I dont know why people think a charger R/T will beat a mustang GT. Whether you like them or not, it is simple fact that the mustang is faster, stock for stock. The charger has a powerful engine but its drivetrain is absolutely shitty. An R/T makes what, about 370 hp at the crank opposed to the mustangs 305 at the crank? I've looked at dyno charts and both cars make almost exactly the same power at the wheels. Roughly 260-270. The charger just loses too much through its crap transmission

My 06 mustang puts 360 H.P. to the wheels so you know i am far from stock,Still fades miserably against either of my Vipers. That Mustang driver doesn't know how to race a stick though. It's impossible to make a 9 anything. The 99-04's ran a 9 flat on a 5 speed with an average driver. The newer ones run high 8's. My 99 convertible automatic runs an 8.1 but that's a modification reason :) I have yet to run my daytona down the track but I don't expect much out of it. But it's got my mustang in the comfort area.

I pulled a car and a half on a stock gt stang at 70-100 in my stock 06 rt charger. At 110 it was all mine. That was on a flat stretch of interstate. He needs to lose that gay ass spoiler on the rear too! Looks retarded.

That charger weighs 500 more lbs than the mustang and has shitty Auto transmission with way tall gearing. Tall gearing kills your performance in a drag race. Especially an Auto with tall gearing that has a low RPM stall.

look at 0:42 This run was 1/8 mile not a 1/4 mile the top speed was only 76 mph. ( In a 1/4 mile the charger would have pulled the mustang and crossed the line at about 98mph and low 14's. At best the mustang cross at mid 15's.
Cont.. Chargers have a 2.82 gear ratio with an open differential compaired to a gt's 3.55 and limited slip diff. This gives mustangs (even automatic ones) a huge advantage off the line. GT's can distribute power equally to both tires cause of it's LSD, where a charger's open diff doesn't distribute power equally to both wheels making lauches much harder. Swap out the rear ends of a challanger srt8 and you got a drag car.
Charger weights 4200lbs. Gt 3550. Charger daytona rwhp 285-290, Gt around 260. Not enough to make up the weight difference. Also, Cold air intakes and exhaust adds about 10-12 hp. not as much as some of you think. Get a diablosport predator programmer and the charger is a totally different car, almost a half second in the quarter mile.
It goes down to this. The charger is heavier by 400ibs, but has 50 more hp(rt daytona) and so they both have close weight/hp ratio. Also depends on gears. Both are great cars, i just like dodge more cause they got nicer cars like viper challenger and charger. Stang red lighted too...

it is definitely not a manual. a manual car would have a clutch. just because it has the autostick doesn't make it a manual. if u think that autostick makes the charger a manual then does that mean my dad's minivan is a manual because he could shift it from 1st, to 2nd, to Drive?

The mustang would win all around anyway. I got a 2008 Mustang GT and it runs Low to mid 8's in the 1/8. I ran against a charger R/T with a tuned intake and exhaust and still beat him.
i had the slp loudmouths on my 07 gt without a tune and bone stock. They slowed me down real bad off the line because the computer wasnt adapted to that less of back pressure. Sound great but you will feel a decrease in throttle response for sure. So, even with the loudmouths, im glad the gt beat that charger. the srt8 is much quicker though
@Camaromandave98 They are pretty slow at acceleration, but once it hits 70 or so it gains speed pretty fast and some how can hit over 120 pretty quickly, I'm a mustang fan though. Mustangs all the way.
Was the mustang m/t or a/t? cause if it was manual thats why he won, regular rt's take out gt's let alone daytonas when they are auto tranny. But when the stangs are m/t they cant touch them

Don't dis a person you don't know, The Charger Driver is a very good driver and a nice guy. you do not know what the conditions were like or how good the GT Driver is. My 2005 GT would put your SRT8 to shame good driver or not. I run consiatant 12.4 in the 1/4 stock Motor/Tranny and NA just with bolt-ons
Given the weight, the Mustang is more than a 1000 lbs. lighter so the green (Power to Weight Ratio)goes the the mustang, however, alot has to do with driver. Very good point, But the 2009 SRT8 Challenger is built on the same body as the charger and weights the same, it is quoted as running 13.3 stock. not very good for 425hp coupe. Dodge has got to go on a diet.
Charger driver needs to learn how to use the autostick tranny ...the automatic transmission never leaves second gear to try and keep the tires from spinning or from causing the ESP to kick in and is not meant for drag or street racing My srt8 has about a second difference in 0-60 when I use Autostick and when I dont use autostick
Well, if the charger had been a stick, it would have been a lot closer. Automatic tranny can't match up with manual at all. I have a Jeep Cherokee (that's right, a JEEP CHEROKEE) with a 5 speed manual that'll do 0-60 in about 8 seconds (not fast). Like I said, its not fast, but its a hell of a lot faster than the same car with an auto tranny, which does 0-60 in about 9.5-10 seconds. That's a big jump.
In heavy vehicles I think the difference is more severe. My altima 3.5 with only a filter swap and catback (with a 5spd auto tranny)and even with full PSI in the tires and a full tank I ran 9.41 @ 77mph.

Well..I own a Mustang GTCS and I love the car and it's 300hp. I must say that I like the RT even though it is heavy and outclassed by the Mustang. All of the paint and decals in the world could not make it any faster but it is nice to see the "Big 3" get the muscle back again regardless of one time drag races. As we all know much of the outcome depends on the driver not the car. It's all good as far as I can see.

and to go twice as far i dount think it can do it in only 3.4sec faster mabey about 4.5secends faster and if the gt beat it in the 1/8mile it will probly be damn close in the 1/4 mile and for the same price you by a srt8 you can buy a 2008 shelby mustang wich is a stock mustang gt with stage 3 super charger air intake exsaust and hurst short throw shifter with the 4.6litter v8 and it is cheaper than the srt 8
That's because that's not a SRT 8 Charger. And if you are talking about the Shelby GT 500 it is not cheaper than the SRT 8, it is actually $6000 higher. And for $6000 you could easily make a SRT 8 outrun the Shelby GT 500. If you weren't talking about the Shelby then forgive me, I am wrong.

