The song isn't meant to be entirely sad. You need to listen to the song more closely. The best way I can describe the song is by calling it a symphony of life. When I hear it I think about the beauty that can come from tragedy. :')
@awHakunaMatata T-T That poem thing is mine. I guess I'm flattered that 92dnb quoted it. But I'd be more flattered if he/she gave me credit >.> Even if you don't believe it's mine, you can go to fon-master's DeviantART and you'll find it there. -shameless self promotion-
Maybe one day we will see the cherry blossoms, Together again, like when we were younger. To run and play in the gardens again, like when we were younger. But on the day we meet again... will you have moved on? But perhaps it could never happen again. We were never meant to meet again. No matter what speed I live, I an unable to see you again. No matter what lengths I go to, I am unable to hear you again.
Do you know? the speed at which cherry blossoms fall... 5 centimeters per second. At what speed must I live... to be able to see you again? To what lengths must I go... To be able to hear you again? After years of searching... will I be able to find you again? Perhaps the speed at which I have lived... has created a gap between us far too large. But will that keep me from searching?
If there wasn't the Kara no Kyoukai movies, this would be the best existing anime movie ever. Sensational, even beating Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Palace or Akira.
And the music fits it perfectly, the mood never leaves you, even if you don't watch the movie or watched it years ago. This chord is one of the symphonies of life.
Grazie Mr. Shikai for the movie (and also for Voices of a Distant Star) and Mr. Tenmon for the soundtrack!

I'm listening to this soundtrack while reading the manga.
These songs all sound so sad, but have an undertone of hope also.

And after years of searching,
I have never been able to find you again.
Regardless of what happens again,
or what may not happen again,
the cherry blossoms will keep falling.
Falling at 5 centimeters per second

@gshonkor Voices of a distant star is very saddening since you practically know how it's going to turn out, it was way too short.
