I loved the story. And I loved how this game wasn't like every stupid anime RPG out there. IT WAS WILDLY DIFFERENT!!! Well, ok maybe not "wildly". But I haven't played any other game that feels like Shenmue. And I keep wondering what will happen in the third game.
The DC kicked major butt, I preferred their games more at the time than either the PS2 or XBOX or GC, (Minus the GC's official brand mega busters and XBOX's Halo.) I could live with out the DVD player. When I bought the XBOX for both Shenmue 2 and Halo, I did not even bother getting the remote to play DVDs. If I want to watch movies I will just use my VCR! Anyway, only real complaint of the DC was it's controller. Only one thumbstick. Other than that I love it all! And the VMU! Need I say more?
I've never played this game but it looks pretty bad ass. I cant believe that SEGA is gone. look how good this game looked. Sony just fights dirty I guess.
yeah even today i feel the graphics in guilin are great and really capture the feeling of nature, i don't think any game since this has made me care about the plot and characters as much as this game did.
Shenmue II is an amazing game. The texture detail is simply stunning, a huge leap on the previous Shenmue, and even giving the XBox a run for its money. Games like this and Skies of Arcadia showed the Dreamcast to be better at textures than the PS2 (which has become synonymous with bland blurry textures).
Sadly, just as the Dreamcast's technical abilities were finally being utilised, Sega pulled out of hardware, before we would ever get to see third generation Dreamcast titles.
@FOZproductionz you mean xbox? It never came out on ps2. You're right though the subtitled DC version was far superior to the shitty dubbing on the xbox version, though i own both.
unfortunatley xbox is the only way to play shenmue 2 without getting the European version of the game here in the USA , but i was talking about how ps2 killed Dreamcast it's really too bad
Definitely, Shenmue's dub was lacking. But no matter how good a dub is: as a principle, the original is superior for the simple fact that is IS the original.
if there was a way that all shenmue fans around the world could donate for a shenmue 3, and make it happen along with some company, that would be great
Actually, i guess if everyone who will buy Shenmue2 would pay say 20 EUR in advance, one could hire Yu and developers without production company overhead... If the requiered sum of money doesn't collect or Yu refuses, one could simply pay back people what they have payed in.
Guys, there will be NO SHENMUE 3. Here is a quote from Adam Doree (The one that gave us all hope of shenmue 3)
"As for Shenmue, I would have to say at this stage, it is worth forgetting about. If all the fans get any rich relatives together and channel it though Dojo perhaps we could buy rights, hire Suzuki (he'd likely say yes) and independently make the game under license from Sega at no risk to them. That is the only way it will get made at this stage I think. "
At 3:34, that random writing on the wall says "Ice Cream" in katakana. Not sure what the kanji at teh end is (I'm still learning) but probably 'store'. Just thought it was a funny thing to have written in an otherwise featureless area :)
This game F'N ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the dramatic music. Sheesh Yu, get off your lazy ass and make the 3rd installment!! It's been almost 6 years!
wow where did those white buildings and high rises come from? that would be cool and actually resemble real HK. But the floor was kinda screwed. Do you actually have this beta disc?
Wow.... Everyone knows that in the end was just areas that they used to test the games. Games always have places like that. They could atleast shown the places that were hackable but that wasn't textured. The possible Shenmue III leftovers ya know. (chech Shenmue Dojo if you don't know what I mean)
Still, I enjoyed watching since this is the best game ever created
That footage at the end with Ryo walking around the empty low res texture area is just a hack of Shenmue II. People found they could access areas on the disc you were never meant to see, lots of games have areas like this that were either for testing purposes during the making of the game or are actually areas designed to be seen only in the distance.
Thanx for my shitty grammar (english is not my first language), but I still think ShenMue was a kind of GTA (not about the story, about the gameplay). (:
Sorry if I'm late by 4 months, but you're still wrong. It's not a matter of opinion here, pal. Don't ever compare a game like Shenmue to GTA. They're apples and oranges.
In my opinion, GTA and Shenmue are "simulator of real life" like "American Water Spaniel" and "Chien d'Artois" are dogs. Similar in the content, different in the form.
I excluded voluntarily "The Sims" series of this reasoning, because they are pointless video-games. ^^
Not sure if I'd call that footage "beta". It's a ton of promotional material and then some guy who's managed to hack his way outside the playing area. Either that or Shenmue II was supposed to be a weird take on 28 Days Later with the whole city deserted.
Well, almost all promotional materal for video games are beta footage. It really depends on how you look at it. You can't be sure weather it's hacked or not. Just saying.

Only if DC had DVD support, then it would of had a fighting chance. I loved DC's library better.
