  • The theme tune is now available for download from the usual sources, itunes, etc. Its track 1 on an album entitled Catslick Gallery 2 by David Owen Smith and Paul Aitken.

  • Tony Hart was such a class act. Miles apart from the rubbish kids presenters of today.

  • This tune is ace and it is so memorable, in billions of ways and it is a childhood memory of mine.

  • Taa very much for the upload my friend...just needed to hear this right now....Great stuff.....

  • Tony was a great artist and also the ric flair of the art world . He always had the birds on his show!

  • Tony,I'm sure many children were touched by you.....

Well thats the impression i got from them cravats and camp voice

  • I wrote here a couple of months ago....Tony was a legend and an inspiration to many. He was one of only afew presenters who got thru to us how brilliant art was during the 80's. Not only did he love art he loved the millions of his fans learning bout art aswell. He wasn't arrogant or ignorant....not like many today!! We truly were blessed with a wonderful person.... How lucky were we? RIP Tony. Gone but never forgotten!!!!!!!!

  • This is epic! Simple as that! ^^ I had the tune in my head and came to find it here! Timeless!

  • @ultraseb Yes mate! That iz exactly what i have just done also! Hah ha!!

  • This is epic! Simple as that! ^^

  • Sad as this may sound, it brought a tear to my eye when heard the theme, took me right back, home from school about to get dinner, thanks for the memories Tony.

  • @RacManRhythm I know just what you mean....crazy aint it.....i personally find there was and is somthing magical about the 80's that i shall never get my head round....music being the main source.....Nostalgia bigstyle....

  • One Question......Was Tony Hart given any distinction b4 his death with OBE etc. cause I dont know and I belive if he wasn't then he should....can anyone help me here? What a legend!!!!

  • Ah!

So heart-warming to see this again and to read the comments from people who feel just the same as me. It's like family!

This tune (and that man) was such a big part of my childhood. I was always into art, and now I'm a graphic designer. Maybe this show is partly to thank?

Tony Hart had such dignity and respect for his audience. While the Timmy Mallets were running around with big hammers and wacky shirts, Tony Hart won us over simply by being a completely charming person.

    R.I.P. Tony.

  • Stonking theme tune. All of a sudden it feels like 1990 and I'm 13 years old. The show wasn't the same without Mr Bennett. Nice to see a few episodes appearing on YouTube as well.

  • I loved this show, Tony Hart R.I.P.

  • I remember this from when I was a kid!

  • Just to clarify, I meant November1993 in my last post

  • was that starglow you used at the start of your video?

  • What an intro! Tony the great. Such an inspiration. Do you by any chance have the full program or know where it may be? I've just learned to play the theme tune on the piano/keyboard.

  • You can try a torrent search for full episodes but I haven't seen any at all. If I come across some, i'll put them up.

  • Man this brings a tear.....the memories, the inspiration and the music - so ahead of it's time.

  • Was so sad to hear he'd passed away - I remember how devestated I was in November when the last ever episode of HartBeat aired - could notbelieve that I would be seeing and hearing the brilliant opening titles/end credits and funky theme tune for the last time - thank heavens someone posted them on YouTube.

As a kid growing up in the 80s/early 90s, Hart Beat was simply one of the most exciting things ever when you got in from school.

RIP Tony - you were, and remain a legend.

  • Used to run home from school for this, and switch off the telly straight afterwards, the long summer evenings suddenly filled with exciting creative potential. What a lovely man to make these for all of us, and the good of our young imaginations - he clearly just adored doing it, and that's what shone through more than anything. I'm choked at his passing, but it's definitely a case of gone and never ever forgotten. RIP Sir Hart, King Of Telly Art!

  • A truly inspirational man. RIP Tony

  • R.I.P Tony Hart you will be sadly missed, he was an inspirational guy to a generation of children, take hart and harbeat were both wonderful and educational programmes.

  • R.I.P

  • RIP i loves this guy , what a great programme

  • Heck I didn't even know that Tony Hart had died until everyone started posting RIP comments. He was a truly great man. He will be sorely missed.

  • God bless him. Inspired me and Im sure many others to make a career out of art! RIP the legend!

  • Tony Hart was so inspirational & encouraging to creative kids... RIP Tony Hart

  • RIP Tony Hart!!!

  • very gifted individual god bless tony hart

  • I love how he interrupts Margot when she's trying to tell him what she is doing.

  • Cool intro

  • Tony ain't gay! He was married for years. has grandkids and everything.

  • A sartorial meister of the highest order and a man whose talents and abilities as a children's television presenter were so great that some of his successors simply hanged themselves rather than emulate his little giggle and his stylish slacks. (Hmmmmm... can we check the accuracy of this statement?) Is that too soon? In poor taste? Or simply a banquet of bollocks? You decide. Text your barely legible and grammatically dubious ripostes to the following number:

    Arbroath 36-0 Bon Accord.

  • @rescritt awwwww
