Thanks for all the nice commments!!! This is definitely fun! The straw mulch has worked really well...probably the best material I've found for moisture retention...

absolutely wonderful...had a smile on my face the whole time. Loved the early morning atmosphere...really magical. Good call with all the figs! And the melons are intense! Im amazed at how good its all looking..

Good policy on paying as you go. I did my garden in one shot and it was a bit overwhelming. VERY EXPENSIVE, would I go back and do it over again? Yes, differently, but it would have taken probably twice as long to build up the soil to the point of fertility it is at now. So you get pro's and con's. Of course, with anything! Looking good, keep it up!!! :)
