  • go leafs go!

  • Thanks dude, learning alot!

  • Hey Bobby, I have a song on C open tuning but I raised the 5th string to A#. and did not raise my 2nd string to C. so my C is in the second fret in the 5th string. It works great for my song, but its hard to figure out the solo for it, could it be because my 5th string is raised, and my second is not? what do you think?.

    Thanxs

  • This is NOT Open C tuning...!!

You would call this C6 tuning, because the OPEN STRINGS MAKE A C6 CHORD.

This is the tuning Jimmy Page uses for Bron-y-aur as well. Nice job on "Friends" by the way!

  • Thanks my man

  • Thanks this always alluded me

  • well I walked away with something , John Butler Trio , the ocean (i believe) he had his 11 string tuned to this and we all know Strapping Young Lad which is a metal band loves this tuning.

  • Hey freind, got a video on how to play notes in open C? Example A7th.

  • Do you by any chance have a Twitter acount?

  • I enjoyed this video. It told me what i needed.

  • @nashsteve26 so you've watched all 360 of my guitar and lesson videos?

  • @BobbyCrispy naa im just one of them people who aint got nothing else to do on youtube . . . i apologize lol

  • @BobbyCrispy I'd say if he watched them all he must of liked them.

  • @BobbyCrispy obviously nashsteve26's comment hurt you enough.... since you've only put out 6 videos in the last year....

  • @nashsteve26 are you f****n stupid he is one of the best teachers on youtube!

  • @nashsteve26 umad?

  • your video sucks!!!!!!!!

  • Very helpful man!

  • hey Bobby, I was just at your video site. you have some great originals there, and I am sure they are in your you tube account too, because they were you tube videos. But I didn't see friends there, although you have a great lesson on that's the way. If I wasn't a poor man on SSI I would send you a few $ & when I get on feet a bit better I am sure I will. it just seems things happen one right after another.first the car then the van, and the roof. it's hard on this end. thanks 4 all your lessons

  • @Lombz ....yeah i'm just trying to explain it in a way that EVERYONE undstands

  • @Lombz anger managment. think about getting some help>

  • @Lombz

Get used to it, mister high and mighty. There are a lot of musicians that don't know notes. Not that I'm saying that this guy doesn't, but you don't have to be a jackass because this guy is trying to explain it universally.

  • @Lombz they arent EADGBE if you tuned it to C... jackass.... the number of the strings dont change, EVER.

  • @Lombz lol wut. open c is cgcgce. lrn2guitar

  • how do you tune a guitar to EADGCE? i wanna play awake by secondhand serenade but need to tune b to c??? can some1 help me out here?

  • @TECHNOpanda76sssssss

get a piano and play a fucking c. not difficult.

  • thanks very much for the lesson. I love open tunings...D, G, Eminor and a few of my own. I haven't gotten to C until now, and I thought the your video was very instructive.

  • wow this is awesome. I just started playing. I used to sing about 5 yrs ago with my ex. After he died I didnt sing for years. We would go out and it would be just us. He was originally a drummer but he tought the guitar player in his other band how to play. This is the first song he tought me but I think he did it in drop d. I love the sound of the picking..I have my own little picking style I think Im a little to into it.. thanks 4 posting.

  • i use C G C G C C.

and sometimes open C...or my version of it.

    C G C G C E.

great for hard rock or metal play. ive got some cool chord voicings out of both.

  • wow... i used to tune to C G D# A# F C when i wanted C tuning

  • So your tuning the B string UP? -.^

  • diffrence between c standard and open c ?

  • Strapping Young Lad is tuned to open C. cgcgce

  • This guy didn't use true Open C tuning. He used a different version popularized by Led Zeppelin's song 'Friends'. He actually plays the bass chord to that song when he is finished tuning which is o3oooo. So by the looks of that, I am assuming he learned open tuning through Friends and thinks it is 'Open C' but it isn't.

  • is true ;)

  • God damnit I don't want lessons just f*cking let us hear them in 10 seconds that's it. I have a life people.

  • No you don't, shut up.

