freaking out after we saw that boeing 747, and you're totally right! I usually get excited to see airplanes in videos, but if they are live and you see it, just beautiful!
@MrAflac9916 The 380 is amazing live. Its almost hard to appreciate is sheer size in a video. But as soon as it comes, its gone, so I am glad I got to capture it :)
I've been to the T1 ATC Tower at Pearson when I was little but I was one to two years early for the A380. That would've been a sight. I would love to go up but that stupid guy who let his kid talk to pilots kinda ruined it :/
I like to hang out @ that Wendy’s on airport road sometimes although am no expert on airplanes but I like them. Sometimes I wonder, what if one of those pilots decided for any reason to abort landing and give it full throttle @ the last moments? Wouldn’t that be dangerous for everybody standing there or passing by? Won’t that rupture the air drums or even worse? Is it possible for a pilot to abort landing that close or it's too late?
@ZurnaWdahol hi, thanks for your comment. While it's not really all that safe to stand so close to a runway at all, if the pilots had to go around, the thrust from the engines shouldn't pose a big problem for anyone standing there. They are still abut 100+ feet above the ground above airport road, although people might feel a little wind from the turbo fans.
@ZurnaWdahol last time i saw a Fed Ex i think it was a CD 10 abort the landing. they had to do a go around because the planes was over the weight limit and its was dcending too fast
@ZurnaWdahol One time i saw a Fed Ex DC 10 abort the landing. It had to go around because it was over the plane's weight limit and it was going to fast. When the plane was aborting u can hear the engines going to full throttle and its was really loud and it was an amazing experience
@ZurnaWdahol Yes it could be dangerous to stand so close to a runway because an engine at full power could in fact rupture one's eardrum. However, it is very unlikely that a pilot would abort landing so late. Most, if not all landing procedure require a decision height for a go around. This height is normally 200 feet for a CAT I ILS Landing. The decision height varies with the ILS type. The decision height is also called MINIMUMS- or the minimum hight for a go around.
Well Captured Chrisrex83, I have added a video response of the 380 landing on 05 as well. Captured it from pretty much the same area. Though not as many people present that day lol.
Nice. Watching these airplanes landing and taking off is just amazing. Are you actually a member of a plane spotting club or are these just some random people plane spotting together?
@helsinkisuomi Thanks. I'm not part of a club. I just go down once in a while to watch. When I took this video, the 380 had just started serving Toronto, so lots more people gathered to see it, though there's generally a good crowd at Pearson most of the time.
@Kingsmile11 Seems that way, but it's an illusion. The size makes it seems either slower or faster, but generally the small jets aren't going as fast as the larger ones. In fact, some smaller one's have slower approach speeds than the large jets.
@Chrisrex83 On a related note, if you watch planes taking off, and think a 737 is moving through the air faster than, say, a 747, that's no illusion-at the point of ground contact breaking the 737 is actually going at a greater speed.
@Kingsmile11 the b737(smaller jets) come in around 115 to 200 knots while the b747 and a a380(bigger jets) come in around 150 to 250 knots or something like that.
I think I saw that A380 when I was at a hotel, about to depart! I saw it just outside of the window, I think it was doing a push back. Unfortunately, I did not get any photos... That was a LONG time ago when I knew nothing about planes...
@fsxcptain Yes the an-225 still holds the record for being the largest aircraft ever built. The while the A380 holds the record for being the largest Commercial Airliner ever built.
@Chrisrex83 Just wondering, since you might know. does it use #23 to take off? towards Airport Rd? ( i know wind has something to do with it, and since it's usually from the West, I am guessing it's better to watch from the other side of the Airport most days? can't wait to see this thing land :D wow!
@galaxiedance Generally it lands on 23 if the winds are out of the west/ n. west etc., and rwy 05 depending on the winds. However it has been known to land on 06L at the south end of the field. I guess you just have to take a chance, but 05/23 was renovated specifically for the 380 :) So if the aircraft are landing towards the West, I would stand on Airport Rd. at the foot of 23 'cos that's likely where he'll come in . Cheers
@skbluck I didn't see any notice on the GTAA website of a closure. Do you know why they were closing 05/23?
I know there will be a June "Runway Run" event on Runway 06R/24L which will close the runway down for a public run. (That's a lot of "runs" in that last sentence :P)
hi..we went today to watch the ONE to lend and on the 23 was closed to lend but they where using it,opposit,so 05, for lending and take of and the A380 lended on the 05
we wanna go on wendsday again and see it lending on the 23..cant wait fro that!!!
I work arrival and departure at YYZ . We had an ops letter saying that 05/23 would be closed for a certain period this summer. As it turns out, they have been closing it periodically during the day and reopening it for the evening. So...as the 380 arrives in the evening, it will continue to land on the north runway.
