Yes its a nice starter meditation. And it builds skills for deeper meditation. Remember folks its not just 1 way of meditating . It probably is as many meditation types as there is channels on the telly. One of the most important skills you can get for meditating is stillness of mind. Wich is not thinking of anything, dismissing stray thought that may appear. You dont have to meditate to practice it. just try and see how long you can stop the thinking box from thinking. Focusing on sences helps

This is excellent advice! There was a time when I got hung up in Buddhist books. Trying to learn everything I could. At that time, I failed to notice that the absolute 1 and only thing every book had in common was contained invariably in the first chapters; "Just sit and feel the breath."