  • Whatever bitch I got my guitar tuned 2 months ago in less than 30 seconds. You're the one with no life responding to a comment from 2 months ago anyway.

  • _______________?________________

  • Need to change the A string to a G for it to be open C, don't make a tutorial if you dont know that man.

  • Just what I was thinking man, ha.

  • People are crazy, to make a tutorial you should have mastered the subject beforehand.

  • this the tuning of kyus right

    plzz help me !

  • Kyuss? As in the stoner rock band?

They play in C standard, not open C.

    C standard is C,F,A#,D#,G,C.

  • CACGCE (Open C 6th) - used by Jimmy Page in Led Zeppelin songs "Friends" (Led Zeppelin III)

  • is open c used in "burden in my hand" by soundgarden?

  • Yep

  • Pretty sure Burden In My Hand is the same as Head Down off Superunknown album..

Which is CGCGGE. Don't quote me on that.

  • if he is only changing the 6th 4th and 2nd strings hes still left with the 5th string being A. so how could this be CGCGCE

  • Good point, with the A remaining an A, it'd be more like a C6th tuning for sure!!

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice demonstration, gonna try for sure. =)

  • Great tutorial. Thanks. Now im off to buy new strings and try again!

  • I thought open C went CGCGCE the same notes used in the C chord.

  • Yes, he's misnaming this tuning. This tuning is C6 (CACGCE), the same used for Bron-Y-Aur.

I like the arpeggio demonstration here.

However you need more of a swing feel on the Friends intro-listen to the recording, the timing is tighter. Good demo though thanks for posting.

  • @76sitar It does, I think this guy is using the Jimmy Page one, seeing as he plays friends. I think here he is using CACGCE

  • @76sitar yeah theres no a in c...

  • Is this the tuning for Bon Iver's "Skinny Love"?

  • hahahahha

  • canada...

  • ..Is fucking amazing

  • "Its better to tune on distortion"

    are you an idiot

  • tbh, if u do it right, it actually helps. when playing 2 of the same notes (example: high E and low E), if the the pitch is right on both strings, there wont be as much fucked up distortion sound. u have to try it to know what im really talking about

  • Yeah. I use distortion to tune my guitars. A lot easier. Like tuning from Standard to Drop D. So much easier with distortion.

Everyone acts like they know what they're talking about when they really don't. So they criticize. o.O

  • thanks!

  • Its better to tune on distortion .

  • wait, are you saying it is easier to tune with distortion turned on?

if that is what you are saying that is completely not true.

  • i think he means it sounds better with distortion. like heavy metal songs are usually dropped d

  • Devin Townsend uses Open C. I love that man.

  • Comment removed

  • What most people forget is that there are several different variations to the open tunings, so it is not wrong to keep the A string as is.

  • helpful indeed, thanks.

  • you take for ever to tune

  • how come u didnt change the A string and its CGCGCe?

  • I just got a guitar but i can't learn playing it with the dinky little cards it came with.

I need a to watch! This was very helpful

  • impossible to tune the 2nd string for C , cause its B... i dont know how to do it using a tuner

  • How is that impossible. You don't go lower on the 2nd string you go higher.

  • Do you tune the 5th string down to G? Or do you keep it at A?

  • CGCGCe

  • you must change your string gauge for the lower srtings in this tuning, the lower strings a real low, although it is a bright sounding tuning.

  • was that 'friends' by Led Zeppelin I heard? nice.

  • Yes.

  • is this tuning

    C G D G B E

if not, how do i tune to the above??

  • on the 6th string tune down till the 9th fret sounds the same as the a string then tune the A string down n check if the 7 th fret on the 6th string sounds the same as the a (now g string)

now tune down each string and just do wat u do wen tunin normally

  • C A C G D E

  • open c is

    CGCGCE

  • these are good lessons, apart from you talking so fast... sometimes difficult to understand. can you slow down please? thanks

  • i need help, is this C-F-Bb-Eb-G-C? i need to know how to tune it like that.

