This month it is 5 !! years ago that you posted this beautiful piece Per. I discovered it today and I must ( again ) say that your play is wonderful. I realize that I am not the only one who thinks so and I know you have many fans ! I am one of them !
Thank you and have a great Christmas and a happy 2012 ! Greetings from Down Under !
another fantastic piece, andante largo you are great, you are among my three favourite guitarists: russell, williams, and you. Thank you. Can I request a piece?
(barrios' "una limosnita por el amor de dios", beauriful piece).
I keep coming back to this rendition, if you haven't pursued your vision as a musician yet I speak to you from truth that you should now, if not ever before, now is the time
If you have this and others on an album I would love to purchase it, also, what kind of recording device are you using, and, are you using audio software i.e: Logic, Protools, cubase...etc? The recording and mastering sounds very professional. Oh, I see a link to the album now....
No offence as I have never heard this style of music before but are you famous? Because that is the most beautiful genre of music I have ever heard. You are a very talented man
Is this piece recorded on one of your releases? I'd like it, along with others, to serenade me as I slumber each night. Truly magical and expressive playing you have sir.
What a treat, thank you very much, i didn't expect this tune to sound so convincing on the guitar rather than the lute and now you came along and proved me wrong....
Dear John was clearly amused when he heard your question and answered that he would ask Leonardo if his Mona Lisa was not too romantic. Then he left with a big smile on his face.
@AndanteLargo Per Olav, I have loved the music of John Dowland ever since I discovered him at the age of 15. I even once attended a concert where Julian Bream played this piece. Your rendition is exquisite. I will listen to it again and again. Thank you.
@AndanteLargo This is absolutely exquisite. I heard Julian Bream playing this piece in Burlington, Vermont in the '70s. Your rendition is just as lovely. Thank you for playing so beautifully and for sharing this piece with us.
@AndanteLargo Your performance is exquisite, bringing forth all the emotions that Dowland intended. I'm working on this piece now, and use your video as a guide.
@AndanteLargo Beautiful, exquisite performance with deep sensitivity and emotion. I'm working on this piece now, using your performance as a guide. Thank you.
I've been jumping carelessly headlong into anything by Dowland, and can't make up my mind as to what I should try playing first. More difficult than just hitting the notes and getting the technique right was infusing soul into the song--in fact, I feel my playing has been too mechanical so far. Your video, however, is such an enlightening resource for me. Thank you for sharing. I think I'll keep trying until I get the sound right...
Thanks! I am happy if I can inspire you to play this. (I have it on my web shop). It is such a beautiful piece and since it is slow, not too hard to play. But it needs a lot of feelings and insight.
Good luck and keep playing! it's the best next to love.
Thank you so much for making this video, you have inspired my passion for learning to play the guitar. You have recieved yet another faithful subscriber.
This, my good gentleman, is sublime. What an honor to the nostalgia and sorrow of the age of Raleigh, Marlowe, Shakespeare...one of the greatest of all ages.
Thank you for this playing; a heart of rock would be moved by the tenderness and the mastery of execution.
This piece of music is mentioned in Haruki Murakami's Novel 1Q84. I've heard many versions of this song. But you're guitarplay is far the best I've heard. The scene from the novel is so real now, only because of your talent.
@adrh47 No I mean the recording quality. Some sort of hall reverb. Built in pickup or add-in, etc - that sort of thing. This recording sounds very clean
~Favoriiiit~
Unfortunately, this music is obviously far beyond your playing level. Perhaps the pop numbers, so well suited to this 'style' of playing, should constitute your central repertoire.
Hi there. Thank you. I am honored. I always play with F# on 3rd. when I play this music... excetp for this one :-) I learned it when I was a kid and never got around to re-learn it with a F#. So no, here I play with G...
i just ordered your transcription of this gorgeous piece, and i think i'm getting ready to begin studying it. i hope that i can come close to doing it the justice that you do! i plan on watching your video quite a bit as i work on it...i love your performance!
Fantastiskt stycke, imponerande spelat. Mycket känsla. Så glad jag hittat dig på Youtube - finner alltid inspiration och patos efter ha tagit del av dig. Tack!
this is absolutely beautiful! I would love to buy an arrangement, I would love to perform it for my senior recital! I have sent your link to my guitar teacher to ask him to work with me on it. again....gorgeous..
This is unmistakably John Dowland if you have listened to his other well known pieces transcribed for guitar. This one is so beautiful, but not so sad as Melancholy Galliard, to my ear.
Thank you for showing students of the guitar how a really well played Renaissance piece can sound.
Love this piece more than you can imagine! Wonderful interpretation. You can count me as a subscriber!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to post videos like this!

Thank you for this interpretation. The only thing: I find it very strange to see you sitting in a livingroom while the audio sounds church-like. audio and video just don´t fit.
Thank you for your kind advice. I will learn eventually. :-) I'll keep trying as I have done for the last 40 years... sigh. we will never be perfect, will we?
you could come closer to playing perfection if u became as a computer when playing john dowland's songs, replicating the sound/feel of every phrase/almost every note. listen to someone better than you play his music, they'll inspire to u that perfection is attainable.
musica renacentista la mejor pero ke seria muy buieno escucharla en un laud para ke ere ayre se escuchara mejor, pero en este caso es una exelente interpretacion en guitarra
the last reason isnt all of it, but i will say, as a serious student, ive watched almost all of your videos and im still trying to find a single thing i disagree or dislike about an interpretation or arrangement....neeedless to say im still searching...so clean, so perfect, so emotional...thank you...as well, id like to know what mic you use for these recordings
I use a very good mic. It is an AKG C 460 B that I bought when I had money :-) Long itme ago :-) Less can do it but it helps a lot with the recordings
Can i ask what strings you use to get that wonderful tone??

Thank you for this interpretation. The only thing: I find it very strange to see you sitting in a livingroom while the audio sounds church-like. audio and video just don´t fit.

Thanks. The explanation is that I add some reverb to make it sound as it does when I play concerts.

i hum better melodies while i'm gardening. FYI peter rabbit has joined in once, maybe twice. ta ta
CiscoNast 2 years ago
Hi! You don't like the melody? Well, i love it! Dowland was a genious. Ta ta...:-)
AndanteLargo 2 years ago
The pace is too slow which takes away from Dowland's version of the melody. Know that a melody's character is affected by the pace.

:-) Someone better than me? Are you kidding? :-)) Play like a computer? Really?
I am kidding of course.

May I ask what equipmnt you used to record it with, I noticed a tasteful amount of reverb added. Let me know please>
Beautiful piece and great recording

Thanks. I use a good mic. AKG C 460 B and a good camcorder. I add some reverb in the video editing software. (Pinnacle Studio)
Hope this helps.

the last reason isnt all of it, but i will say, as a serious student, ive watched almost all of your videos and im still trying to find a single thing i disagree or dislike about an interpretation or arrangement....neeedless to say im still searching...so clean, so perfect, so emotional...thank you...as well, id like to know what mic you use for these recordings
spooked5656 2 years ago
:-) Thank you. It's nice to hear. I am honored.
I use a very good mic. It is an AKG C 460 B that I bought when I had money :-) Long itme ago :-) Less can do it but it helps a lot with the recordings
