  • one of my favorite who performances of all time

  • 1:17 Cathy!

  • Who says you can't "rock out" with a Rickenbacker? Love it!

  • 0:10 Keith "Yeah , we feel alright !" xD

  • I'd like to feel that allright!

    yes totally worthy subscribe!

  • 1:51 that's why he was the model for Animal of the Muppets!

  • Wow. That drum solo-type thing sounds like the songs melody... That's just awesome! I wish John's backing vocals were more prominent in the Who's 1965 recordings...

  • I love this early Who period. playing blues at 100mph. Speed Blues!!! Moons about 18 in this footage and the drums don't just keep a beat they are playing a melody. He just hits everything he can totally improvised and sounds great. I love the bloke. He makes hitting things an art.

  • Dig that cool "clanky" Brit Invasion guitar tone from Pete's Rickenbacker!

  • 0:55 John : "Shout, an..." "Oh shit, I wasn't supposed to sing !"

  • 2 people are whispering and twitching.

  • I recently saw a colour photo of the outfits they were wearing in this performance. Pete's jacket had medals with colourful ribbons pinned on and both Pete and John wore pink shirts.

Pete once said in an interview they were very keen on putting some colour into mod fashion which was at the time seemed very mono-tonal. They must have looked amazing!

  • aiight now whoever r those 2 motherfuckers...stand up, else the whole town dies

  • When i heared this song the first time,i started to love "the Who"!Great Band!

  • Keith Moon is the greatest drummer to have ever lived.

  • great song

  • One for the loon ;-)

  • john seems to have the deepest voice of all four of them,

  • wizzz, flash,gloups,blips,bloups!!!! géniallement dément!!!!

  • i never thought someone like pete would put on a fake american accent

  • awesome!!!!!

  • The Who loved James Brown. I remember picking up their 1st album in the early seventies in a used record store for $3.00and the only reason I got is because they covered 2 James Brown tunes (Please Please Please & I Don't Mind). My friend said, "Do you realize Who fans would kill for this album and you got it cheap and only because they played James Brown songs! I'm curious: Did they ever cover 'Shout & Shimmy' on an album?

  • This was the b side to My Generation.

  • yes it was in an album, I think it was "Who's Missing", not a common album. The album you have must be worth over 100 pounds now, it was a good buy!

  • OMGSH, The Who are so young in this video.

John looked CUTE as a 20 something.

He really is the whole package. lol.

  • This is probably the first time they did camera close ups that many times on the drummer!

  • Best Who song, James Brown's is also brilliant. Ace.

  • go Keith go..... a future drumming genius here

  • have nothing more to say, just except 1on-.- awesome, nice and the best best MAX.RNB ;)

    german=absoverdammtescheisselut, please translate^^"

  • this was 1965 wasn't it? Keith was just 19 at that time o0

but already soo great soo adorable sooo full-moon <3

  • BRILLIANT!! Roger did a great job singing a James Brown song.

  • No one had noticed that John Entwistle burps at 0:04 ?

  • Just one more facet of his complex stage persona.

  • He does!!!Right on man!hahahaha

  • Don't think he belches, think he says "shabba"

  • He says "all right" in his exaggerated and forced, deep voice. It's not a burp.

  • @xapuceros he didn't burp, he did his 'Boris the Spider' voice.

  • Keith looks so young and adorable here. So sweet. Gotta love his drumming right there at the end :)

  • Without question the most energetic John Entwhistle performance ever - I actually saw him move!

  • lol yeah but maby him not moving help make the best bassist ever

  • :D lol

maybe he was on speed that he did a move :D

    Entistle's great!

  • @problem49 ---he was known as the quiet one, but his bass did all the talking. He was one of the best ever. RIP John

  • Lol at Keith towards the end.

  • Keith is so cute!!! :D<3

  • total and utter modtastical....greatness!

  • Keith Moon on drums in this is insane.

  • I LOVE Pete's guitar playing in this!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • Great Stuff ! Nice bass / drums break !!

BTW, that dark-haired guy hand-clapping in the audience from about 1:41 onwards :- is that Manfred Mann or what ?!

  • Oh it SO is....I mean, it makes sense, didn't they write the theme song?

  • I love the James Brown, but sadly we don't have film of him performing this. The is my favorite Who song. Crazy huh but when I saw it in Kids Are Alright I became a fan.

  • same for me.

  • best video ever!!! total mod classic!!! :P keep uploading the great videos!!!!

    WE ARE THE MODS!!!

  • This more "Shout" by the Isleys, not Shout and Shimmy, the James Brown tune.

  • a ***** killer track,

    100% Mod as F*ck!!

    Lee

    The Sawdust Caesar

  • Let's roll another one!

  • Party!

  • F@#kin get in there! Even then I think Keith was the best drummer around! Watch him giving it s@#t at the end...! Love The Who forever!

  • you mean it was Keith, although, as you said, John did lots of backing vocals, in this one he says something like "shut up" in a voice like boris the spider... anyway, LONG LIVE ROCK!

  • sorry to be one of those correcting aholes but you can clearly see pete sayin "yea we feel alright" in that rediculous voice and whats with that dude who says james brown would blow this away he posted in every shout and shimmy video, think you got your point across in the last video buddy

  • sorry once more, watch pete´s face while listening to the voice, pete says "we feel alright" with his normal voice

  • Much more interesting - Pete uses a 12-string Rickenbacker to produce a richer and fuller sound. As the chords are just F and Dm (with a addition of Bb and C), for the guitar players amongst you. ;-)

  • First of all, if you are going to quote me, do it correctly. I didn't say that James Brown would blow this away, but that he does blow this away. Secondly, I can say this as many times and places I want to. It's called a free country, dude.

  • no, keith says the real high part, john says something in the boris-the-spider-type-voice, though john sang almost as much as roger on the early days, their voices armonize real good, and sometimes it´s kind of hard to tell who´s singing, later pete would take the backing vocals rather than john, and on entwistle´s last years the ox only sang lead vocals on my wife and boris. Pete did the backing

AWSOME, would love to have a band that swings this way

  • James Brown-- often immitated, but never duplicated! The original by JB blows this away!

  • i thought it was Townshend speaking

  • good but i prefer the brown 's version ;)

  • i recon its john cause he goes up to the mike, and kieth has no mike.

  • Haha, is that Keith saying "Yeah we feel alright" with the funny voice? :D Great!

  • Yeah, that high pitched voice is Keith. :-)

  • Try John Entwistle. He sang the falsetto (high) parts in the early days...