  • no that is c standard. what he is playing in is C-G-C-G-C-E

  • when i make a guitar video lesson, i do it in a way that everyone will understand clearly....that's why i have the #1 guitar lesson youtube channel in canada....if i "lived it up" in my videos, people wouldn't understand what i'm trying to explain, would they??

  • Please reply to me. I have an Ibanez RG with the tuning thing at the top of the guitar, so it doesnt tune down whne I am using my whamy. Can I tune it Open C with this without screwing on the back of the guitar?

  • well i'm sorry that you suffer from attention deficit disorder, but i'm trying to explain clearly how to do something....what were you expecting in a guitar lesson video?? party tricks??

  • well if you don't appreciate free lessons, which i have spent hundreds of hours working on and have yet to receive one cent for them, then why don't you go pay $35.00 per hour somewhere you prick!!!

  • Is he wearing a Judo robe thing? o.O

  • This nigga pisses me off

  • Is that zeppelin he's playin at 3:58?

  • Yeah that song is Friends by Led Zeppelin.

  • For all the info on open and alternate tunings there is a great resource by Googling for "open and alternate tuning" and clicking the result from "Guitar tunings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". It explains most of the tunings and will clarify all the misunderstandings mentioned in these comments for this video.

  • Can't-nadian

  • ´nice one dude, that is the same of? C#G#C#G#C#F ?

  • nice1 dude....

  • Drop C just means lowering your 6th (lowest) string to C after all strings have been lowered a whole step, i.e., (Low to High): C, G, C, F, A, D. Open C tuning is (Low to High): C, G, C, G, C, E. C6 tuning, as described in this video, is (Low to High): C, A, C, G, C, E. Your 6th string (lowered 2 steps) is 1 octave lower that your 4th string (lowered 1 step) and your 2nd string is tuned up a 1/2 step. Your 5th, 3rd, and 1st strings are standard tuned.

  • how c, g, c, e, g, c???

  • hi there ..!! what the dfrent between open n drop c?? can u tell me??

  • Open C tuning is the C chord when you play all the strings w/o fretting the fingerboard. Drop C is not a C chord. It requires you to fret the fingerboard to make a C chord. It's tuning is also different as mentioned in the previous comments. With Drop C, if you make a "D" chord shape (1st string 2nd fret, 2nd string 3rd fret, 3rd string 2nd fret) it is a C chord. With Open C tuning you don't need to do this to get a C chord, just play all the strings open.

  • This tuning is actually called C6 tuning because your 5th string is still tuned to A, which is the 6th interval in a C major scale. This tuning is used by Jimmy Page for "Bronyaur" and also "Friends" as you demo'd. Thanks, I always enjoy your video lessons.

  • There is no open A in open c tuning

  • That's exactly my point, that's why I stated the tuning in this video is a C6 tuning, not an open C tuning. If it was an open C tuning the A would be a G.

  • is open c the same as drop c?

  • No, open tunings mean that you tune the guitar so that when you play open, it's a chord. Drop C is just ridiculous... Lowness.

  • Out of all the videos none of them worked but this one. great lesson. thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • is canada going to go on strike?? =]

  • When you mean that the 6th string is the same as the 4th - the 6th string should be that high?

  • Your vids are so helpful! Thanks!!!

  • thanks for this.. you explained it very well.

  • Your voice is relaxing :]

  • cool!! you can play heavy riffs with this tuning. i also discovered that you can play a minor chord by placing strings 3 to 6 on the same fret, and moving 1 and 2 about 1 1/2 steps higher

  • dude i swear thats drop c

  • C-Tuning is all strings 2 Steps down right (4-Half tones) ?

  • OPEN c

  • As it applies to heavy metal type music terminology, what you've stated is true. Technically, this [2 Steps down] is not a "C" tuning no more than standard tuning is an "E" tuning. Most rock/metal/etc people use this terminology because nobody would know what you're talking about if you stated that E tuning (standard tuning) is really an E minor 11th chord (Em11), not an E chord. So, in today's terms C-Tuning means what you've stated; that is, to tune your standard (E) tuning down 2 Steps.

  • Thanks man that helped alot.
