In PowerPoint 2007 you can Renaming Objects from the Selection pane.
To show the Selection pane, click on the Home tab in the ribbon, then click on Arrange and then 'Selection Pane...' at the bottom. The Selection pane will open on the right.
To rename an object, first select the object and then double click on the object name in the Selection pane and you will be able to type the new object name.

@swisscheese521 In the Home Ribbon you should see command icons organized into groups.
Groups are Clipboard, Slides, Font, Paragraph, Drawing and Editing.
Arrange is in the middle of Drawing group, above the word Drawing.
