Allowing the feet to come off is akin to college basketball allowing the dunk...a rule can revolutionize the game. In the case of tennis, a series of changes along with bigger racquet heads, polyester strings, etc...it allowed the modern spin and power game.
I have personally played with a wooden racquet, and the sweet spot is indeed difficult to grasp in the beginning of any match; however, as the match progresses, the sweet spot follows the ball, provided that sufficient attention is paid.