Too bad i no longer live in TO. You used to be able to park in the Macdonald Douglas parking lot and watch the landings and park there when the Air Show was on at the CNE. Used to live in Etobicoke, Every Sunday morning at around 7:10 the jumbos would star arriving from Europe. The sound of the forward thrusters rattleing my windows was music to my ears.....aahhh, the good old days.
That's the parking lot of the cinema...at least there used to be a cinema and hotel there.
The 380 has a shorter fusalage than the 744, but it is taller (8 storeys high) and has a much larger winsgpan and wing area. All-in-all it is larger than the 744, yes. :)
just from this video it sure looked like it may have been larger than the 747 because the Russians have this one with 6 engines & twin tails that is HUGE!
Hey what are some other areas to plane spot in toronto, besides airport rd, and secondly on the runway on airport rd to planes also take off, in the other direction, meaning that the planes take off facing the road.
Hi there. Yes you can park along Dixie Rd. on the western side of the field. Most often times, the aircraft land or takeoff on rwy's 23, 24R 24L, 05, 06 L and 06R depending on the wind direction that day. Most often, the wind is out of the west, so 23 and 24 are usually used. But often times, 06L, R and 05 are used. So you can stand on Dixie Rd. for those landings, or remain on Airport Rd. to see them takeoff when 5 and 6 are in use. Rarely are 33 R,L or 15 LR used fully. Hope that helps.
This is awesome! That last one,the one you were waiting for, was indeed awesome as well! It sure was low! It looked like you could reach up and shake the pilot's hand! Great job! There looked to be quite a crowd there. I would have been right there with them!
I read a quote that said "All men have the same mindset: Size Matters" :P That said, I agree with you to a point...The 747 will always remain the icon for commercial airliners. It's one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built.
I Love flying both the 744 and A380 on the simulator...despite their size, they are some of the smoothest planes to handle. Cheers.
the winds that blow over pearson are usually westerly. And since planes land and take off facing the wind. You will find most landings on Rwy 23 ,24L and 24R. A380 usually uses rwy 23 and lands in toronto mon, wed, fri around the times of 3-4:30 pm.
is it just me or do those planes look like they are coming in way too fast, cause I've done my fair share of planespotting at such airports as KORD, KFLL, KMIA, KMCO and planes there come in much slower on final approach
Nope, Toronto lands aircraft at the safe landing speeds for each aircraft. It might be the fact that I was so close to the runway threshold while taking this. Remember an average jet airliner approaches at roughly 160 M/ph give or take.
Heythere...Not sure the exact address, but It's on Airport Road in Toronto opposite Runway 23 atPearson International. It's towards the north end of the airports. We parked at a Wendy's. There's usually a gatherin of people in the area watcing the aircraft when they're landin them to the west.
i didnt think the 747 would land there i thought that RWY was too short i always go to that wendys/country style corner n only get the 737 from west jet or 777 crj's great vid
thanks for the info .. but it still hard tryin to find out where the a380 lands every time it comes, remember the first landin at yyz ??it was on runway 6R or 6L near the 401 . i think last week it was landind on rnwy 6R cuz it was doin the approach and final over my work in brampton neways have a good day !!
Nice vid! I love planespotting at the end of 27R at Atlanta, I always go when I have the opportunity. At least YYZ has more variety than ATL, all I see here is AirTran 717s and ASA CRJs down here! I've always wanted to see an A380 in real life.
Thank you. I assumed ATL would have a nice variety...I think KATL is much larger and busier than Pearson is.. If The 380 ever flies into ATL, you'll thouroughly enjoy it, trust me lol. Whether people are a fan or not, they still gasp when they experience the sheer size as it flies over at 75 feet :P I hope you get the oppertunity
On average, most commercial jet aircraft these days land at between 140 to 160 knots (161-184 MPH) taking into consideration the aircraft itself, and weather conditions. These factors will have an affect on landing speeds. Concorde landed at 165 knots (189 MPH).
this must be the best video that exists thanx so much for uploading it I couldn't make it when it landed so I watched it take off and before that we saw a fedex DC10 this is a great vid thanx again!
I work right beside the gas station... On friday was there taking some pictures.... At worked everyone stop working just to see the A380.. great video....
lots of spotters!! i'm gonna spot from where those group of spotters are. i'm planning to cathc air canada 777, emirates a380, klm 747, lh a346, air canada ----, lan 767, etihad 777 and others. your spot wasn't too good because you were behind the building, you should have gone near the road.
Yes, at first I was standing on the field at the Wendy's and u had a better view of the approach, but not the landing cos of the building. Then I moved to the side so I could get the approach and the landing better.
every time i come to toronto, i use emirates