It goes down to this. The charger is heavier by 400ibs, but has 50 more hp(rt daytona) and so they both have close weight/hp ratio. Also depends on gears. Both are great cars, i just like dodge more cause they got nicer cars like viper challenger and charger. Stang red lighted too...

it is definitely not a manual. a manual car would have a clutch. just because it has the autostick doesn't make it a manual. if u think that autostick makes the charger a manual then does that mean my dad's minivan is a manual because he could shift it from 1st, to 2nd, to Drive?

The mustang would win all around anyway. I got a 2008 Mustang GT and it runs Low to mid 8's in the 1/8. I ran against a charger R/T with a tuned intake and exhaust and still beat him.

i had the slp loudmouths on my 07 gt without a tune and bone stock. They slowed me down real bad off the line because the computer wasnt adapted to that less of back pressure. Sound great but you will feel a decrease in throttle response for sure. So, even with the loudmouths, im glad the gt beat that charger. the srt8 is much quicker though

No it wouldn't. Mustangs run about 13.5 1/4. R/T Chargers run low 14s. A Mustang GT is a match for an SRT8 Charger.

@Camaromandave98 They are pretty slow at acceleration, but once it hits 70 or so it gains speed pretty fast and some how can hit over 120 pretty quickly, I'm a mustang fan though. Mustangs all the way.

lol Roush has this new package for the new mustangs, you can order it and put it on your mustang yourself or you can have it on your a new mustang when it comes out of the factory with 700hp. so it is stock because its a factory option, its kinda like the r/t and upgrading to the srt8.. only its a bigger upgrade..

It says it's an R/T, not an SRT8. SRT8 is a different motor isn't it? Pretty sure its R/T is 5.7 and SRT8 is 6.1. I could be wrong though.

Don't dis a person you don't know, The Charger Driver is a very good driver and a nice guy. you do not know what the conditions were like or how good the GT Driver is. My 2005 GT would put your SRT8 to shame good driver or not. I run consiatant 12.4 in the 1/4 stock Motor/Tranny and NA just with bolt-ons

Given the weight, the Mustang is more than a 1000 lbs. lighter so the green (Power to Weight Ratio)goes the the mustang, however, alot has to do with driver. I have seen many late model Mustangs loose this race. I have an SRT different car different motor and dont really give a rats ass about drag racing. Meet me on the Road Race track with a Stock R/T and I will hand you your ass on silver platter

Hmmm.. My Magnum SRT8 is 4315lbs as well as charger SRT8 4315lbs. So Im not sure where you are getting your info. That is not 1000lbs but 792lbs. Who cares if its A manual. with the right electronics an Auto will always shift faster than a manual. My point was you guys are comparing a two door coupe to a 4 door sedan that does weight a great deal more. had the guy in the R/T learned how to drive with autostick it would not have mattered. due to power to weight ratio

Very good point, But the 2009 SRT8 Challenger is built on the same body as the charger and weights the same, it is quoted as running 13.3 stock. not very good for 425hp coupe. Dodge has got to go on a diet.

Charger driver needs to learn how to use the autostick tranny ...the automatic transmission never leaves second gear to try and keep the tires from spinning or from causing the ESP to kick in and is not meant for drag or street racing My srt8 has about a second difference in 0-60 when I use Autostick and when I dont use autostick

Well, if the charger had been a stick, it would have been a lot closer. Automatic tranny can't match up with manual at all. I have a Jeep Cherokee (that's right, a JEEP CHEROKEE) with a 5 speed manual that'll do 0-60 in about 8 seconds (not fast). Like I said, its not fast, but its a hell of a lot faster than the same car with an auto tranny, which does 0-60 in about 9.5-10 seconds. That's a big jump.

In heavy vehicles I think the difference is more severe. My altima 3.5 with only a filter swap and catback (with a 5spd auto tranny)and even with full PSI in the tires and a full tank I ran 9.41 @ 77mph.

Well..I own a Mustang GTCS and I love the car and it's 300hp. I must say that I like the RT even though it is heavy and outclassed by the Mustang. All of the paint and decals in the world could not make it any faster but it is nice to see the "Big 3" get the muscle back again regardless of one time drag races. As we all know much of the outcome depends on the driver not the car. It's all good as far as I can see.

Ya, that's why stock to stock a SRT 8 can run a 13 flat and the GT only runs maybe a 13.6. Plus almost 500 lbs of weight difference.

and to go twice as far i dount think it can do it in only 3.4sec faster mabey about 4.5secends faster and if the gt beat it in the 1/8mile it will probly be damn close in the 1/4 mile and for the same price you by a srt8 you can buy a 2008 shelby mustang wich is a stock mustang gt with stage 3 super charger air intake exsaust and hurst short throw shifter with the 4.6litter v8 and it is cheaper than the srt 8

That's because that's not a SRT 8 Charger. And if you are talking about the Shelby GT 500 it is not cheaper than the SRT 8, it is actually $6000 higher. And for $6000 you could easily make a SRT 8 outrun the Shelby GT 500. If you weren't talking about the Shelby then forgive me, I am wrong.

The SRT8 is an overrated piece of garbage not to mention isn't reliable for s*** which is why I dumped it. Can you say, a 45,000 vehicle blowing blue smoke a few thousand miles, Chrysler says its normal?
I've seen the new GT go neck and neck with overrated, hyped SRT8's.
P.S. the new HEMI is a marketing gimmick.
