The Capacitor can actually provide us with isolation so if we cascade amplifier stages the dc bias from 1 amplifier stage will not effect( or in some cases place a DC load on another amplifier stage causing unstable operation of the second amplifier stage.Isolation is a key word here when it comes to the proper DC Bias conditions of a Common Emitter Amplifier
There can also be DC from a previous amplifier stage passing through the volume control so it's best practice it make sure DC is not coupled to the base.