Too bad i no longer live in TO. You used to be able to park in the Macdonald Douglas parking lot and watch the landings and park there when the Air Show was on at the CNE. Used to live in Etobicoke, Every Sunday morning at around 7:10 the jumbos would star arriving from Europe. The sound of the forward thrusters rattleing my windows was music to my ears.....aahhh, the good old days.
That's the parking lot of the cinema...at least there used to be a cinema and hotel there.

is it larger than the 747 Jumbo jet??
jasong19711 1 year ago
The 380 has a shorter fusalage than the 744, but it is taller (8 storeys high) and has a much larger winsgpan and wing area. All-in-all it is larger than the 744, yes. :)
Chrisrex83 1 year ago
just from this video it sure looked like it may have been larger than the 747 because the Russians have this one with 6 engines & twin tails that is HUGE!
jasong19711 1 year ago
@jasong19711
Yes the 380 is the largest mass-produced aircraft in the world, and second largest behind the Unkranian An-225.

Hey what are some other areas to plane spot in toronto, besides airport rd, and secondly on the runway on airport rd to planes also take off, in the other direction, meaning that the planes take off facing the road.
abdul456 1 year ago

I would have been right there with them!

is the video accelareted ??
cause i've never planes land at this speed
axeman972 2 years ago
it's not accelerated. They're flying at the standard landing speed for that particular aircraft (averaging between about 148-170 mp/h)
Chrisrex83 2 years ago
yes sorry i think you 're right
axeman972 2 years ago
It looks like the lens is pretty wide, and this can give the illusion of higher speeds.

Hi Darren. This is at Toronto Pearson. Just off Airport Road across from runway 23 at the north end of the field.

747 is still king!! Honestly I think that is the only plane ever made that has charisma

i agree.

Cheers.

A380 couldn't do the noise 747 made !!!!

The 380 is very quiet, so environmentalists will be happy. I'm sure the new 747-800 is just as quiet as the 380 ;)

runway 23.....
wiistrap103 2 years ago
the winds that blow over pearson are usually westerly. And since planes land and take off facing the wind. You will find most landings on Rwy 23 ,24L and 24R. A380 usually uses rwy 23 and lands in toronto mon, wed, fri around the times of 3-4:30 pm.
SteU4IA 2 years ago
is it just me or do those planes look like they are coming in way too fast, cause I've done my fair share of planespotting at such airports as KORD, KFLL, KMIA, KMCO and planes there come in much slower on final approach
southflorida704 2 years ago
Nope, Toronto lands aircraft at the safe landing speeds for each aircraft. It might be the fact that I was so close to the runway threshold while taking this. Remember an average jet airliner approaches at roughly 160 M/ph give or take.
Cheers
Chrisrex83 2 years ago
hey, could anyone tell me where this is, (street name, full address, etc)
fergie1613 2 years ago
Heythere...Not sure the exact address, but It's on Airport Road in Toronto opposite Runway 23 atPearson International. It's towards the north end of the airports. We parked at a Wendy's. There's usually a gatherin of people in the area watcing the aircraft when they're landin them to the west.

f1fan84 2 years ago
Actually, runway 23/05 is the longest runway at the airport and was also specially renovated to land the 380 ;)
Chrisrex83 2 years ago
thanks for the info .. but it still hard tryin to find out where the a380 lands every time it comes, remember the first landin at yyz ??it was on runway 6R or 6L near the 401 . i think last week it was landind on rnwy 6R cuz it was doin the approach and final over my work in brampton neways have a good day !!

Nice vid! I love planespotting at the end of 27R at Atlanta, I always go when I have the opportunity. At least YYZ has more variety than ATL, all I see here is AirTran 717s and ASA CRJs down here! I've always wanted to see an A380 in real life.
MrATLPilot 2 years ago
Cheers

approxamite landing speed for most aircraft is close to 128 mph
kfirie 2 years ago
On average, most commercial jet aircraft these days land at between 140 to 160 knots (161-184 MPH) taking into consideration the aircraft itself, and weather conditions. These factors will have an affect on landing speeds. Concorde landed at 165 knots (189 MPH).
Cheers

lots of spotters!! i'm gonna spot from where those group of spotters are. i'm planning to cathc air canada 777, emirates a380, klm 747, lh a346, air canada ----, lan 767, etihad 777 and others. your spot wasn't too good because you were behind the building, you should have gone near the road.
777janek 2 years ago
Yes, at first I was standing on the field at the Wendy's and u had a better view of the approach, but not the landing cos of the building. Then I moved to the side so I could get the approach and the landing better.

sweeeeet! my friend missed it, he was on runway 24. i am going to that exact spot in the summer with a good camera. Canon Powershot SX10
