  • WHY doon't we all find out what julie's personal website is and write to her? she must have a site for alla her adoring fans - all fifty ofus! seriously, though, contact her and get her to come on t.v. sometime, but not on that jonathan ross type of show. PLEASE.

  • I had this song played at my father in law's funeral (Beatle version) as it summed up his life an attitude towards us. I want it played at mine. Julie's version is great and Don't Cry For Me Argentina the best version, far superior to Madonna's. Thanks Julie.

  • What a Song!

  • Always makes me want to cry

  • Superb.

  • I had the great experience of seeing her on stage live in London in Guys and Dolls - happy memories.

  • she is so cool .. my idol

  • miss covington. i am 50 now & still i have never heard you live. what happend? ps beautiful voice.

  • Brilliant.

  • I've never been a huge fan of performers covering so-called classic numbers, but Covington absolutely nails this song! Such clarity and seemingly effortless emotion.I didn't realise she was still performing but am so glad she is.Hopefully I'll be able to find out if she has any concerts coming up.Want to be there.STUNNING!

  • Crystal clear voice! it does'nt get any better!!

  • How i wish to meet Mrs. Covington! gto me, one of the best singers ever!

  • Wow! Wow! Wow! Beautiful!

  • This is one of the best versions I´ve heard so far. Her cristal clear voice and plaintive delivery are perfect. Thanks for posting!

  • loved you in rock folleys , gald your singing well

  • Brilliant find! I was a big fan of Julie's back in the day - superb voice and one of my all-time favourite songs

  • fantastic

  • What at treat! Thank you for posting this beautiful song sung by one of my all-time favorite singers.

  • check out Sean Connery's version!!!! Yes Sean Connery. Did it with George Martin tribute. It's on YouTube

  • this is really good but i prefer The Beatles one

  • Great rendition of the best song ever written!!!

  • beautiful song.

    thank you

  • Fantastic I Love Julie, give us a tour soon!

  • purity & warmth to julie's voice -very distinct - would love to see her do a small gig live.

  • What a voice. No one can touch your original performance. Madonna, with all her fame and power, could dream. Why hasn't her record company re-released her work. Come back Julie - we need you.

  • Her first two albums were re-released not too long ago.

  • Very moving

  • What a wonderful gift her voice is.

  • So beautiful. How I wish she had recorded this. I love Julie Covington's voice!

  • Truly Beautiful

  • I know Julie is probably best know as the first voice of Evita, but to think she can claim to have been the first Janet Weiss in The Rocky Horror Show. Damn it, Janet...I would have liked to see Julie in the film version over Susan Sarandon.

  • just adore julie covingtin - fab cover!

    coraclewoman

  • Utterly beautiful, artistically refined and above all...AUTHENTIC

Brava Julie..very very special, my dear

I hope you are proud of this lovely natural interpretation.......

  • Es MARAVILLOSA!!!!

  • WHAT A VOICE! Her original Evita recording on the very first double concept album is just fantastic. A vocal performance that gives the enigmatic role of Eva Peron, the street fighting whore persona it so desperately misses from the stage production. Patti Lupone get fucked!!

  • Wonderfulllll! How I miss miss Julie Covington. She is one of the best female singers!

  • fantastic julie

  • What an overlooked talent Julie Covington is. In my view, "Only Women Bleed" is a rarity - a cover that eclipses the original. This one doesnt do that but it still stacks up in its own right. She's bloody fabulous - a real singer.

  • Such a pure voice

  • Julie sings it superbly, shame the musical accompliment is lacking and don't do justice to her voice

  • Agreed. The supporting music is quite poor and jarring at times. Julie Covington's sublime singing rises above it.

  • Utterly ravishing Julie

  • she was good in danger mouse too :)

  • she was good in danger mouse too!!

  • What a wonderful rendition! I also think Julie Covington is perhaps the finest female singer of the 20th century. That includes British and any other nationality. Thanks for the video. It is exquisite.

  • Finest female singer of the 20th century that cover a lot of singers don't you think? I realized you're Julie Covington fan but don't get carried away. Although she is good singer she is not the finest of the 20th century far from it..Her version of "Don't cry for me Argentina" is also good but its not the best version. Try listening to Paloma San Basilio original spanish version "No LLores por Mi Argentina" Best version ever!

