you see those signatures? those are from his daughters! amanda and angelina! he even wrote a song for angelina! SO SWEET : )))) and this comes from a guy hehehehe
i don't know, but i think this tune needs time to learn. seriously, 3 years ago when i want to learn this, this hard as hell, but now, i finally got down the harmonic part (5 years after playing)
all tommy song needs time. and practice a lot. thats why he's so mastered at acoustic. 40 years of playing this style, this man amazing :D
One of his (many) best songs<3 God knitted in special extra-terrestrial musical fiber into his being. Thank you God~ and thank you Tommy for making the absolute best use of your beautiful gift~*
Fuck all those politicians and fuck all those colour blind demons and fuck all those endless control freaks that say do this and do that, this is the way the true way...People like Tommy Emmanuel, the writers, the painters, the dreamers in general are the REAL educators not these pricks running the show...Im sorry about the language people but those people make me very angry the older I get...G...
I'm amazed at his ability to independently keep track of a beat that has nothing to do with where the beat actually is in the song.. only at 9.00 min does he tap the beat the way I feel it.. watching his knees.. Maybe he wants to built in an extra difficulty for lesser guitarists to learn the track? lol.. either way.. great tune! :-)
@TICETOCAR try it again, close your eyes a tab you finger along and then open your eyes, i bet it will be on time too. Listen to how its counted in at the start, its just 16th notes on an up beat. try counting 1,2,3,4 between the foot taps and you've got it.
This is random, but if Tommy was ever in an accident, and his hand was damaged, his ability to play the guitar the way he can, would be over in an instant.
@CPRArtists Yeah, from an issue from quite a while back now with a tab for Antonella's birthday and also another video lesson by Tommy based on harmonics.
tommy's playing is profoundly inspirational.....a mix of genetic (or other) talent and workin your ASS off practicing....constantly amazing...what a treat to get insight into his style...I'd rather watch this than take lessons from 99% of the guitar "teachers" out there...I feel guilty for not paying for this....but thanx for posting!!!
Muito melhor do que Andy Mckee.. Mais suave e agradavel.. mais natural e espontaneo. Better than Andy mckee , more soft and nicer.. natural and free.. Mckee is mecanical
I don't even play guitar(I wish I did) and I still find watching this absolutely mesmerizing. I don't understand any of the technical bits, all I understand is an beautiful piece of music.
Well, for one, it's an open tuning which to some extent makes it's easier to follow and perhaps easier to cover mistakes. But Tommy's style is so exquisite, ANY tuning or song is hard at first.
But with his picking technique he is able to control it pretty well. The playability is even better than of my Ibanez Prestige, which is an electric guitar. You would be shocked if you play his original guitar one day, cause you never saw such a low action before :)
Right, you cant hear the buzz, because of the pickup, his technique, and the loudness of the Amp. and In a workshop someone asked Tommy about his action and Tommy plugged the guitar out of the Amp and it sounded horrible. He said, that he would never play that guitar unplugged. Any questions? Feel free to ask
thats what i meant, when the guitar is unplugged it would probably sound horrible;] But still Maton is guitar specially for stage performance ;] great guitar btw. but i better like unplugged guitar sound when i'm playing ;]
If you appreciate his music you definitely have to see him live. Aside from being a great musician, he's very personable and has a great sense of humor. My wife and I had the luxury of meeting him and his fiance Liz after his performance. What can I say? He's a legend in our time.
"I'm going to play the song as slow as I can..." THAT'S as slow as he can go! Although I'm sure he can play slower I wish he would actually play SLOWER by us regular people standards.
It seems he's tapping his foot on the off-beats (one AND two AND three AND ...). In the "lesson" about the verse he taps his foot dead on the beat and it's a lot easier to follow...
Gah, I keep trying to keep the beat to the song, but his leg keep throwing me off. It kinda feels like he's about half a beat off in the beginning, but I guess that's just the song.
you can keep the beat however you want really. but it'll be more difficult when there a chord and your own beat kinda messes up. something you have to practice.
One-and-two-and-three-and-four-and are 8th notes. The reason his foot seems out of time at points is because he swings the timing occasionally and plays chords on the 8th beat of the bar etc. His foot is in time. I'm just finding the timing of the harmonic passage at the end of the bridge tricky. I will get it in time :)
The bpm on this tune is 85. He is subdividing that beat by 4.... meaning he is playing 16th notes. I do trancriptions for a living and have done this one.
Tommy Emmanuel is the best guitarist ever (to my opinion), but I really don't like this song. It's definately not my favorite from Emmanuel. Anyway, it's personal...
i agree that he's the best player in the world. he's the best improviser in the fucking world in my opinion, all other guitarist often play a verison of the same riff over and over. hes great. but i do love this song =)
I've send you a video responds as a "thank you" for posting this video. It realy helped me getting foreward on this one and watched it many -many- times. So Thank you!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I agree. In my opinion the way TE puts the accents (and the foot tapping) in this song is completely pointless. No-one listening to this tune will tap on it the way he things you should tap/count. It is far more natural to put the beat of each bar in synch with the chords and bass notes. Nevertheless, regardless of where you place the accents this is a delightlful piece of guitar music.
i have seen tommy explain that in his head he has a drum kit going whilst he plays, so i guess the way he times this must be the way his mind was going at the time *shrugs* he wrote it lol
:P, i'm sure tommy himself wouldn't mind, as its helping other guitarists improve, and he once told me, that's what he strives for, to let others learn from him.

shredding scales at 390 BPMs means nothing to one who has mastered rhythm, and the chords.
