@Kowalski45, you forgot about pegasus bridge. a unit of the british 6th airborne division attacked a bascule bridge over the Caen Canal using gliders. they then held it until reinforcements could arrive.

If they had failed to hold then german panzer divisions could have rolled up the flanks to the bridges and the invasion would have been thrown back.