  • OK. I cant say who was the greatest singer of the 20th century; but Julie Covington is my favourite.

Thanks for the tip regarding Paloma San Basilio. I had not heard of her before. I listened to her 1984 concert version of No Llores por Mi Argentina. That lady is also a great singer! Her singing of the song is right up there with JC. They both sing it with virtuosity and spine-tingling beauty. I like JCs version best, but Paloma San Basilio is much better than any of the others Ive heard.

  • I'm afraid Don't Cry for Me Argentina is an original song written by Lloyd Webber and Rice for the musical Evita. There is no original Spanish version. Palomo San Basilio is a translation of LW/Rice song. Sorry.

  • Rita Pavonne sings Don't Cry for me Argentina in italian.

  • I love this song. It is like John Lennon put the words and lyrics together for much that I was trying to say at the time. Thanks John. Julie sings it beautifully. I love her original version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina which i bought when first released. Far better than Madonna's lamentable rendition. Thanks Julie.

  • You will never hear a better cover version of this Beatles song.

    I give it five*****

  • Great rendition

  • dear Firestrike3 'An Historical Fact more evidence than for any other historical figure.' I think that is not a proper sentence. Julie's performance here is simple and touching. In an age of a lot of extravagant vocal la-la-la ing it is as refreshing as a mountain stream.

  • Julie is amazing and one of my favourite singers- so unknown and under rated. I once had the pleasure of having dinner with her after a play. Thanks for posting- this is beautiful!

  • Very few people can sing a Lennon song. She is one of the few.

  • Absolutely STUNNING performance of a beautiful song..it made me cry..it was so real and full of feeling. Thank you so much for posting.

  • Just pure magic wish I could find this track and others on a cd but no joy so far !

  • This is absolutely stunning. Just like her performance of EVITA!, Julie gives soul to this piece that strikes right at the heart feeling true empathy for her lyrics.

  • Was this from a Beatles tribute tv show presented by Robin Ray aired in England sometime in the early 80`s? Great version, thanks for uploading.

  • yeh but he was a crap singer - she sings this beautifully and with more feeling than your religous bigotry could ever appreciate. Open your eyes deluded one.

  • i was replying to firestrike3

  • I guess cause your so blind you only thought you heard him sing.! there's nothing wrong with julie covingtons performance of this song her voice is angelic and i'm looking forward to hearing the real ones sing.

  • Yup, me too -not necessarily marry, but certainly "get to know" her.. dark eyes, gorgeous voice, mmmmm..

  • Rock Follies, what a memory, am I right in thinking that was Rula Lenska, and Charlotte Cornwell too ?

looks like Julie has stood the test of time, I wanted to marry Her when I was 16 ;-))

  • Fantastic, Julie touches deep feelings where other singers can never reach.

  • well, it certainly beats Ozzy osbournes version.....Johnny Cash does a great job of this too.....

  • I have the Lennon and the Judy Collins versions of this song, but Julie, by far, sings this song the best. She is one of the very few who can take a song and sing it better than the original artist.

  • i was A BIG ROCK FOLLIES FAN little lady rule ok ok ok ok ok

it was there only single in 1977

    spot on

  • Julie was 60 on 11 Sept 2007

  • When she was in Rock Follies I fell in love with her...however I now realise I really only wanted to be her! What a gay icon she was. Thankyou for posting this.

  • Wonderful!!!. Never heard this song sung by anyone, but the original Beatles version. Julie Covington has done a superb job of covering it, & in my opinion topping John Lennon.

  • beautiful.. we need MORE Julie Covington

  • I love her Evita album, she's does a wonderful job interpreting the songs.

  • Gosh, what a suprise to see this again, Lennon & McCartney tribute wasn't it? Julie's voice is fantastic, thanks for posting this

  • What a beautiful, real, version of the song; brought tears to my eyes. I am a fan of Julie Covington from the Rock Follies. I hear she stopped performing a while ago, what a shame.

  • This is beautiful, romantic, masterful and delivered with an original style and love of music.

  • lovely voice!

  • I second that Yozzerhughes, I am a great JC fan too

    Rob

  • Just gorgeous. Don't think there's any female singer out there who can top Covington's voice. Thanks so much for posting m1ckeyjoe..
